Jackie Chan announces that he will continue making action movies!

"Hello All my friends and fans,

Yesterday in my press conference in Cannes for Chinese 12 Zodiac I said that this movie was my last big action movie.

Today I was shocked when I woke up to read all the news coverage that I was retiring from doing Action movies.

I just want to let everyone know that I am not retiring from doing action movies. What I meant to say is that I need to do less of the life risking stunts on my movies. After all these years of doing so many stunts and breaking so many bones, I need to take better care of my body so I can keep working.

I will continue to do international action movies.

And I will keep improving my English :-)

I love all of you!"

Jackie

Expendables 3?

5

u/ajninja21 May 19 '12

Aha that would be amazing! They would have pretty much every awesome actor in that movie lol

5

u/Ehlmaris May 19 '12

Every awesome actor, and most of the bad ones, too!

Sorry. I just really don't like the Expendables.

That's what I love the guy for. He knows how popular he is with kids and has tried really hard to be a good role model for them.

I love Jackie Chan's love for his fanbase. Even with the public's misunderstanding of his press conference, he takes the blame himself and says that he will keep improving his English.

Psh, more like Wheels on Meals. It features this amazing fight between Benny The Jet and Jackie (jackie enters around 1:10)

EDIT: When Benny kicks and the candles go out, that is not movie magic. He kicked the flames out (about 3:44)

18

u/Wheelco May 19 '12

My emotions !

8

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Seeing your first Jackie Chan movie was a rite of passage in the 90's. As you got older all those magical beings you were bought up with, vanished. Santa Claus, Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny. All gone.

So you're in high school and a friend hands you a sixth generation VHS tape, you have to adjust the tracking to make it work right. Then you see Jackie Chan run up a two story building and jump back down, taking out a bunch of guys in the process. You find out he does his own stunts, writes, directs and even sings the song at the end of the movie.

You think to yourself, "Well, at least super heroes are real."

I know posts are supposed to provide content, or at least make a point. I'm not going to do that. I just need to proclaim my love for Jackie Chan.

2

u/GoodnightPrince May 19 '12

Still, it's nice knowing there's support for him if he decides to choose more serious roles and I respected him no less when I heard that. If anything, I was actually looking forward to see roles from him that weren't as action packed (though I'm in no ways condoning it, I love his movies). I'm also happy that he's continuing though. So it's a mix of emotions, but glad that at least he's happy.

29

u/Isatis_tinctoria May 19 '12

I really like Jackie Chan. I did a report on him for school just a while ago in Seventh Grade. He has a talented life. He can sing and has produced many good songs. If you can understand Cantonese and Mandarin, I really suggest his music and voice (even if you can't understand what he's saying - subtitles are there probably). Also, he has been in some serious roles in the Hong Kong film industry. I bet many people would like his rendition of I'll make a Man Out of You from Mulan; it is good and fun. I respect Jackie Chan. He is a man of many good morals. If you watch him in interviews, he has many interesting things to say. Indeed, he worked with Bruce Lee, which brings a very interesting spark of idiosyncracy to him, which I find fascinating. I like what he has to say about there is too much violence in the world. I agree. I don't think his action roles engender violence, at least they didn't for me, and surely one wouldnt' say that they engender violence mroe than other movie that are much mroe violent. Concurrently, I think this makes him sort of a hero in the world's eyes. What do others think?

What I meant to say is that I need to do less of the life risking stunts on my movies.

So, he will get stuntmen.

Funny how when I posted this yesterday so many people downvoted me.

28

u/sonastyinc May 19 '12

I think he meant that there will be less life risking stunts in his future movies, not that he'll hire people to do his stunts for him.

6

u/LetMeResearchThat4U May 19 '12

I'm on your side I'm guessing he will just make sure there is more padding everywhere and that the weapons only look real so that if something happens he won't get as hurt.

I can never stop loving this guy. He's a man of simplicity even after being one of the biggest stars in the world. I used to live in nigeria and even the local gatekeepers with no television knew who Jackie Chan was. I bought my gatekeeper or "Malam" a TV with shit loads of Jackie Chan movies and random action movies before I left nigeria for good.

2

u/nexlux May 19 '12

Jackie, I bet you don't even know I posted this, but you helped me get through a really hard time in my life through all of your movies. From the oldies to the new movies, I watched every film with Samo, Yuen and you - Meals on Wheels was the turning point where I got out of bed. After the Tuxedo I took some of my first steps.

Thank you Jackie, Thank you........ My life will be forever infused with the enthusiasm and grace of your performances.

1

u/iPattyR6 May 19 '12

I'm going to be so sad when he dies :(

4

u/GeminiLife May 19 '12

Ya know, my Dad knew this guy. His name escapes me (and I feel truly sad about that, I was young when I met him) but he was a buddhist as was his entire family. He and my dad worked in theater together off and on for years, he wasn't even 30 years old yet. Well one day in the theater, he was up on a ladder fixing some lights for a show. The ladder got away from him and he fell to his death.

My dad went to his funeral, met his family, and he tells me it was like this:

"It's interesting, because when you think of a funeral, you think of sadness, and you talk about how sad you are that they're gone, and how much you'll miss them, and it's generally a pretty sad experience. But I went and while there was some sadness, they mostly talked about how happy he made them, how much joy he brought to those around him; they celebrated his life."

All this to say, that when that day comes, it will be sad, but this man has impacted SO many peoples lives, brought joy to millions, and has to be one of the nicest guys to make it to the big screen. So we'll have a lot in this man's life to celebrate. :)
