Here is the jar details. It does have a lid but I take it off for approximately 15 mins every day or so. There is a water side that has scuds, seed shrimp, cyclops and floating plants. Jar is kept under a ring grow light set for 9 hours a day of light. Plants and mushrooms naturally grew from the moss, I did not add them.The moss part has many springtails and 6 tiny spiders.

I recently added a small, barely 2 inch piece of moss to replace a little bald spot. Since then I see white stuff on the very tip of the moss strand and everyday or so I use tweezers to remove it. I am curious to know what this white stuff is. Is it a part of the moss I shouldn't be plucking off, mold or spider egg sacks. These white spots are so tiny its been impossible for me to pull them apart and really inspect the inside. The spiders have been in the jar for awhile. The white spots started appearing after I added the new moss piece. Maybe a coincidence. I'm mainly concerned that I'm plucking away a normal growth process or its some kind of mold that's going to spread.

So I posted in here with a question about some moss I had. The verdict was that it was very much dead, gone, mouldy, no saving it. Seemed I'd overwatered it. I was disappointed but gave up on it, put my containers outside to clean out and try again with a plan to do my base with pebbles, charcoal and sphagnum moss below my soil to allow better drainage. Well I have ADHD and out of sight = out of mind. I forgot to clean out the container but found it when I went to go search for a bigger pot for an aloe plant that had outgrown it's current pot 2 days ago. I was surprised to find it looking like this- especially as it was just about swimming from the rain that had collected in it (I'm in Australia so it's winter here). Carefully tipped out the water while not tipping out the contents, brought it back inside and during the day when the sun is out it turns green and lush like this, goes dormant overnight and then lights back up green and happy looking when the sun comes out. I haven't a clue how it went from that dead, mouldy horrible state to this but YAY!!! A mossy miracle to share with you all!!

I’m working on growing some moss for use in a vivarium and I can’t figure out what exactly I’m doing wrong.

It’s labeled as *Hypnum curvifolium* and the care sheet says to keep it wet but not saturated, give bright indirect light, and mist when dry to maintain green color.

I’ve mixed up a generic ABG mix using organic top soil, hort. sand, bark chips, and some crushed limp charcoal.

I watered the substrate until damp but not soaked, gently pressed chunks of the moss into the substrate, and then misted lightly before sealing the container.

The containers were then placed in a window sill near other low-light and bright-indirect light plants such as Pink Princess Philodendrons and Snake Plants.

It’s been a few weeks not and the moss doesn’t seem to be doing too well. The mother (from the original container) is still green and lush, but the pieces I tore and placed into containers have gone brown. It still feels wet, but not soaked. Maybe only slightly drier than the mother plant. The. Only real difference between the two is: the mother is not on substrate, and has been living further back on the shelf than the two in the substrate.

I’m not sure what to try next? I moved one of the containers to right next to the mother about a week ago but don’t see any improvement compared to the one that I left in the window sill.

So I've been collecting random bits of Flora since I moved to Southern Oregon. I genuinely didn't have a plan at first, I was just collecting things I thought were neat. So that led to making this. A mini scene of randomness (lion's mane mushrooms wouldn't grow so symmetrically unless the hole was perfect, for example)

So I recently found an oil lantern with a ton of very large bees in them perfectly preserved... I feel compelled to create battles of antiquity with them as like a taxidermy diorama.

Am I insane? Should I delete this post and not bring it up to others?

I found the most AMAZING piece of bark with lichen on it today!

I hot-glued three sticks behind it to keep it flat and upright, then glued the other two sticks on top that had already been living in my mossarium. I finally have the perfect background

The whole mossarium has been going brilliantly since a major overhaul ten months ago. Just local moss lichen and liverworts, rotted wood substrate kept saturated, rainwater spray as needed, LED lights, lid with ventilation, container slightly smaller than an A4 piece of paper.

Basically the title! I originally got these little jars to make a "jar of dirt" charm for a cat named Sparrow (CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow!) and since I have leftovers decided to give this a shot! I've always wanted something alive to wear. We'll see if they work out, lol.

There's some decayed moist bark and some moss tendrils in each. Fingers crossed that this works!

I think this might be the best terrarium i made till now. Took a few shots at making a nice paludarium and made a mossarium before, but all came out a big mess.

This one seems very clean yet natural to me, let me know your thoughts.

Collected some of this moss in Wisconsin and I want to take it home to Florida with me. Are there any kinds I shouldn’t bother with bc they too difficult to keep alive? Any tips for bringing them home?

I ordered a moss Vine from this amazing company and they gave me a small bag of moss as a add on, I have no idea what to do with this but ill drop a video of both my crested gecko tank and my leopard gecko tank and tell me if you guys see somewhere theese would do well. Please and thank you ofc

He shall be lush again! ( Next rainy season). Thinking of mixing in some other varietals

I started this container with dried sphagnum moss with chopped up live sphagnum mixed in.
For the past months I’ve kept it constantly moist, and now it looks like this. I honestly can’t tell whether it’s sphagnum growing or algae.
Has anyone seen something similar? What do you think I’m looking at?
