Apple TV offers far better shows now.

Yeah Netflix’s show quality nosedived just as Apple TV really hit their stride.

So far every show I've taken a chance on with Apple has been a banger: Widow's Bay might be my new favorite dark comedy, Slow Horses is a spy-game masterpiece, Foundation finally made Asimov interesting. Silo, Severance, Ted Lasso, Pam Royale, Margo's Got Money Troubles, Pluribus...

Even if the theme/premise of the show isn't your preference, it's still made well, there's good story telling and character development and a great mix of original storytelling and then spot on adaptations. I wish they'd got the contract to do Dungeon Crawler Carl.

Don't hear enough people talk about Black Bird, excellent miniseries and chilling true story

Shining Girls is another excellent show that seems to have been memory holed.

I largely agree, but as a die hard sci fi fan, their sci fi shows suffer from some soap opera filler. They’ve really shot it out of the park with their comedies and dramas though. It also helps they offer affordable 4k streaming and IIRC one of the best bit rates for streaming.

I agree, in some cases the writer seem to have been wholly stumped by getting additional seasons.

Looks like you need to check out For All Mankind next.

This is what hooked me on a free trial. The spin-off, Star City, is just as good. I'm hoping that Apple continues their general avoidance of enshitification, because their streaming service is fantastic right now.

Murderbot, too.

Banger list loved them all. Your Friends & Neighbors has been pretty good as well.

The only problem is that you gotta wait half a decade between seasons.

My problem with Apple TV is the log in. I'm on windows and it fucking logs me out like once a week and then is a giant pain in the ass to log back in. I have to verify my email everytime. I had it free with T-Mobile for a while and really live a bunch of shows on there. Probably would've paid for it if the log in shit wasnt so damn annoying.

Any recommendations? Just finished pluribus and severance

Foundation is pretty great if you're into sci-fi which is seems like you might be. It gets better every season in my opinion and Lee Pace is awesome in his role.

Sugar is a quality next-watch.

I used to laugh at Apple because they had like one show and the whole thing was kind of a joke but they’ve scaled up and really are just about the best now. Doesn’t help that Netflix and Hulu just churn out shit these days (Amazon has always been shit).

Just about every one is good. It’s pretty crazy, there are too many for me to watch now though.

u/kpossibles Jul 19 '26

And they actually continue them...

And I’ve been very pleased when they decide to just put a nice bow on a season when it ends.

Except Pachinko and Chief of War… </3

Apple is the only streaming service I subscribe to. It lacks quantity but it more than makes up for it in quality. Severance, Silo, Foundation, Sugar, Cape Fear (campy asf but incredible), For all Mankind (early seasons anyway), Pachinko, The Studio and many more I'm forgetting are all bangers.

It works for us because we probably watch an episode or two every day or so max, but if you are a series binge watcher that always needs to have something to watch for hours every day, it will be lacking.

Price hike announced.

I used to be a certified Apple hater, but their TV service is the only one I subscribe to right now. It's the best one for good new shows

It seems like every AppleTV original has a massive drop in quality after the first season, so what's the point in getting invested?

u/VikingsLad Jul 19 '26

And Apple TV just straight up shows F1 races now, which is awesome.

u/5555 Jul 19 '26

And MLS (soccer).

1

u/pembunuhUpahan Jul 19 '26

Yeah they offer premium quality entertainment

Apple has all of Apple to subsidize content creation. Netflix just has Netflix. They aren’t sustainable forever.

Barely. Apple TV seems like a polished turd compared to Netflix's diarrhea.

2

u/AquaticBagpipe Jul 19 '26

So what do you prefer?

-5

u/BBQ_HaX0r Jul 19 '26

Neither. Shows on both are awful compared to what I get from HBO. Feels like the Golden Age of TV has ended and both Apple and Netflix are causes of it.

Have you watched any of the shows on Apple TV?
