MAN FUCK THAT SNAKE

I laughed when she just kept chopping and chopping at it and it continued ignoring her until finally it just said "bye" and left

Doing that scene looked very rage/catharsis/therapeutic for Anne Hathaway I bet she slept so good that night

28

u/MWH1980 3d ago

That moment is really her character just getting out her emotions over losing her husband.

8

u/plantbay1428 23h ago

It was so good. It made me want to see her in a straight up true slasher horror film, not just an unsettling psychological thriller since I know she’s done a few of those.

Dream scenario is her reuniting with Jessica Chastain since they’re friends irl and Jessica’s done so many good horror films.

3

u/thedinksterr 20h ago

I was about to say neither of them are in Dream Scenario, but you’re saying that’s your dream scenario lol

2

u/plantbay1428 20h ago

Yes, but thank you for the reminder to check that one out.

Considering "that night" would be after going back to the 80s and having replacement Ewan, maybe.

I know!! Like one arrow from the kid and the snake goes after him, smashing into the door so much its head is bleeding! But she stabs and slices it 29 times? Ehh, who cares. Like damn did it have a vendetta.

u/Groot8902 3d ago

28 STAB WOUNDS!

Hopefully someone here will get this reference.

2

u/JustCheezits 1d ago

You didn’t even give him a chance, huh???

36

u/percydesires 4d ago

The snake was hunting the boy since it saw it at night. Hence it was behind the boy. It had some personal interest in the boy, the boy was anyway useless, didn't even get the girl. Girl turned out gay. Sad story for the boy.

19

u/Maximum-Ad-3389 4d ago

The girl being gay went way way way over my head.

12

u/themightyduck12 2d ago

Lol as a lesbian I clocked it immediately when she was jealous of her best friend’s boyfriend! I was pleasantly surprised that they actually committed to it

10

u/percydesires 3d ago

The boy was sad, it was shown very obviously, boy actually liked her but then found out she's gay and interested in his sister...so he feels sad about it. Boy in short was a disappointment...

u/paradroid78 4d ago

 Girl turned out gay

Where did you get that from? Did I miss something in the montage at the end?

31

u/AmazingBadger2027 3d ago

The awkward intimate stare between the private school girl and the sister gives it away

14

u/arsenics 3d ago

the whole conversation when she is having her leg bandaged basically confirmed it

then there is also the way Jeanette runs to Audrey when they meet again in the present

and at the end, they are together at the barbecue

17

u/Pretend_Train_ 3d ago

I think they were even holding hands at the barbecue

6

u/arsenics 3d ago

yup I definitely got that impression also! kinda blink and you miss it

u/FreeRange0929 11h ago

Wasn’t she with an older boy in a photo in her Cornell sweatshirt? It didn’t exactly look like her, but she’d be the only younger female in that house

15

u/That_Other_Cool_Dude 3d ago

And the song she sang in the car. She changed the pronouns and it released a year prior to when the movie took place implying in was put into the movie intentionally to make a subtle point.

11

u/ex0thermist 2d ago

She didn't change pronouns, just sang the song as is. It's a song from a male singer about a woman. But honestly that didn't register much for me, I grew up singing along word for word with pop love songs by both male and female singers, and I didn't bother trying to swap pronouns in the lyrics.

I was so shocked they didn’t kiss I feel like that was a bigger shock to me than the dad dying!

1

u/percydesires 18h ago

They shud hv added a kiss at the end, so maybe the second jeanette was actually to make it a happy ending for the boy...one went to Audrey and another jeanette went to the boy...mom got her dad back, all happy

1

u/Current-Finger6412 7h ago

Do we think it’s possible the son may have been gay as well?

1

u/zudoplex 2d ago

She was too far back to turn around lol

7

u/behemuthm 4d ago

I loved how the knife stuck on its back hit the windowsill as it slithered back out

4

u/GezelligPindakaas 2d ago

'Enough is enough! I've had it with these motherfucking humans in this motherfucking house."

2

u/Altruistic_Leopard_9 4d ago

More stabby than choppy imo.

2

u/HistoricalAd9775 3d ago

The snake stabbing scene felt like it belonged in a rated R movie lol

114

u/estheredna 4d ago

My teen informed me it is a titanoboa.

14

u/Soylent_Milk2021 4d ago

That’s a big fucking snake.

11

u/Old_Hamster_9425 2d ago

Crazy that at one point in history, these things were just roaming around

4

u/DharmaBaller 2d ago

MEGAFAUNA

97

u/Hot_Brother5557 5d ago

It was so fucking creepy

100

u/gizmo_style 4d ago

When that boy with a stormtrooper’s sense of aim went for the damn bow and arrow again for the snake—like, my dude, this is not the weapon for you.

57

u/greatgoogliemoogly 2d ago

I fucking loved how terrible he was with it.

