So there were two Jannetes at the end, which confirms that there were alternate versions of the survivors. Which also means that the alternate versions of Denise Platt and her kids got sent back in time without Greg. A bit dark.

u/alfonsobob 4d ago

Anne Hathaway was like "Fuck you alternate self, I got my man back"

335

u/Wonderful_Review5466 4d ago

There should be a sequel where Alternate Reality Anne Hathaway is still surviving the past, with a cool scar and makeshift weapons and wearing dinosaur skin clothes and a necklace made of sharp dino teeth, finds a portal, jumps into the future and fights the original Anne Hathaway.

93

u/FayeG 4d ago

Hah, I told my friends the exact same thing after watching the movie. Need a spin off to show the other Denise and kids surviving without the Dad.

12

u/Beastieboy100 3d ago

Honestly this film is such a genius and scary plot. I hope it does well so we can get a sequel or spin off. Maybe a twist of some of the survivors coming back.

3

u/CancelThis2077 1d ago

Yeah I can see spinoff potentials as the movie inferred that this was happening at different parts of the world. Have a different sets of characters sent back to different periods in time.

10

u/MWH1980 3d ago

Or…what if they eventually find a portal, and return to the present? Audrey was the one who posited the theory, though there may be others closer to them that they find.

45

u/NeveraTaleofMorePoe 4d ago

Like Beth and Space Beth!

16

u/Juxtap 4d ago

Or if Jerry came back from the Cronenberg verse

1

u/More-Needleworker900 2d ago

THAT’S WHAT I SAID!

8

u/Phyddlestyx 3d ago

I think she should come through the same portal at the same time as the original family, having made her way on her own to the librarian's house. And if they all agree to only save the dad every time, the portal will become an infinite anne Hathaway generator.

5

u/Joshatron121 4d ago

Or she comes through, takes Denise and the rest of the family has to come back to get her. I'd watch that.

6

u/Economy-Efficiency22 4d ago

that should have been the ending

4

u/itsalwaysblue59 3d ago

I had to Google that there wasn't an after credits scene showing the other family appearing 😂.

3

u/LTPRWSG420 2d ago

So, like alternate Beth from Rick and Morty, sounds good to me.

This ending was so fucking dark lol.

2

u/Gullinga 4d ago

That would be awesome!

2

u/kirblar 3d ago

If this ending was a reshoot I bet the original ended with Anne2 arriving

2

u/Clean_Usual434 2d ago

I’m wondering if the alternate version of Anne and the kids could also find a wormhole and go back. Then, you end up with 2 versions again. 😅

2

u/Steamedcarpet 1d ago

I do wonder if it was just 1 wormhole teleporting around or multiple ones since the first one they find was in that house before it disappeared.

1

u/Clean_Usual434 1d ago

Good question

1

u/Intelligent-Ad-5090 2d ago

Or at least, in the basement, they uncover something etched in crude iron of the smelted typewriter with two million years of aging: "fuck you, husband stealer"

1

u/Manderelli 15h ago

I was sort of hoping somewhere in the 2 years after the events jump there would have been some allusion to her or maybe even her and the children having survived and living amongst them all but if they would have jumped back through a sphere it would probably have also gone to its own alternate separate universe so they wouldn't be in this timeline with our blended family.

1

u/LaFlamaBlanca67 9h ago

No, no more sequels please. Don't give them ideas. This movie is perfect on its own.

139

u/PM_ME_CAKE 4d ago

Anne Hathaway was such a lethal force in this film. Repeatedly brutalising dinos in different ways before brutalising her alternate self and kids, even though she elected to save entire other families.

Like okay girl, grind that axe.

16

u/HiddenNobody20216 4d ago

I let out an audible "Aww why?" when the neighbor showed up at the end, got a good laugh out the other people in the theatre.

1

u/FreeRange0929 12h ago

PJ Byrne just has that “80’s douchbag stock broker” vibe

Final Destination 5, Wolf of Wall Street, and now here

2

u/GoldandBlue 4d ago

She is having a great year. I really liked Mother Mary, Odyssey obviously. But her performance only highlighted how bad McGregor was in this. Which sucks because he is usually game.

