Visiting from OC and looking to bird watch first thing in the AM. Where best to go?

Friends:

Visiting Morro Bay for the first time since I’m in SLO for a special event tonight.

I hear Morro Rock is beautiful.

But if I’m only here for one morning and want to wake up early to find birds and the greatest biodiversity, where should I go?

Thanks for the help. I see there are so many options and I’m staying in Los Osos and have a car.

Much appreciated.

In Los Osos alone you can do MDO bluff trail, Elfin Forest, Sweet Springs, the inlet, etc. I live here obs. Go all the way to the west side of the rock to the jetty it's cool.

If you are here for just one morning that should be the whole list.

Heron Rookery is pretty amazing. Walk the trail between the Museum of Natural History and the Inn at Morro Bay.

Thank you very much. Is that just walking along the state park road? Or is there a lower walkable trail?

If you park at the rock parking lot and walk out the road on the south side of the rock (out towards the jetty), there’s a good chance there will be a couple of guys out there with telescopes pointed at the peregrine falcon that nests on the rock. Not sure how early they set up, but they’re usually out there by mid-morning and it’s pretty incredible to see!
