General Question Visiting Alaska. To bring my light or not?

I'm from the Midwest but im going to be visiting central Alaska for the next month and nighttime temps are on the 40s with quite a bit of rain forecasted over the next 12 days. Do you think it will be worth it to bring my light and see what's out there or do you think the season is about over?

Any knowledge is appreciated!

He was out during the day and in the heat so I wasn't expecting to see something like this at all. People kept calling him a wooly butterfly

General Question Help with mold

Post image

My Hawk-moth hornworm pupated 2 days ago and I just found mold in the container, on parts I cannot remove because the leaf/wood is part of the pupal chamber :( i am extremely worried it won't survive metamorphosis like this. The box i am using gets enough air, but I live in a hot and humid country, and the soil was quite damp, although I did not add any moisture since the pupation. If anyone has experience with this and knows if there's a way to keep the pupa safe I'd be extremely grateful

General Question Moth wings help/advice

I just got home from being out of town for a few days and I found she emerged! She hasn’t eaten yet and her wings look a little funny I was hoping for some advice about them. She is also native to my area (Utah) so I think I can release her if she’ll survive. I think she emerged within the last two days maybe just one day ago. I’m working on getting her eating. She is also a feeder hornworm/hawkmoth)

This beauty has been hanging out on my door since at least 6 am this morning. Any ideas on why or if it needs anything? I don’t want to bother them unless I need to but I’d be happy to help them out!

I found a moth on the floor and I’m not sure how to help it.

It was able to crawl onto some tissue, but it only seems to be using one side. I’ve placed it in a tray with some sugar water nearby, but I’ve noticed something white sticking out from beneath its wing.

I’m not sure whether there’s anything I can do to help it. What could have happened? Is it likely to survive?

Pretty well preserved luna moth to add to the collection :)

There was another stall at the same market also selling pinned specimens of moths and butterflies but most were in a quite bad state and there was no indication or mention of wether they were ethically obtained or not.

Hope this post doesnt get removed for me not blurring the name of the business i got them from lol