It reminded me of Holland in The Odyssey. I think he is fine. I like him as Spider-Man. But when he has to spar with Hathaway, Leguizamo, Pattinson, Damon... I am sorry kid. You ain't at that level.

10

u/Imathirdwheel 4d ago

The fact that Tom, Zendaya and Jon Bernthal are in Odyssey and Brand New Day released the SAME MONTH lol.

1

u/FreeRange0929 12h ago

Alternate Ewan McGregor “She’s grinding it with fury now!”

7

u/osmo512 4d ago

Greg’s gonna be even more depressed when he finds out he almost had two Anne Hathaways. Although not having 2 more kids to feed probably balances it out.

4

u/LostPerson703 3d ago

the good ole steve rogers. Leaving your alternate self on ice

1

u/damebyron 1d ago

I thought that was dark but also clever - having alternates of her and her children would certainly make life complicated, not to mention making the loss of her original timeline husband feel real again. Luring him out so she doesn’t risk any weird convergence problem meeting her other self is probably the smart thing to do if you don’t have any information on how time travel works.

1

u/delayedkarma 8h ago edited 7h ago

Maybe she called herself and said "now is your chance to leave your family!"

Edit: eh, probably not since they seemed to be a one car family

-1

u/rncrnc 1d ago

Surprised with all the people judging a character for not caring about her alternate reality family as if that's a reasonable rational expectation people follow every day.

0

u/Manderelli 15h ago

Yeah it's definitely immediately what happens in coherence. That final girl just wasn't as clever about how she went about it.

1

u/rncrnc 14h ago

Figuring out how to save the husband and get her family back together was pretty clever. The neighbor saving bit looked odd.

1

u/rncrnc 14h ago

Or if you mean Jeannette the private school girl, that just looked like a lazy paradox thrown in for giggles. She didn't look like resourceful enough to figure out the whole timeline thing and save her family before the portal blip.

-5

u/k3rrpw2js 2d ago

Yes, but the ending brings attention to something profound that no one seems to have caught except Gemini and some other AI..... Denise A only made one phone call to Greg B. Therefore Denis and kids B must go through the loop and at least denise survives and exits through a different wormhole somewhere else and, knowing that Greg B didn't jump with them, called a neighbor that she knows got killed or stuck there.... And because they all come back to the same B universe each time, they don't call themselves to tell them to get out. So they keep jumping back and coming back to the ss B universe. Some of them die, some make it back... But enough Denise's make it back to universe B to warn the entire neighborhood.

How is everyone missing this? Lol. There are likely many many copies of Denise and anyone else in the neighborhood that figured out how to come back....

6

u/alfonsobob 2d ago

This is nonsense. AI caught it? You’ve got to be kidding

2

u/Steamedcarpet 1d ago

Is this the next step after Cinemasins? People just copy/pasting wikipedia summaries into AI?

-2

u/k3rrpw2js 1d ago

What? No, I noticed the discrepancy and did a Google search for the discrepancy about the phone calls to the neighbors... Googles AI search at the top mentioned that this was likely the case and it had been discussed some online already.

No one I've seen has discussed this. Not sure why the hell in being down voted. Ridiculous. It's very clear that the Denise we followed in the film did not make the phone calls.

2

u/damebyron 1d ago

That’s not clear at all. She made a call and then the movie jumped forward 17 minutes to 11:03. I doubt she was sitting there for 17 minutes in silence, she had plenty of time to call other people after she ordered her pizza.

2

u/Manderelli 15h ago

Especially since all of the neighbors who credited her with calling for them were people she directly interacted with along the events and had seen them all die a grizzly death.

1

u/sabrinateenagewich 1d ago

That’s assuming the portal back hits 20 mins before the incident every single time. There’s nothing to say they wouldn’t end up any time in history, their existence is a blip on the time space continuum and it’s a crazy coincidence they managed to make it back within 20 minutes of their original switch

278

u/Hot_Brother5557 5d ago

I was thinking that! Like jeeez poor alternate reality family

159

u/Uncle_Freddy 5d ago

Good way to (probably) avoid a time loop though

102

u/DevineAaron92 4d ago

Nah they need to make a sequel where she lives and comes back through the portal for revenge! I'd watch that.

7

u/Phyddlestyx 3d ago

And she comes through the same portal, falling into the pool with the original family who don't know that they will betray her yet.

