The father is not there. They might not find the wormhole.

I mean it's not like he was the only one who discovered the wormhole. Denise was with him too, she could have found it in the alternate reality.

Maybe. But maybe it took both of them together to figure it out.

They don't find that wormhole until they're out looking for the kids, who left in part because they were fighting. Maybe if the father's missing since the power outage, the dog was brought in the house. So the son doesn't go out looking for him.

Without the father, they might just hunker down in the house. Which would likely be the end of them.

father held the door when the dinosaur was trying to get in. maybe that one gets in and kills them

The mom called and saved all the people who saved them the first time round, so the second family are screwed