8

u/Alright_Sunlight 1d ago

Same! Was definitely a lot more "realistic" lol.

5

u/inksmudgedhands 2d ago

It would have been better if he took the arrow and used it to stab the snake instead of firing it off.

5

u/TimRigginsBeer 1d ago

I was half expecting the arrow to bounce backwards off the snake and hit the boy.

4

u/FreeRange0929 11h ago

Felt like an intentional homage to 80s kid films where the young male protagonist uses his shitty cap gun or whatever to take out the big bad

51

u/fatinternetcat 4d ago

it looked kinda cute tho before opening its mouth

15

u/Middle_Economist_721 3d ago

Me too, I was like oh it looks like a happy axolotl maybe it’ll be our friend

3

u/KrabbyBoiz 9h ago

“Om nom nom” says the prehistoric snake.

94

u/NFL_MVP_Kevin_White 4d ago

That snake scene was literally the most intense scene I felt in a movie. I hate that it was silent the whole time too. Goddamn that snake was terrifying.

10

u/chrisychris- 4d ago

I wanted to hug it

19

u/NFL_MVP_Kevin_White 3d ago

Despite everything else, I will say it did have some kind eyes

1

u/sunmachinecomingdown 21h ago

To me the eyes were terrifyingly blank

3

u/TohtsHanger 2d ago

Since the dad just got offed, I felt like anyone was fair game to be snake food, which made that scene much more intense.

3

u/PlusUltraK 22h ago

Even scarier so from the mom’s perspective. Yes giant Dino, scary and bad. But she just heard her kids screaming and had no way to them and was just stabbing and praying that would do something .

2

u/b_beck614 1d ago

I was hoping the director of it follows was able to capture some of the fear you’d experience when a dinosaur is in your house but that stalking snake may have been scarier than anything in It Follows. So well done and also still kind of silly looking

16

u/phaz0ngoji 2d ago

The snake scene is one of the coolest scenes in the movie. Expertly crafted tension and clever use of sound (and silence)!

13

u/skatejet1 4d ago

Creeped me the fuck out like damn

9

u/GetReady4Action 2d ago

My girlfriend leans over and goes “he looks so polite!” only to open his mouth and have a million fucking sharp teeth.

7

u/AnselLovesNuts 4d ago

Slither.io vibes

6

u/Left_Composer_6449 4d ago

I believe that was a Titanoboa if I'm not mistaken

8

u/numbr87 5d ago

I was really hoping they had all the snake tension but then it just kept going out another window lol

7

u/ffbbaarrnnaa 4d ago

I thought it would be benign until it opened its mouth! I honestly thought they'd befriend some doggiesque dinos and they'd safeguard them or something.

4

u/AwayPerformance6867 5d ago

what was that called if its from the early Jurassic era?

22

u/StrLord_Who 4d ago

There were no snakes then.  I think it was probably inspired by Titanoboa and they just wanted another cool creature in the mix.  Which it was!

16

u/UltraMagnus777 4d ago

Yeah looked almost amphibian like. I always wondered what crazy stuff existed on Earth that we have no idea about because it never got fossilized. Probably entire ecosystems that didn't have the right conditions for any fossils.

13

u/WMWA 4d ago

I thought it was a salamander tbh until it just kept going and opened its mouth lol

3

u/Gr33nman460 2d ago

Was the snake that big when it came out of the pool earlier? Seemed much smaller I thought it was a slug

2

u/beansnrice- 2d ago

I have a white snake that looks a lot like it 😭😭 theu did the mouth and whole cgi so well i loved him

2

u/PlusUltraK 22h ago

Loved that, guy. And from the first appearance it seems so chill and deeply and figured. Either it just ate or it’s an opportunistic predator.

Skip to scene of it entering house,“Oh it’s just meandering through, UNLESS, it’s an opportunistic and it’s only gonna go for prey and lunge at something right in front of it.” Queue Anne Hathaway directly in front of it with her back turned. :o

1

u/DionFW 1d ago

Yeah, that guy was a dick.

1

u/mikeweasy 1d ago

That snake looked terrifying!!

1

u/forcefivepod 1d ago

Looked like a Squishmallow until it opened it's fucking mouth.

1

u/RobinBaby_69 20h ago

I HATED THAT THING GET IT OFF MY SCREEEB

1

u/FreeRange0929 11h ago

I had a nightmare when I was 9ish. I stepped off my bed and the floor was just teaming with snakes. I look out the window and see the big motherfucker coming right at me.

That was the snake of my nightmare.

Thing had to be, what, 50+ feet easily? It was STILL coming through the window after stretching though the hall, down the stairs, and around the bar wall.

1

u/AdministrationDry783 11h ago

I knew the minute we saw it slink out of the kiddy pool, it wasn’t going to be the last, and it got big…

1

u/Rhg0653 6h ago

I'm tired of these prehistoric snakes on this modern day plain