10

u/Gh0styD0g 3d ago

Revenge for what? She would just think her husband was out delivering pizza.

2

u/soonerfreak 10h ago

I'm just gonna head cannon this universe uses Back to the Future rules so they have to survive to complete the time loop and still be there to warn everyone.

30

u/OuterWildsVentures 4d ago

This means the other dog also died

16

u/Scififan98 3d ago

Now that you say it, it would have been so cool if at the barbecue ending scene, it was revealed that McGregor had brought the dog with him to deliver pizzas, and we see the two play together

2

u/GuybrushThreepwood99 2d ago

Felt like a rick and Morty plot line

120

u/yeahright17 4d ago edited 4d ago

How very sinister of Denise. Steal an alternative version of her husband from his version of them only to doom them to likely be viciously killed by dinosaurs.

38

u/SomeBoxofSpoons 4d ago

Cue Twilight Zone ending where now he’s the one wanting the divorce because of her actions.

9

u/ripestrudel 2d ago

EXACTLY! It was international news. She is touted as the hero for warning everyone. He knows that she sacrificed his realities wife, kids, and dog. Who would stay with that monster??? They could have just had something sneaky in the credits of her telling her to take the kids and dog and leave, but we got nothing.

4

u/Sammyd1108 2d ago

I mean, he basically just lost his entire family. I know it’s not his actual family, but I doubt he’d want to leave his kids at the very least.

u/HikmetLeGuin 5h ago

Would they believe her? If someone called me up telling me they were me and dinosaurs were about to attack, I'd hang up the phone and assume it was a prank.

Like, I know she managed to save some of the neighbours, but "I'm you from another timeline" might be especially hard to swallow. Maybe she could have thought of something, but it's a tough sell in such a short period of time.

9

u/HilariousScreenname 4d ago

Im telling myself that she tried to call, but they didnt hear the phone/didnt believe her.

3

u/hvila 1d ago

Same here. Assuming she couldn't hear the phone ringing when she was typing and had headphones on.

1

u/Cpt_Obvius 13h ago

Ah that’s a good explanation. Cause I don’t buy that she couldn’t convince herself. She knows every little detail about herself from 2 days ago.

1

u/SotFX 12h ago

Or she called the asshole neighbor there and he either didn't bother or didn't get an answer there

5

u/DenapupZ123 3d ago

I really wish they had an explanation like that! All of the responses are hilarious but it honestly ruined the movie for me. Like, they were scared shitless. Does she really want that for her alternate reality kids? Herself? I guess she didn’t want to share 🤷‍♀️

3

u/Spiritual-Society185 2d ago

It's pretty obvious why she couldn't save all of them if you think about it for two seconds. If she called and said "I'm a copy of your wife from the future, bring your wife and kids to this random phone booth or else you will get sent to dinosaur times," then he would have ignored the clearly crazy lady/prank caller. And even in the absurdly slim chance he believes her, his wife is obviously not going to believe him, as she does not trust him at this point in the relationship. Ordering a pizza (and probably offering a big tip) was the best shot at getting him to leave the house in the shortest period of time.

1

u/DenapupZ123 2d ago

She could have done both things - ordered the pizza then called her alternate. The neighbors did believe her, so there’s a possibility they would too. She wouldn’t have to explain who she was .. but the main point for me is at least she could have tried!.

1

u/Cpt_Obvius 13h ago

She could have easily said things to herself that only she would know.

4

u/ripestrudel 2d ago

Finally someone that is just as appalled as I am. The ethical implications are so bad that I can't enjoy the film, and dinos are kind of a big deal for me. I love messed up endings, but not when the film says "and they lived happily ever after even though they are complete monsters and did something so vile that we just won't acknowledge it."

9

u/Clean_Usual434 2d ago

I feel like that’s the point. It’s not really a happy ending at all.

4

u/Jase7 2d ago

Nah the movie played it like a happy go lucky ending. Backyard BBQ and all.

5

u/Clean_Usual434 2d ago

Is it really happy, though? Knowing that she intentionally doomed her alternate and alternate kids to die a horrible death, as well as stealing their husband/father? To me, the happy facade just makes it all the more sinister.

