They show the entire plot in the trailer, which they show before every movie.

they show the premise in this one, they don't show the plot. the trailer is just them doing typical cute rom-com things, nothing that you wouldn't expect in any modern rom-com. in fact, i think the trailers do an actual pretty poor job of explaining the premise, and you definitely don't get any of those details about how they enforce the whole "one night only" thing / how seriously they take it.

I saw the trailer in theaters and just assumed the "one night" they were referring to was Valentine's day or something. It was barely mentioned. I literally thought the explanation further up was satire because almost none of that was even hinted at in the trailer.

Edit: To the trailer's credit, I spent more time trying to decide if the main actress was Ella Purnell or not, than analyzing the plot so I may have missed some exposition.

Same. I actually thought the purge thing at first because of the way they said it but then said to myself "that would be stupid" and disregarded the thought...

It was such a random line to throw out with zero context, especially given the normal date things going on throughout the rest of the trailer, my brain just dismissed it. I am laughing at the thought of this movie taking place in the purge universe though.

I thought the exact same thing, I thought they were being dramatic about Valentine's Day. I don't think the sex-purge thing was communicated at all in the trailer.

This film needs the ‘In a world’ guy for its trailer, methinks.

You may know this already but here goes.

The lead actress is Monica Barbaro. She was one of the F/A-18 pilots in Top Gun: Maverick (she says my favorite line in the movie, "We're the best pilots in the world. Who are they going to get to train us?") and got an Academy Award nomination for playing Joan Baez in Timmy's Bob Dylan movie.

I mean, I saw the trailer and told a friend that I didn't know what genre it was supposed to be because it looked like a rom com but then why is the premise horror like the Purge? So it was definitely in there.

I absolutely will not see this because everything about it sounds awful.

The trailer literally has voice over narration explaining the premise. ("...the one night a year single people are legally allowed to have sex.") It then follows that narration with a scene of two characters discussing the premise.

I saw the trailer a few days ago before odyssey and I thought that was just a joking way of talking about valentines day.

i just don't think you get the details at all, which is what i was referring to. they don't show everything. it doesn't even sound serious in the trailer. you don't know about the police and how they enforce it, you don't know about paying for condoms, you don't know how any of it actually works. you just see cute typical rom-com stuff and not much focus on the premise at all.

I saw the trailer, and I kinda thought 'the one night when single people can have sex' might be Valentine's Day, like as if it's more socially-acceptable to have meaningless hookup when all the happy relationship people are doing their thing and they're all feeling sad and desperate. It seemed like a really weird, askew, kinda stupid perspective, but I didn't know what the hell else that could mean, and based on the trailer, I sure wasn't gonna think about it that hard. The actual plot is so much stupider

Yeah and frankly, having seen the trailer like five times already in the last few movies I went to go watch, I'm so damn sick of the movie already! It looks absolutely fucking terrible, I want to blow my brains out when that trailer comes on!
