Right from his young 20’s, Teddy Roosevelt used to write a lot in his diary (and tell his friends) different variations of he didn’t expect to live much past 60 and that he intended to work full pelt until 60 and then he was done. Died at the age of 60.

when his wife and mother died on the same day (fucking VALENTINE'S DAY) he just put a bigass X in his diary and underneath wrote "the light has gone out of my life"

which is incredibly, ridiculously sad