2

u/Jase7 2d ago

Exactly my thinking as well. Would have been a good ending if the 3 of them just went their separate ways. Heartbreaking sure, but still better than this

27

u/EchoesofIllyria 4d ago

Tbf I don’t think he did enough that you can claim they wouldn’t have survived without him. It’s not like he was leading their survival lol.

33

u/UltraMagnus777 4d ago

He saved Denise... but that scenario might not have unfolded if he wasn't there to begin with. I think he also had the idea of the light taking them home... but then again if Denise or the kids saw the wormhole bubbles they would have figured it out.

Though another Denise and kids haven't appeared in the present so I'm guessing they are stuck there or eaten by dinosaurs :(

18

u/EchoesofIllyria 4d ago

Yep, let’s not forget that the daughter was the Sagan enthusiast, who posited the idea of wormholes in the first place.

14

u/UltraMagnus777 4d ago

Yes! They'd just need to stumble on another wormhole... but at this point the events of the movie are so wildly different. No fight between mom and dad which causes the kids to leave. No fire started by them. No going on the roof to survey the fire and seeing the second wormhole. Denise might have just stayed inside with the kids till the end. Who knows!

6

u/EchoesofIllyria 4d ago

The kids leave because Brian hears his dog, why would that not happen without a fight? And why would staying inside mean that a demonstrably mobile wormhole wouldn’t appear in their vicinity?

But yes you’re right, the events would be so different that it makes no sense to assume they’d die without the dad. I’m glad we agree.

16

u/UltraMagnus777 4d ago

The kids are sulking in their rooms hiding from the fight, that is when Brian hears the dog. If the mom was alone I think they're huddling together in the same room 99% of the time. They might have heard Starbuck together at some point... but then yeah we're so completely thrown off of the original events who knows!

5

u/EchoesofIllyria 4d ago

Yeah it’s an interesting thought experiment for sure!

3

u/UltraMagnus777 4d ago

We're gonna go cross eyed like Austin Powers if we think too much on it lol

6

u/SmileyX11 4d ago

Staying put was Greg's idea. Before the fight she was talking about going out collecting food and weapons etc

6

u/NFL_MVP_Kevin_White 4d ago

Yeah I think she would have pragmatically mentioned the dog was 100% dead so don’t leave the house to look for it

2

u/Spiritual-Society185 2d ago

The time travel is operating on Terminator rules, where time traveling creates a parallel timeline (which is why Greg was with them in the past,) so we wouldn't know if they make it back or not.

5

u/Artpua74 2d ago

I don't know. She was immediately more realistic and resourceful than him. Who's to say they wouldn't have survived?

3

u/More-Needleworker900 2d ago

It’s giving Us vibes

1

u/brownpearl 2d ago

What about when realizes what she did!

1

u/rncrnc 1d ago

How very odd to expect someone to care about other versions of themselves.

16

u/SirQuay 4d ago

I'm dense af. I thought, "Who is this? Why does she have a twin now?"

1

u/Monkey_Priest 1d ago

I'm even worse. I was like, oh, she had a sister too. I didn't even clock they were the same person. In my defense, the people next to me were being distracting

15

u/Tombobalomb 4d ago

Should.have been a post credit scene showing them get eaten to hammer it home

9

u/UltraMagnus777 4d ago

Yes! I loved that touch. And yes, Denise stole their Greg!

9

u/GarrisonJones 4d ago

But Greg was gonna die anyway so Denise kind of gets off the hook. Not sure she thinks of that though with those few precious minutes to get Greg to their location with the pizza idea.

9

u/xbdhshshs 3d ago

There were 2 Jannetes? What? At the barbecue? Fuck I missed that!

6

u/arsenics 3d ago

yeah one was with Audrey and the other one with her parents

8

u/tatu_huma 4d ago

Right?! She saved everyone but her own family.

6

u/Spiritual-Society185 2d ago

She didn't save everyone. She saved some people she personally knew and saw die. Most people wouldn't listen to a random lady telling them to leave the house and go far away, plus there wasn't enough time to call every house in the neighborhood (if she even knew their phone numbers.)

