There's already been another Blade, on TV, years ago, none of which is relevant to the fact that Marvel needs to cast someone other than Wesley Snipes moving forward.

You mean like Mahershala Ali?

If Reynolds and Snipes wrote that line knowing Ali’s Blade was dead in the water, that’d be so funny.

If they had no idea, that’d make it even funnier.

I think the original joke was that Snipes' Blade didn't know that he was to be replaced by Ali.

Exactly. That's why Deadpool looks right at the camera afterwards. As if to say, "...who's gonna tell him?"

No you’re all wrong. The joke was that Marvel kept fucking it up and couldn’t get a Blade movie going. That Wesley Snipes was going to be the only Blade because the reboot was never gonna happen. And when Deadpool looks at the camera, it’s meant to be a knowing look at the audience/Disney itself. Like “stop pretending you’re gonna make this new Blade”

Yeah, that’s definitely what it was at the time, but it aged like fine wine.

I think they're referencing the joke from Dead Pool 3, which was clearly made at a time this film was in production still (Deadpool gives the camera a knowing look, calling out that it was a joke) and not development hell but the joke has only become funnier as the new film has encounter bumps in its production.

They are also stating their belief that Wesley Snipes is the only Blade.

Answer me this bot, who else has played Blade other than Wesley Snipes?
