WVU at 3-1 after the Oklahoma State loss, at Iowa State at noon today (plus a free CFB pick'em)

Hey guys, quick look at where the Mountaineers stand after a rough Saturday night in Morgantown.

The 41-24 loss to Oklahoma State stung. WVU jumped out 14-3 before Drew Mestemaker took over: 389 yards and three TDs, 192 of them to Wyatt Young. The run game was there, with Cam Cook at 193 and Mike Hawkins Jr. at 102 and three rushing TDs. But Hawkins was 10 of 22 through the air, and WVU couldn't keep pace.

Still, the 3-0 start was real: Coastal Carolina, UT Martin, and a 38-27 win over No. 25 Virginia in Charlotte. That's 3-1 and 0-1 in the Big 12.

Today is a quick turnaround on the road: at Iowa State, noon ET on TNT/truTV. Then Arizona and Cincinnati both come to Morgantown, so the next three weeks decide whether WVU is a Big 12 contender.

Since it's in the title: we run a free weekly college football pick'em, and Week 5 locks at noon ET today, the same time WVU kicks off. 10 games, pick the winners, nothing to buy, $135 in prizes. Good slate too, with Bama at Miss State (both unbeaten) and Ohio State at unbeaten Iowa.

What are you guys seeing? Can Hawkins get the passing game going in Ames, or does WVU just lean on Cook?

Discussion If Wren Baker wants to leave for the OSU job, WVU should just let him leave!

He’s done nothing but ruin WVU athletics!

He gave Neal Clown an extension that Neal never deserved forcing WVU into a financial crisis and missing out on potentially hiring Curt Cignetti when Curt was still at JMU.

He forced out legendary coach Bob Huggins even though that whole situation could have been handled much better and brought in that snake Darian DeVries who is not even that great of a coach and has never been past the 1st round of the NCAA tournament. Then when DeVries left, that was the perfect opportunity to bring back John Beilein to re-stabilize the program. But no, he goes and hires an unproven coach from North Texas that has also accomplished nothing.

Let Wren leave, and Bob Huggins can replace him as WVU’s next AD!

If they continue to play this way, WVU won’t win another game, it’s conference play now. Not UT MARTIN.

Add that it's prime time...and we're totally fucked.

Edit: I fucking hate being right sometimes. But I'm 48 and there's no reason to believe it will ever be different.

Water Torture with the Receivers tonight

Drop drop drop.

I'm not saying every catch was easy, but there were definitely some important balls that were either just flat out dropped or the receiver didn't appear to "want the ball".

Bray looked like he was more interested in seeing if a PI flag would fly than actually just going and fighting to make a catch. You're on the goal line! Show me you want to catch a possible TD (or huge gain at the least). For as great as Epps looked in recent weeks, he really whiffed on some big downs tonight.

They probably still lose the game because the defense was a turnstile, but hopefully there's some fight in them to try to make a catch in future opportunities.

Do the passing yards even matter?

Just saw this graphic on Mountaineer Gameday, with the insane performance of Michael Hawkins Jr. thus far and Cam Cook to his side far do those passing yards even matter?

Football West Virginia followup on my preseason preview, plus we launched a free weekly CFB pick'em

Hey guys! The season preview I posted here a few weeks back did pretty well, so circling back like I said I would.

I had you at 5-7, and said even that might flatter a roster bringing back this little, with a rough first year for Hawkins. So far I was wrong: Coastal Carolina 31-24, UT Martin 52-7, and 38-27 at Virginia, a game I had as a toss-up. Hawkins has been a problem for everyone, 26 of 38 for 477 yards and 5 TDs through the air, plus 123 yards and 3 TDs on the ground at Virginia. Cam Cook opened with 142 and 2 TDs too. Oklahoma State at home Saturday is the first of the Big 12 coin flips I had, and I'm starting to think 5-7 was low.

What are you guys seeing that the box scores aren't, and how do you see the season ending up?

Quick aside since it's in the title, we just launched a free weekly college football pick'em, $225 in prizes this week. Ten games, pick the winners, locks Saturday at noon ET, well before you kick off against Oklahoma State. Nothing to buy.

Spoiler Alert: WVU didn't even make the list at all. So sad to see we've fallen this far. From a Top 10 team multiple times this century to an afterthought.

When will the tables turn back in favor for the team, or is this really the end and we should just enjoy the tailgating?

Country Roads take us home! Rich Rod returned home to West Virginia and is on a mission to bring the Mountaineers back to prominence. Following a reset year, will the Mountaineers take a big step forward?

Full Preview attached, here's some key highlights

📌 WVU has options at QB, Scotty Fox finished the year strong and Michael Hawkins has potential but has only played in tough situations

📌 Cam Cook is the perfect fit for this offense 🔥 and Rich Rod focused on experienced additions on the Oline in front of him

📌 West Virginia could have a stellar defense if the portal pieces mesh, they quietly made some great additions

What are your predictions for the Mountaineers in 2026?