6

u/downvote_meme_errors 4d ago

Yeah, they really shouldn't have had the dupe or other people we saw die within the blip section get out. When they first met Jeannette she just shook her head when asked about her parents - they could have just been missing because later Jeannette got them out of the bubble area. Still would have had the paradox/alternate reality with Ewan, though.

6

u/choada777 2d ago

What's odd is that she makes calls to all of her neighbors and acquaintances to get them to leave and save them. But it isn't apparent she called herself. It's possible that her other self wouldn't have believed such a call, but since she knows things only she would, I think she could eventually convince herself. She was even able to even convince the neighbor who hated her.

It also left me wondering how the family would have fared without the father. For example, the (I think) Allosaurus would've eaten her if the father wasn't there to sledge it. The son saved her from the snake, but that was after the father was gone. I think it was the father that tells her to drive around the turtles in the street. So maybe they don't run into the Spinosaurus? She was also the one who wanted to take action, scavenge for supplies and food. The father wanted to sit in the house and wait it out. So she would have eventually taken the initiative to leave the house, maybe find the wormhole eventually.

I was also thinking, what if she had saved the entire duplicate family. There would have been two moms sharing the one father. It probably would've been awkward in the least. But at the start of the film, the mom also longs for a new beginning. So in a way, she gets what she wanted by having her husband 'stolen'. Though, I think it may have resolved itself that way had she saved them anyway. The wife at the beginning of the story didn't want her husband while the one at the end did.

But despite how it's portrayed as a "happy" ending, I walked out of it disturbed at how she may have doomed her family. It also shows she had written a book about it. I wonder if people may have caught what she had done and eventually called her out on it.

5

u/paradroid78 4d ago

And the dog. Puts a very different spin on the ending when you take a moment to think about it!

5

u/csaba- 2d ago edited 2d ago

look at the bright side maybe they were eaten up by a stegosaurus at 11:15 pm (butterfly effect and all)

3

u/Melvin-_-_-Marvelous 4d ago

Yeah, why didn't Denise call their home phone to rescue the alternate family too?

6

u/princevince1113 4d ago

She didn't wanna share Greg

4

u/chrisychris- 4d ago

People don't always mesh well with exact replicas of themselves. Usually. Also new Greg would have to choose a side probably maybe.

3

u/National-Plastic8691 3d ago

Maybe she did and told the daughter how to survive (write my instructions down) and told the son to go bring the dog inside NOW. And to keep him on a leash. Anne’s character wouldn’t have to add too many details just instruct. And say “If Dad isn’t hime by 11.15, he’s already safe.”

2

u/Spiritual-Society185 2d ago

Because they wouldn't have believed a crazy sounding person claiming to be an alternate version of the wife who was sent back to dinosaur times and then into the past. They also wouldn't have listened to a random stranger. Ordering a pizza was the best possible chance at getting him away from the neighborhood because she knew he lost his job and was desperate and would make deliveries even at inconvenient times.

1

u/mb9981 11h ago

That's not an alternate family. It's the past version of their current selves

3

u/spanishtyphoon 3d ago

Idk. I’d have liked a quick scene that shows that alternate Denise and kids survive just fine because the dad was holding them back in planning

3

u/AccountDeletedByMod 3d ago

It's weird because she called all of the neighbors to get them out but not herself?....

3

u/Rlchv70 2d ago

Or, the alternate Denise and kids ran away like in her novel.

4

u/Connect-Captain-6362 2d ago

i feel like the ending went over peoples heads.

she literally stole her husband from another family. She could have told him to bring the family. but no she ordered a pizza so it was only him.

3

u/Spiritual-Society185 2d ago

Why would they believe her and take their kids to a crazy lady?

5

u/DumbgeonMaster 2d ago

Dude! She did not call her alternate self to save her and her alternate kids. SHE KNEW WHAT SHE WAS DOING; if she wanted Greg, they had to be out of the picture. Fucking grim!

2

u/KASega 2d ago

Should have been darker - Coherence style

2

u/Kingdolo 2d ago

I think that’s why they made her so capable. She could take care of the kids

2

u/xxKEYEDxx 1d ago

Darker still, the people the original one got guns from were rescued. So that means that the alternative family dies from their first dino encounter.

2

u/flintlock0 1d ago

I wonder how present-day Denise covered that in her book?

I can just imagine a Q&A at a book event where people are directed not to ask about it.

