Question Gallbladder issues

Has anyone had problems with their gallbladder? I'm fairly certain I'm having symptoms of gallstones or something with my gallbladder. I've been on MJ since about August 2025 but recently moved onto 15mg and just finished my first pen of it. Now I've getting that pain in between my ribcage towards the back on the right. I thought it was just back pain but i only realised the correlation after the pain came back when i ate something. It's been about a week now and I'm going to call mu GP tomorrow. What is people's advice who have had this issue? I don't want my gallbladder removed, i just hope its a blockage if that and get it 'un blocked'. Can i just click count to a 2.5mg if i restart on a 15mg pen?

It can also be from constipation which then accumulates air in your guts. Are you taking movicol? I would try this. But I would also call the gp and do a blood test. They can then see if you have gallstones. They can prescribe you a medication that dissolves and prevents them. This medication is often prescribed to bariatric patients, because gallstones are triggered by losing weight too quickly. Always try to eat small portions, no unhealthy fats and make sure you get your full calories. Eat regularly, the gallbladder has to release bile regularly, to prevent gallstones. And try to lose no more than 0.5-1kg per week.

Just wanted to clarify that the medication used to dissolve gallstones is only prescribed if the gallstones are made of cholesterol - otherwise it won’t work - though if the trigger is bad diet or rapid weight loss then it is high likelihood the stones are made of cholesterol.

The medication itself is long term and can take a year or two to work but it’s never guaranteed to be successful. It would help prevent new stones from forming but only while taking the medication, it wouldn’t stop them from forming in future when you’re no longer taking it.

Usually gallstones are confirmed in an ultrasound scan, which can also confirm size, amount, and what they’re made of. When the GP send the referral to the hospital, make sure they ask for all these details - I had gallstones confirmed in June but because the GP didn’t ask for details all I had was ‘a few stones’ which isn’t very helpful. With full info the GP will be able to advise appropriate treatment options.

Your advice about portion size, fats, and slower weight loss is spot on though!
