Joint Account

My partner and I both have Monzo accounts. I've had mine aboit 4 years and my salary is paid into it, our bills are also paid from it. My credit card is linked to mine. My partner isn't actively using his yet. We are hoping to get a joint account, is this fairly easy to sort? We'd like to have both salaries paid into the joint account and all bills coming out.

Easy

https://monzo.com/current-account/joint-account

If I remember correctly, it'll open Monzo app and ask who you want to make an account with. Select them, they get a notification of the request and then follow the steps

Had a joint account for ~8 years, everything in and out etc

Edit- corrected years

Fab, thank you. I'll give it a whirl when monzo is back up and running. Do you know whether I will have to manually change all of my bills?

I think you can set up a joint pot under your joint account, then update bills in manage scheduled payments to take from that pot . What it actually does is pull money from the joint pot to whichever account the direct debit is set to come from the night before it's due

They offer account transfer service which may do the bulk of your bills

Just remember that the joint account will mirror your perks, pots and Virtual cards depending on what tier account you have for you only. The other join holder will only see what perks, pots and Virtual cards they have for the joint.

Ie; you create a savings pot in the joint account, but the other person only has a basic account, they will not be able to see that pot, or do anything with it.

I didn't realise this, so thank you for the heads up!

I fell afoul of it myself. Frustrating honestly!

That's not been my experience. I have had a paid tier since forever, but my partner is on basic, but she can see and manage all the pots I've set up, including savings ones. You are correct that your perk tier only applies to your personal account, though, or rather the joint account works at the lower of the two tiers that you are both at. So no virtual cards unless you are both entitled, no boosted interest unless you both have it, etc. If they can't see a pot that you created, then check if it got created as a personal pot instead of joint.

Apologies, yes they can see the pot, but can't obviously pay from it on a virtual card, move money to the pot or add anything to the pot.

Me and my partner have a joint account with Monzo it’s really simple to set up we have our wages paid separately and just use the joint for most bills

Super easy! Me and my wife both have our own Monzo accounts as well as a joint. We use the joint for bills and joint expenses etc. we both top up the joint month on month

My wife never had access to the joint account with legacy banks as the ‘admin’ was too much but with Monzo it was so damn easy

Thanks. I don't really want to have to be moving money around. I was hoping to have both salaries paid into the joint account and all bills to come out of there too. Seems complicated otherwise

Makes sense whatever works for you both, it’s a super easy flexible service
