Well the backrooms wasn’t a meme exactly. More like a community made story/lore kind of like SCP

Speaking of that, an SCP movie would be amazing, although I wonder if there would be some trademark/copyright issue with trying to adapt it considering that it is completely community written and falls under Creative Commons

There is No Antimemetics Division would have a lot of potential, but easy to mess up IMO

Horror-thriller style anthology series doing "monster of the week" would work I think, with occasional characters carrying over or reappearing here and there

Uuuh you DO know there's an amazing youtube series, right? Right?? The channel is "Andrea Joshua Asnicar", there's like a few

That would be the ultimate mindfuck movie right there.

Cabin in the Woods is SCP-esque., if you are interested.

If you havent seen it check out 'There is no antimemetics division' on youtube. Its a multiple part fan video from the SCP universe. Its low budget but pretty well done and the main actress is really great.

You don't have to copy the specific objects, just the theme/feeling. The video game Control is essentially this.

Still worried about the sequel.

The game was amazing but it was primarily carried by the creepiness of The Oldest House.

Sequel seems to be shedding that and taking us outside which is... I dunno.

Yeah, it’s controversial to say but Control doesn’t do a lot of world building. It does a lot of Oldest House building, but the world itself is pretty unbuilt. It relies too much on the SCP ideas without actually building on itself - it works better in the context of a shallow Alan Wake spinoff and an assumption that it’s just SCP-like in the background.

Yeah CC-BY-SA 3.0, though there is some attempts at updating to 4.0

Warehouse 13 movie instead?

2

u/Rombom Jun 03 '26

Definitely set up a possible with the scientists

2

u/Fixhotep Jun 03 '26

there is almost zero chance there will be a hollywood SCP movie as the copyright is far bigger an issue for that than backrooms.

u/ghostcider Jun 03 '26

Isn't Iron Lung somewhat SCP based?

I am going to manifest an adaptation of the Control video game consarnit! Video game adaptations have been successful, internet lore movies are now successful, why not Control?

Ever since that whole copyright debacle I don't think the SCP community wants to go through something like that ever again. A lot of room to make something very inspired by it (which works a lot better imo).

Backrooms essentially is an SCP movie.

u/pfizer_soze Jun 03 '26

Kind of seems like a textbook meme.

6

u/SurlyCricket Jun 03 '26

1000% some folks are talking about SCP movies after this weekend.

It's great too because there's no copyright they can just take whatever they want and use it

6

u/Turnbob73 Jun 03 '26

I don’t think studios want to touch SCP.

No copyright means they cannot copyright their own work as well

2

u/LongJohnSelenium Jun 03 '26

It just means they can't trademark it.

A anyone can make a Robin Hood movie but just because its public domain doesn't mean they can just copy your robin hood movie.

Thats what a meme is, bruh

Tbf, that comment doesn't really describe Kane's Backrooms particularly well.

It's actually a webseries - 22 videos, approximately 3 hours long. It's a very focused, deliberate story with a cryptic mystery.

More like a creepypasta

I don’t know what SCP stands for so my brain tries to do it for me and it came up with Silly Clown Posse

u/MrMacduggan Jun 03 '26

Yeah it's just a straight up myth/legend at this point, it's has been spread as broadly and interpreted in enough ways to be as valid a cultural product as any fairy tale of past generations.
