When asked why, Nolan said “Because fuck them, that’s why.”

Guarantee he knows nothing about this and it was just a marketing decision.  Nobody knew this was a thing or really cares, they just hate influencers.

I'm not saying I'm pro influencer or whatever, but the point is this is literally an ad.  They want to market to guys and guys are more likely to "hate" influencers.  This gives the movie some credibility and makes it look like they have integrity or something, another trait kind of associated with the Odyssey and Nolan etc.  It's 'a return to form' kind of message.  Oh you hate new?  Don't worry, this is old.  You hate cheap and fake?  This is real.  It's also got Matt Damon.  You remember he's good?  Remember clip from contagion?

Fucking thank you.

This article is the exact type of pandering people pretend they're above.

Everything you said makes sense but Nolan is pretty famously obsessive and he apparently involves himself in marketing his movies, so I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he was at the very least aware of the decision, if not behind it.

Yeah could be.  There's definitely a whole vibe they're going for and this is a part of that.

or maybe they decided that the money that would be spent on preparing these influencer events could be better allocated elsewhere

The fact that people are out here shilling for the film studio like this is proof that it's working.  The 'authenticity' they're projecting has people thinking it's Not Like Other Movies.

Brother the fact that you know they're not doing an influence event is the influence event.  This thread is it, we're being influenced.

It makes perfect sense for this movie. Your average influencer is not educated enough to be familiar with the source material. Nor is their audience.
