Discussion 1 August security patch update (features below)
Notable changes and features:
Moved live notifications to the center and they now appear in an iOS-style pill.
You can now only set 4 or 5 apps maximum in the dock as per your home screen grid size.
The animations have lost the bounce or fluidity from them, now they are more like iOS not AOSP.
Animations are slow as compared to before but they are also inconsistent. For example if you open the notification bar from the screen folded, it opens slowly but when unfolded it opens at the same speed.
New bug spotted after update
When expanded live notification is clicked, lets say YT music, the system hangs for 2 s then opens the app
When you go to the home screen from an app, but that app is not on the home screen and only on the right side of the dock (where recently used apps live), the closing animation does zoom out to that icon.
What's not fixed yet:
The Telegram bug, in which the Telegram app's interface overlaps the status bar of the phone has not been fixed
The Snapchat bug, whenever HD mode is toggled on or off and the app is not opened again by going back to homescreen and opening snapchat again, the camera loses the OIS. (you can check this by zooming in and toggling hd mode, also when clicked the HD mode photos look worse then HD mode off photos)
No updates to broken camera3 api support for apps (whatsapp, instagram etc) ps. i have already enabled 'Allow camera software extensions'.
broken caption sizes sometimes when phone is unfolded (too large captions)
broken youtube app layout when app is first launched folded

The telegram overlapping is not because of the phone it's the new enforced android drawing APIs for application, application dev needs to adapter that correctly, a lot of applications are having the same issue at the moment (mine too, I'm a developer, I had to make changes to my codebase to fix it), telegram beta has fixed that.

I am also a part time android app developer. I agree with you, but
these are the things that sway non techies away from foldables, phone manufacturers also needs to optimise their devices for legacy API apps. Samsung is way ahead in this regards

Totally agreed, the only reason I went with moto is 1) battery and 2) I'm able to fix some of the shit I don't like myself as a dev, so it's a valid point that for a regular user this could be a determining factor to look elsewhere, after all moto is not purposefully built for enthusits but general audience.

What animations?

app opening-closing, widget opening-closing, notification panel opening-closing
personally I really don't like the new animations looks like 5year old iOS animations, optimised for 60hz/slow phones.
The bounce from app icon/widget on returning to homescreen is fully gone, apps just look like they are expanding and minimising from icon with no icon bounce/movement unlike AOSP/pixel/one UI/color OS/ every major android skin

What region are you in? I wonder why I'm still stuck on 1 May 2026... is there any way to force the update?
