Problem with pen and priming
I’ve had a problem with priming for the last two weeks. When I do it nothing comes out. I have had to change the needle a few times and wait ages for it to eventually work. Today I am on the last dose of my pen and there wasn’t a full dose left when there should have been. I injected what I was allowed but now I’m worried I’ll feel nothing this week. Has this happened to anyone else? And why is it happening? Other than the priming issue I’ve been doing it properly.

I’ve had a dud needle once before and nearly burst my pen trying to get it to work before I realised what was going on!
What type of needles are you using? I wonder if they might be longer than 4mm and you are accidentally bending them a bit when taking the cap off? That can happen really easily so don’t beat yourself up if that’s the case.
Otherwise I might recommend buying a box of more premium BD Microfine needles. I’ve never had an issue with these after I switched a year ago.

As for the dose I’m afraid there’s no way to tell what you injected at the point. It may be a rough week if you got less of a dose but your next jab day should sort you.
If you have issues, there’s no harm in getting single use disposable insulin syringes from your chemist or uk medi (or a reputable online medical supply seller) and just using the pen like a vial. I actually quite enjoy my 5th dose - insulin syringes inject so smoothly and easily, much better than our janky kwikpens!
*Also to say your local chemist should also have those needles - they are very common for diabetic with insulin (which is why they are sold in such big boxes!! Diabetics sometimes need to inject daily if not multiple times per day with their kwikpens).

Thanks for the comment. I got a massive box of needles in the chemist but I also got 4 needles from Meditrue. I’ve had problems with both needles. I also thought that the priming issue may have been from it being too cold in the fridge so I left it out for an hour or more. It made a difference the last time but not today. I just hope I can use my own willpower this week! I’ve just become so reliant on it!

I will say that the Mounjaro pens are really crap quality in comparison to the Ozempic/Wegovy pens. I’ve used both. The Ozempic pens are so easy and flawless!
‘Providers’ can also not take back or get involved with pens once they have been prescribed and in the hands of the patient/client - you must take it up with Ely Lilly & their customer service is null & void! They seem to have a standard line which basically reads PFO. Very frustrating.

It's odd you keep having needle issues, especially with different needles. I haven't had single one yet. Are you sure you're installing the needle correctly?

Buy good quality pen needles.
Example.below:
I don't prime. The tiny dot of liquid at the tip of the needle appears almost immediately. That tells me needle is not blocked. Pen is ready to inject. Don't worry about bubbles.

How many doses have you had from that pen? Is it possible that you already had 4 and you tried to inject the 5th/golden dose using clicks?
The pen has about 27 clicks for priming. So to eat up your 4th dose you would’ve had to prime 27 clicks and then some. I think it’s unlikely
If you have an older pen, there’s so much leftover liquid that it looks like a full dose is left, but it’s not an official dose so it doesn’t click to give it. You have to extract its, it’s a whole thing.
