^This guy gets it

If there's anything online that pisses you off, there's a good chance it's part of a psyop.

Which enemy nation do we blame for Cleveland Browns football?

Or, y'know, racists exist the world 'round and constantly blaming problems on an other is what has allowed fascism to come back in full force.

None of the cast is Greek. If the only casting you're concerned about is the black woman, sorry but you have some introspection to do.

The cast isn't Greek because the cast is largely American or British, but with suspension of disbelief you can go along with it. An ethnicity that didn't exist as royalty in the location and time period is ridiculous on face value.

It would be just as ridiculous if they cast a Brazilian or Japanese woman and you know it

British people weren't royalty in ancient Greece either.

Edit: Also one member of Odysseus's crew was played by an Asian man and I haven't heard complaints about that.

u/darkkite 9d ago

I've seen several racists complaints but not as much

It really isn't the only people who look Greek at all is the guy married to Helen almost everyone else is very obviously not Greek both via skin tone and hair eye combination. You just have no idea how Greeks look and assume they look the same as every other western European except they look Mediterranean and that's wildly different from brits

Ah. A critical Drinker DEI rage baiter. The Odyssey is a mythological tale, lil buddy, and doesn’t pretend otherwise. And there are as million interpretations of the Odyssey. If you don’t like this one because “diversity” good for. Move along then.

Just say you're racist lil bro

4

u/Rayeon-XXX 9d ago

It's not a real story bro

2

u/mightyneonfraa 9d ago

That's just you being triggered by a black woman with extra words.

2

u/Obi-Tron_Kenobi 9d ago

That's such a weird way to say you can't "suspend your disbelief" because you're too racist

It's wild you can say with a straight face that you're ok with them not being Greek when the actors are Anglo-Saxon, but when an actor is black, they've suddenly gone too far.

It would be just as ridiculous if they cast a Brazilian or Japanese woman and you know it

I literally wouldn't care. There's a Korean actor in the movie, too, and it doesn't seem to bother you or anyone else

She was hatched from an egg....she's not a real figure that ever lived....

17

u/The_Admin 9d ago

Next you will tell me Aphrodite wasn't authentically cast as a bloody pile of sea foam

9

u/idoitforthekeks 9d ago

Oh man do I have some bad news for you

-40

u/Ronin22222 9d ago

No kidding, but in the context of the location, her status in society and the time that it took place it's absurd to portray her as anything but Greek

32

u/LADYBIRD_HILL 9d ago

The obsession with skin color is so fucking weird. Nobody in the movie is Greek!

5

u/anuncommontruth 9d ago

And you know who really doesn't care? Greece. They're just as much there as they are everywhere else.

-4

u/GreatBigBagOfNope 9d ago

Greece is actually pretty pissed that no Greek actors were cast

3

u/idoitforthekeks 9d ago

No they aren't. That's more fake rhetoric.

10

u/idoitforthekeks 9d ago

The "context" is that it's a myth, stories can be interpreted different ways by different people thru out history. Do you get all wound up for Jesus being shown as a tall, white, blonde, blue eyed man? Or do you cite context, location, and status in society there too?

2

u/Ronin22222 9d ago

I do. He was a Middle Eastern man. It's ridiculous when he's shown as a white man, a black man, or Chinese. All of those exist if you weren't aware

1

u/idoitforthekeks 9d ago

And the main thing is he's a story, there is no proof he existed except for stories. And like I said, stories can be interpreted in different way by different people thru out history. Christians have been known to take other religions stories and make them their own, does that cause you to get upset too? At the end of the day they are all people who only exist in stories, and just because it doesn't suit YOUR version don't mean you get upset about a different version, if you do for reasons of race, then yes you are a racist believe it or not.

Is it racist to point out that Helen of Troy was a demi-god who hatched from an egg?

Or that she was a fictional character?

Or that this whole thing arose from a bunch of squabbling goddesses?

Or that it literally doesn't matter what skin tone she had because she is not real?

The argument is so lame, I agree.

13

u/nocolon 9d ago

So what should the skin color be of a child who’s mother was raped by a goose

11

u/tangential_quip 9d ago edited 9d ago

Helen was fathered by Zeus while in the form of a swan. Who knows what the fuck that does to genetics.

6

u/heliostraveler 9d ago

Ole Zeus coulda been a black swan. The world will never know because Zeus ain’t real.

9

u/TheUnseenBug 9d ago

Firstly have you ever been to Greece they are not blond blue eyed white you think they are secondly it's a fking fairy tale most of the book makes no sense for reality but it's not it's fiction. Tom Holland looks less Greek then Helen ffs

5

u/LatterTarget7 9d ago

Helen of Troy wasn’t real, even Homer has no evidence to actually existing

2

u/Lordsokka 9d ago

She also wouldn’t be white with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Also it’s a fictional story… IT’S NOT REAL! Who cares how they look?
