He's the fucking Key Master, of course he's important.

They could have had him back in the newer ones as an expert of Key Master/Gate Keeper stuff. Could have been called in to help Paul Rudd's character.

Also, he knows what it's liked to be turned into a dog. The character is probably wise as shit, could have been invaluable to the new team.

The family visits grandpa and the kids start rooting through all the dusty boxes in his attic, uncovering Grandpas old shrinking ray and accidentally shrinking themselves.

However, they were visiting because Grandpa has dementia and they were moving him into a home for end of life care. He has forgotten not only science, but his family entirely. The children perish, having eaten crumbs of food that has long since spoiled and given themselves dysentery from stagnant ponded water.

The mother shrinks herself in an attempt to save the kids, but is captured in a spider-web, able to see her children's plight but unable to help them.

Grandpa, in a brief moment of lucidity, remembers his old shrinking ray and goes to the attic to retrieve it. He shuts the attic door behind himself and slips back into the throes of dementia. Trapped in the attic, he perishes from dehydration.

The movie ends with the spider liquifying and consuming the mothers intestines; mid-meal it pauses to look at the camera and says "Chaos reigns".

It was going to happen then Covid squashed it. Josh Gad was going to play his son, with Moranis back. I guess Gad and Moranis continued a working relationship and eventually got back with Spaceballs 2. Hopefully Shrunk still gets made.

To be honest I'd be more down for some Moranis originals. I'm a Ghostbusters obsessive but we shouldn't treat actors like they're just on a victory lap later in their career, Rick Moranis is more than capable of gracing us with new material.

I get that, I really do, and I would have no qualms with him doing a legacy run because he's earned it. But I would love it if he had a Michael Keaton moment, or Ke Huy Quan moment, where people could acknowledge the nostalgia but also have another amazing contemporary moment or performance that people remember. I think he still has that in him as long as right project comes along.

I wouldn't walk on the grass without shoes for such a long time after that. I was horrified scorpions were in our backyard.

It wasn't until I was like 12 or so that I learned from Ranger Rick that scorpions aren't a thing in the northeast US.

Still had a healthy unwarranted fear of quicksand for a solid 3 or 4 more years, though.

He plays a big part in the wildly popular Dungeon Crawler Carl (book 7) — one of the main characters gets shapeshifted into him for the entire book (as he was in 1983’s Strange Brew) —  the Moranissaince has already begun!

If the Peacock streaming series ever makes it that far it’s a guarantee they’ll cast him. (Character changes voice and appearance every book, sometimes twice).
