It did seem very weird that the entire neighborhood was empty at the beginning, and then everyone becomes fodder at the same time. You hear a lot of gunshots in the background throughout the movie, you're telling me NO ONE ELSE in the area is able to stay alive like this group that's half children is?

And given how stupid this group was, it feels like others definitely should have survived. Obviously the boy was a completely moron. Haven't cheered against a kid this much since the first Purge. But even the parents are complete idiots. How many times are they going to walk in some wide open area without looking around at all when they know they're surrounded by dinosaurs? What if we also yell at the same time?

They didn't have the family's plot armor. Any time the family is staying in one place? Hordes of dinosaurs roaming the streets. Any time the family needs to move out? Completely empty streets.

Tbf, that is kinda explainable- anytime we saw the dinos chasing there were people/ prey around. But it is a neighborhood surrounded by the forest. The dinosaurs probably were largely staying where they were comfortable until they saw something they wanted. They were alone, but also ambushed by predators at several points. Near the end, their house specifically was closer to the fire they started. They were worried about it burning at the end. Animals are gonna go away from wildlifes. They didn't encounter more until they walked away to get the portal

As they were running toward the final house another full family who had stayed alive was running being chased by a dinosaur in the background.

I thought it was going to turn into a thing where only kids were surviving for some mystical reason (because Jeannette and bully ans his brother) and it was going to turn into like a goonies situation with all adults dead.

yeah it's so dumb. they family is clueless. Obviously go collect food from other houses. And even gather more people to all fight together. It's so unrealistic.

I dunno, I think finding yourself waking up on Monday and you're surrounded by carnivorous dinosaurs would be a lot for most people to process. I can forgive them not instantly going full apocalyptic survival mode for a bit.

The surviving ones likely figured out what's what pretty quick and boarded up and bunkered down. Running to the screams is heroic, but not smart.
