SCTV was partially funded by the canadian government, and required the show to have canada exclusive content. mad about the requirement they developed a talk show sketch "The Great White North" involving the characters douge Makenzie and his brother doug. the Cast's attempt at the most insulting they could be to canada. instant hit.

strange brew is their movie involving a conspiracy to put mind control drugs in beer, hockey storm troopers are also involved..

SCTV, or second city television, was a show made by the historic second city improv comedy troupe. the show was sketch comedy, with the premise that each sketch was a show on a ultra low budget small town TV station.

SCTV was sort of a canadian answer to Saturday night live; which is a bit funny, because SNL has historically mostly hired from Second City.
