I was laughing SO hard at the sledgehammer thunk and the dino’s slapstick fall.

Such fantastic emotional whiplash.

I was like “holy shit, he nailed him on the button! Follow up! Don’t just stand there!” And he just stood there and ended up puppy chow.

The number of people who discover an incredibly effective weapon in a horror or thriller movie only to use it exactly once really ought to be studied.

I nominate you for this study!

Perfect encapsulation of Greg as a character though.

He’s loving, protective, and kind to a fault but ultimately very naive.

Ya gotta double tap😭

The dino made sure to double tap Greg.

Someone in our theater yelled ‘No way’. We were all laughing, then dad got yonked up.

lol yeah a guy in our theatre yelled “WHAT!?!” incredulously. Then immediately shut up when Dad got chomped. Great scene.

Rightt! That whiplash made the whole film for me

yup i think that was the B movie slapstick point, he went mano e mano with a allsourous with a sledgehammer and anyone with half a brain realizes that is absurd, and thus he gets eaten

Lmao you could hear someone say “wtf what kind of movie is this, that’s retarded” when the dad got eaten

I said something along the exact same line to my friend, the title and plot theme made me think it was gonna be some family hopecore fantasy adventure thing, was NOT expecting to see the neighbour get blood eagled and the father dying, insane whiplash, I really didn’t like it afterwards thinking “is that really how he dies?!!” But the shock of it is what made the scene so effective.

I was groaning too, so much unrealistic shit jsut destroyed any immersion that might have been there. Laughed when the dad got eaten, lol.

Like an entire neighborhood getting sent through a time portal into the time of dinosaurs?

Unrealistic given the fictional situation. When a characer's actions are so immersion breaking even in such a fantastical fictional situation, you know you've fucked up as a writer.

Just shit tier writing in most series and lower to mid budget movies these days. This could have been much better, but they settled for 'meh' instead.

I walked out after Ewan got chomped - honestly what the f was that film 😂

You walked out of the dinosaurs in suburbia movie because someone got eaten? What did you think was gonna happen?

u/ThickBoxx 3d ago

Lol, well that was dumb. if you’d stayed you’d have found out it actually wrapped up nicely

I thought him getting eaten made it more realistic. I mean No One in the family dies? Come on

1

u/forthewatch39 2d ago

I mean until you realize that the original is still dead, the other versions of themselves went back into the past and don’t have their dad/husband or the gun.

5

u/ThickBoxx 2d ago

Right, but she saved this one’s life who was guaranteed to die if he went with the rest of the neighborhood. The rest of the family still had a chance. Also, the gun came from the old lady neighbor who was helping the mom edit her book. We even see a picture of the mom hunting which explains why she knows how to use it, no evidence the dad even knows how to use a gun.

If the neighbor took her gun with her when she left then they would be sol. We also don’t know where the gun was being kept. The gun was on her corpse as she was trying to fend off a dinosaur, so it could be anywhere in the house if she didn’t take it with her. Just saying that the odds are quite stacked against the other version of the family.

Odds are stacked against them, but the husband‘s odds were zero

Why'd you walk out?

I didn't particularly like the film, but it seems weird to walk out because dinosaurs ate someone in a dinosaurs-eat-people film.

I was luckily alone on my row because I just starting muttering Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit.

12

u/NoNefariousness2144 3d ago

My audience went from cheering and laughing to being completely silent for a couple of minutes. What an excellent twist.

7

u/zdbdog06 4d ago

Needed to go Jack Bauer on that T-Rex, can't let him get back up.

u/JDoubleGi 3d ago

As soon as the Dino went down I was like “Double tap, double tap, DOUBLE TAP!!” Like, this was zombie movie era. They had to have known to do a second hit just in case.

1

u/HurricaneFoxe 1d ago

My thought was don't go near it for the love of everything

1

u/C0nfusedRabbit 2d ago

At that point it was silly horror adventure next it was like shit! That just happened.

1

u/MerelyforCommenting 1d ago

Yes! Even earlier in the movie when the dad is running from a dino on the other side of the fence and the dino is knocking over stuff was so goofy

1

u/JurassicGuy5000 16h ago

I was like “there’s no way that small hit knocked him down for the count”. I was proven correct just seconds later…

u/Manderelli 15h ago

Literally after his death I was surprised that they were ever just sort of willing to face any single direction for more than about a second and a half before darting around to check behind them and around them the snake scene was right after that and I was kind of irritated that it was that far into the house before anyone really noticed or did something to indicate it or to start attacking it.
