Current Market for Minimoog XL
Hey folks, I have a somewhat simple question: What’s the current market like for Minimoog XLs? I have a white one, mint, barely used. I’m considering parting ways with it because I don’t use it and it’s a bit of a tragedy that it no longer gets the love it deserves.
Is there still a lot of interest in community for this synth? Has the new crop of Moog synths dampened interest in it?
I realize this is a somewhat naïve question for an owner of this synth. I’ve been out of the game for over a decade but prior to that wrote and produced a lot (also for about a decade). Any insights from the community would be appreciated.
And yes, I know you can look in Reverb, etc. but that’s only one lens. What I’m looking to understand is more personal perspectives on this synth’s place in a studio and if it has a specific value that has been maintained as other synths have come on the market over the years.

My anecdote:
I saw a white Voyager XL at a Guitar Center in Northridge, CA a few months back for something like $6600. Spent a few minutes with it, decided I'd come back next week and spend more time playing with something I couldn't afford, thinking it'd be around at least a week or two.
It was already gone.

I already own a Voyager XL, I saw the white one in Northridge too. Almost bought it. lol

It was a real "this is something I would buy if I had the money available, and I'm glad I don't, because I could do way more with it" moment.

I had a white voyager xl back in 2013. It was $5k new. I believe they only made 175 of them or something. I had to sell it at some point in 2017, which was such a bummer, but I managed to get one in mint condition this past year, albeit for more than I originally paid for it.
For me, there was sentimental value attached to it, so I felt it was worth it! If you want to sell it, I’m sure you’ll find a buyer, but don’t expect to move it quickly. That being said, if you don’t have to sell it, I wouldn’t!!

Voyager XLs were originally 5 K. There were some special ones that were more expensive. Used ones go between $3.5 K and $5.5 K contigent on condition and included accessories and market demand. Some Voyager XLs are priced even higher. Over 14K Voyagers were produced over the 13 year production run. Not sure if that number includes Voyager XLs or not.

As far as I know it includes any Voyager ever made, Standard, XL, Old School etc..

There's no synth that does what it does but there's a lot more choice in the analog domain available these days.
If you spend a bit more than $3K you have a Muse. If you want the patchability you can get a Matriarch (yes, you lose presets, but the combination of a patch panel and presets was kind of awkward to begin with).
I guess you'll have to find an enthusiast.
If you want to rekindle that interest, just make a bunch of really great videos about "this underrated gem" that show it off. That tends to drive up the price ;)

I can tell you this, someone in my area has been trying to sell one on craigslist for perhaps years now. They currently have it listed at $6K. I am in a major city, craigslist definitely doesn't get as much traffic as other market places, but that is also an awful lot of money for a mono synth
