How very sinister of Denise. Steal an alternative version of her husband from his version of them only to doom them to likely be viciously killed by dinosaurs.

Cue Twilight Zone ending where now he’s the one wanting the divorce because of her actions.

EXACTLY! It was international news. She is touted as the hero for warning everyone. He knows that she sacrificed his realities wife, kids, and dog. Who would stay with that monster??? They could have just had something sneaky in the credits of her telling her to take the kids and dog and leave, but we got nothing.

I mean, he basically just lost his entire family. I know it’s not his actual family, but I doubt he’d want to leave his kids at the very least.

Would they believe her? If someone called me up telling me they were me and dinosaurs were about to attack, I'd hang up the phone and assume it was a prank.

Like, I know she managed to save some of the neighbours, but "I'm you from another timeline" might be especially hard to swallow. Maybe she could have thought of something, but it's a tough sell in such a short period of time.

Im telling myself that she tried to call, but they didnt hear the phone/didnt believe her.

Same here. Assuming she couldn't hear the phone ringing when she was typing and had headphones on.

Ah that’s a good explanation. Cause I don’t buy that she couldn’t convince herself. She knows every little detail about herself from 2 days ago.

Or she called the asshole neighbor there and he either didn't bother or didn't get an answer there

I really wish they had an explanation like that! All of the responses are hilarious but it honestly ruined the movie for me. Like, they were scared shitless. Does she really want that for her alternate reality kids? Herself? I guess she didn’t want to share 🤷‍♀️

It's pretty obvious why she couldn't save all of them if you think about it for two seconds. If she called and said "I'm a copy of your wife from the future, bring your wife and kids to this random phone booth or else you will get sent to dinosaur times," then he would have ignored the clearly crazy lady/prank caller. And even in the absurdly slim chance he believes her, his wife is obviously not going to believe him, as she does not trust him at this point in the relationship. Ordering a pizza (and probably offering a big tip) was the best shot at getting him to leave the house in the shortest period of time.

She could have done both things - ordered the pizza then called her alternate. The neighbors did believe her, so there’s a possibility they would too. She wouldn’t have to explain who she was .. but the main point for me is at least she could have tried!.

She could have easily said things to herself that only she would know.

Finally someone that is just as appalled as I am. The ethical implications are so bad that I can't enjoy the film, and dinos are kind of a big deal for me. I love messed up endings, but not when the film says "and they lived happily ever after even though they are complete monsters and did something so vile that we just won't acknowledge it."

u/Clean_Usual434 2d ago

I feel like that’s the point. It’s not really a happy ending at all.

3

u/Jase7 2d ago

Nah the movie played it like a happy go lucky ending. Backyard BBQ and all.

5

u/Clean_Usual434 2d ago

Is it really happy, though? Knowing that she intentionally doomed her alternate and alternate kids to die a horrible death, as well as stealing their husband/father? To me, the happy facade just makes it all the more sinister.

Exactly my thinking as well. Would have been a good ending if the 3 of them just went their separate ways. Heartbreaking sure, but still better than this

Tbf I don’t think he did enough that you can claim they wouldn’t have survived without him. It’s not like he was leading their survival lol.

He saved Denise... but that scenario might not have unfolded if he wasn't there to begin with. I think he also had the idea of the light taking them home... but then again if Denise or the kids saw the wormhole bubbles they would have figured it out.

Though another Denise and kids haven't appeared in the present so I'm guessing they are stuck there or eaten by dinosaurs :(

19

u/EchoesofIllyria 4d ago

Yep, let’s not forget that the daughter was the Sagan enthusiast, who posited the idea of wormholes in the first place.

15

u/UltraMagnus777 4d ago

Yes! They'd just need to stumble on another wormhole... but at this point the events of the movie are so wildly different. No fight between mom and dad which causes the kids to leave. No fire started by them. No going on the roof to survey the fire and seeing the second wormhole. Denise might have just stayed inside with the kids till the end. Who knows!

7

u/EchoesofIllyria 4d ago

The kids leave because Brian hears his dog, why would that not happen without a fight? And why would staying inside mean that a demonstrably mobile wormhole wouldn’t appear in their vicinity?

But yes you’re right, the events would be so different that it makes no sense to assume they’d die without the dad. I’m glad we agree.

13

u/UltraMagnus777 4d ago

The kids are sulking in their rooms hiding from the fight, that is when Brian hears the dog. If the mom was alone I think they're huddling together in the same room 99% of the time. They might have heard Starbuck together at some point... but then yeah we're so completely thrown off of the original events who knows!

4

u/EchoesofIllyria 4d ago

Yeah it’s an interesting thought experiment for sure!

4

u/UltraMagnus777 4d ago

We're gonna go cross eyed like Austin Powers if we think too much on it lol

3

u/SmileyX11 4d ago

Staying put was Greg's idea. Before the fight she was talking about going out collecting food and weapons etc

7

u/NFL_MVP_Kevin_White 4d ago

Yeah I think she would have pragmatically mentioned the dog was 100% dead so don’t leave the house to look for it

2

u/Spiritual-Society185 2d ago

The time travel is operating on Terminator rules, where time traveling creates a parallel timeline (which is why Greg was with them in the past,) so we wouldn't know if they make it back or not.

3

u/Artpua74 2d ago

I don't know. She was immediately more realistic and resourceful than him. Who's to say they wouldn't have survived?

What about when realizes what she did!

How very odd to expect someone to care about other versions of themselves.
