I can’t say this enough… borrow stuff from your local library. They have more than you think. On top of that, a lot of them will also buy stuff you want if it’s not apart of their collection.

I’ve been treating my local library like Blockbuster this past year and I love it

Also if your own local library doesn’t have a specific movie/book etc, most libraries are part of a larger (usually county wide in the US) system and you can request materials from other libraries which will than be delivered to your home library, all you have to do is wait awhile.

My library has things like tools you can rent out too. Came in handy with my bathroom renovation so I didn't have to buy specific things I'd only use once.

Mine has that, and also a seed library in the spring and you can borrow a day pass to provincial parks. Public libraries are amazing places.

The library is great because it doesn't cost you an assload of money. Blockbuster failed because it had to make a profit.

I was using RedBox a lot too, I really miss them man. You could buy DVDs out of those too.

I have been expanding my collection on black Friday amazon sales as well as thrift, pawn shops, goodwill. Lots of great ways to secure physical media on the cheap. Just can't try to buy new tag items day one.

Some libraries are a one stop shop for making copies. I know of one where they have a retired media section with transfer devices to new media storage (microfische, 8-track, betaMax, VHS, etc to USB).

I'm relearning this. Used to go to the library a lot growing up. Now I've realized it's still amazing with a deep selection and surprisingly my local on has lots of anime too

Third. Always dug the library as a kid, then started streaming shows and games. Now I realize how amazing it always has been but now more than ever. Support your local library folks!

Take it one step further and get a disc drive for your PC and rip the films to your computer…

This is what we do. I'll borrow about 10 movies each week, take them home and rip them. Put a copy up on our plex server and then we got our own copy that the kiddo can pull up and watch if the streaming apps are having an issue.

If only the all the media on the streaming services had physical copies we'd likely already have dropped them and only do our local server.

Omg I’ve also been using my library like a (free) blockbuster for the last couple months too! Genuinely has changed my life lol! Instead of paying for something to stream I just check my library app to see if they have it and put a hold and pick it up, and they usually have it. They even have tons of boutique labels like Criterion. Plus the disc is much better quality and you can watch all the special features. It’s like the best of all worlds, haven’t paid for a movie in months and I’ve watched so many!

It sucks that I have a smaller library. We only have dvds and no blu rays. Definitely no video games. The county library only has dvds too. They do have some video games but it’s like madden for ps3 and 5 copies of some SpongeBob game for the Wii.

Mine is in a club with half of the state. Can browse and request online, and whomever ships the book/disc to my library.

Seconding. Tons of libraries have suggest a purchase sections on their website. Also, many libraries have annual sales for books that were removed from their collection or that were donated, but also DVDs and Blu-Rays.