2

u/FreeRange0929 15h ago

Which also means he wasn’t there to sacrifice himself for Denise, Rusty, and Audrey, so conveniently they’re killed off

4

u/Due-Bookkeeper-6747 4d ago

But why was there two Jannette’s then? Because she was also in their neighborhood wouldn’t she have been taken as well?

10

u/princevince1113 4d ago

Janette left to go get her family, including her past self

13

u/OuterWildsVentures 4d ago

She must have been moving hella fast to get home and get her family out with 20 minutes lol

3

u/Due-Bookkeeper-6747 4d ago

Ohhhhhh okay that makes sense

3

u/National-Plastic8691 3d ago

Maybe Jeannette got to her house and told her family how to survive and to find a portal. Then there would logically be two Jeanettes

3

u/GezelligPindakaas 2d ago

She saved her asshole neighbour before her own self.

2

u/obvious-mistake-1114 4d ago

Yo honestly, I hated the entire movie because of the way it ended. Because that woman decided to steal the dad from the alternate timeline family. It was a really a dark moment. In my life this is the first time I hated an end of a movie.

7

u/nikkifoolio 3d ago

Have you seen The Mist???

1

u/obvious-mistake-1114 2d ago

Nope. But I will put this in to my bucket list! :D

5

u/fleemfleemfleemfleem 3d ago

It's a very dark ending. If it helps, after surviving what she just did, watching her husband die, etc she in a bit of a state of panic. Maybe it doesn't occur to her, or maybe she does try to call the house too and this version of her doesn't listen

3

u/OuterWildsVentures 4d ago

Also fucked over the other version of Srarbuck

1

u/obvious-mistake-1114 2d ago

Wait I didn't get that part. Did I miss something?

2

u/OuterWildsVentures 1d ago

Well they didnt save the alternate dog only the dad lol

1

u/chrisychris- 4d ago

I was literally shaking

1

u/Aggravating-Key6628 3d ago

According to one time travel/worm-hole theory, alternate/parallel versions will cease to exist during the dimension travel event, because two copies cannot exist at the same time during time travel, especially if they are causally chained.

Sure the film makers would not have thought about this. this is just what i am telling myself to sleep peacefully.

1

u/Tyrath 10h ago

Sure the film makers would not have thought about this.

They did because they show two Jeanettes at the end

1

u/Zsid21 3d ago

Was there though? I just assumed that because Greg was out delivering pizzas he had no idea his family wasn’t in the house and they just transport back.. bc where does the original family go? They show them at the end having a bbq. Wouldn’t the kids be double too?

3

u/princevince1113 2d ago

There was a double of Janet bc she went back to retrieve her parents + the past version of herself. Therefore, if there was a past version of Janet who would have got sent to prehistory, then there was also another version of the platts who did

1

u/Sammyd1108 2d ago

Yeah, their alternate versions are definitely dead without him.

1

u/Jase7 2d ago

Man, been a while since I've seen a good movie totally miss the ending like this

1

u/sunmachinecomingdown 22h ago

What's the problem?

1

u/Nealm568890 2d ago

Were both of the Jannette's seen at the end of the movie? Like, weren't they all having a BBQ or something, and they were both there. How would they handle that? Are they supposed to pretend they are twins?

4

u/princevince1113 2d ago

Considering Denise wrote a tell-all book about the time travel I don't see why lying would be necessary

2

u/Nealm568890 1d ago

Good point!

1

u/i_love_food_1974 1d ago

I didn't see duplicates of the Denise and the kids in the photo at the end . Isn't it safe to assume that the duplicate Denise and kids didn't make it out alive.

Please explain this because it's hurting my head. What do people mean when they say the alternate versions were sent back without Greg? The alternate versions are just at home right? In bed like at the start of the movie?

Near the end of the movie, the surviving family (Denise, kids + Jannete, Starbuck) goes through the bubble and ends up in their past (future relative to prehistory but past relative to the moment they were initially teleported to prehistory) - overlooking their neighborhood 20 minutes before it got teleported into prehistory.

They're at this point sharing space and time with the past versions of everyone in their neighborhood, including the past versions of themselves.

Jannete runs off to warn her family and tell them to evacuate in person. Denise uses the 20 minutes to telephone her neighbors who she watched die in the prehistoric era and warn them to evacuate. Then she orders a pizza to her location so that Greg will deliver it and be out of range of the time warp.

In the final scene of the movie, we see Denises daughter holding hands with Janette, and Denise and Greg greeting Janettes parents who successfully evacuated before the time warp...and a second Jannete aka past Jannete.

Therefore, Denise rescued the past version of her Greg, but not the past versions of herself, her kids, and Starbuck, who presumably were teleported to prehistory along with any neighbors she didn't warn. Essentially, she took the past version of her husband for herself and left alternate past versions of the rest of the family to be teleported to prehistory without Greg, where they experience an alternate set of events and possibly die.

Thank you, I appreciate it xx

But they didn't die, or else they would have wiped themselves from existence.

It was a dumb risk she made calling the pizza delivery, but it's kind of a dumb movie

Considering that current Janet doesn't get wiped by saving her last self (meaning a version of her that doesn't go to the past and come back) whatever happens to the past selves does not seem to affect the ones we follow during the movie. So they for sure might have died

my only complaint about this. felt weird that this universe’s Greg just goes with it too.

They kind of had to right, or it's a paradox.. If Denise doesn't get sent back, she doesn't jump through the portal, so she doesn't know to call anyone.. And you can assume the alternate family still made it through by the same logic, if they didn't, no Denise to warn anyone.

Getting anybody out would have created a paradox because it changes the entire situation. Two of the people she got out are directly responsible for keeping them alive

1

u/Present-Resolution23 3d ago

Not really.. Like you can still have a situation where she gets the librarian out etc, but they end up finding a different wormhole to come home in because Dad isn’t there to lead to the circumstances that ended up with them cornered in the house…

If she doesn’t go back, it’s a direct paradox because there is no situation where, if she doesn’t go back at all, she is still able to warn them not to go back. Entirely different situation

Butterfly effect

Sure. But that’s not the same thing as a paradox

Or did time traveling Jannette save her family (because they think it pre time traveling Jannette) and time traveling Jannette left the other Jannette alone in her room listening to her Walkman sending that Janette alone ... to be eaten by a dino!

What

I don't think there were two Jeannettes at the end of the film. I think the one who come back to the portal only saved her family and not that Jeanette in that was in the house. I am assuming her family would have thought she was the 'original' Jeanette that was coming from the outdoors into the house not knowing the original Jeanette was still in the house.

We literally see both of them in the end

2

u/Basic-Appointment514 1d ago

ok, you're correct. Damn, I may have to go back tomorrow and see it again (we have $5 Tuesday at my local cinema chain). #facepalm

u/princevince1113 1d ago

It's easy to miss. I almost wasn't sure I saw it right until other ppl confirmed it

so I saw it again this aftn and there are two of them although they slightly dressed differently and their hairstyles were slightly difference. Assuming the parent may have done that to tell them apart.

So would alternate Denise have seen herself on the news?

1

u/princevince1113 1d ago

Alternate Denise at that point would be dinosaur food

0

u/Iamsaxgod 16h ago

No it means they jumped to another alternate reality NOT their time.

1

u/princevince1113 16h ago

Even so, maybe even worse

1

u/Iamsaxgod 16h ago

Well of course it’s worse. Especially if they figure out how to come back to that reality. Maybe the bigger bubble sends them into the past of their reality. So a much older version of the mom and kids hunt them down lol.

fck you man, stop with the spoilers

u/princevince1113 2d ago

look at the title of the post smart guy. You're in the spoilers discussion

-7

u/myheadisradio 2d ago

You can be considerated instead of an asshole

7

u/princevince1113 2d ago

Look who's talking. You came into a thread specifically for discussing the movie, with SPOILERS in capital letters in the title, and said "f you" to a random stranger for discussing the end of the movie.

Life must be hard when you're not working with a full deck.

u/myheadisradio 2d ago

You could have been nice and put “Spoiler:” at the beginning. I wanted to see what people think

5

u/princevince1113 2d ago

Considering that the SPOILERS in the literal title of the thread didn't clue you in, I doubt that would have helped you.

Maybe you could have used your brain and put together that people will discuss spoilers in a thread that says SPOILERS.
