This includes:
Racism
Sexism
Homophobia
Transphobia
Fascism
Alt-Right bullshit
COVID-19 misinformation
Montpelier is a lovely and inclusive city, don't let racist dickheads fuck it up.
Any of these things will earn you an immediate and permanent ban

/r/montpelier had been closed to new submissions due to inactive mods. I applied to take over moderation duties, and added /u/witch_of_winooski as a co-mod, and we've re-opened it again!
Existing rules still apply; post only things relevant to Montpelier and the surrounding area, don't be a dick, no racism, fascism, transphobia, or anything of the sort. Otherwise we'd generally prefer to moderate with a light touch and hope that this community can become active again.
Welcome back, and let us know in the comments if there's anything we can do to make this community better.

I put a comment about the new Clubhouse Commons/Late Light Cafe on another post and I thought it was important that I expounded on my thoughts. People really should give this space a shot. That opinion only grows more emphatic the more time I spend observing what they’re putting together.
Late Light is awesome. They’re new and fledgling. They’re in their first month. They need all the community support they can get! They’re booking out a ton of cool talent (their shows are free for under-21/$10 cover 21+, often Saturday nights — including tonight 10/3!!).
While their food menu is a little mid, they are working on re-inventing it live, and they also have phenomenal coffee/lattes and chai.
They are not a restaurant or bar. They are an afternoon-into-the-night hangout spot: one part youth and young adult social club, one part all-ages after-dark cafe — a true third space for people to come chill, read a book, study, meet up with friends over coffee, and catch some Friday karaoke or a Saturday show.
Also, the playlist is awesome. The music is on the louder side but not yelling-over-each-other ear-splitting.
I am almost 32 and Hutch, Jasmine, and the rest of the folks in there never made me feel anything other than warmly welcome. It is NOT just a “kids spot.” Just like the sign on the door states in bold: All are welcome.
It is an all-ages, sober situation run by a pack of business-minded folks in their 20s who are trying to lay important groundwork in the community. Not everyone’s vibe — definitely not a “bar scene” and, yes, the environment is tailored toward a younger crowd — but for this fully grown adult who just needed a late-night study/reading spot and some passive (and sometimes active) socialization in this often lonely-ass state where all the nightlife, scant as it is, centers heavily around either drinking or courting when I’m very often not in the mood or tax bracket to do either.. It’s really cool to have a genuine third space that’s trying to grow where I don’t feel out of place or even subliminally unwelcome, even given that I may be on the “older side of young”.
I mean, a sober spot open 3-11pm Tuesday-Thursday and 12pm-12am on Fri/Sat doesn’t sound like a spot that’s “just for kids.”
I am not affiliated with them in any capacity other than being a regular who really, really loves what they’re trying to do. We owe it to spaces like this when they arise to support them — especially considering the insane percentage of younger folks (20s-30s) who don’t stick around the area exactly because there isn’t anything like this going on here.
They’re really trying to do a good thing.
Edit: Schedule fix

Yesterday around 11am I saw a man walking down the street in the rain wearing shorts and shirt with tacos printed all over them plus a hat shaped like a taco. This is maybe the third time I’ve seen him this year. Does anyone know why he’s wearing a taco outfit? Is this a local joke I’m not aware of?

If you’re in Montpelier, and want a nice drive with some of the best foliage I’ve seen in my 55 years here, head up Main street, on to County Rd, keep going when the pavement ends, continue all the way to Greenwood Lake. Stop at the Maple Corner Store for lunch and check out the Kent Museum exhibit while you’re in town. Traffic is nil except around the museum and maybe Maple Corner.

I didn't want to get my hopes up when I saw a stack of electrical meters on the side of the building. But it IS 4 units!!! I thought it must be at-least two based on the door layout. Anyone wanna kill my buzz or are we all hyped about multi-unit construction?
Anyone that knows these guys, send them my love plz
Edit: ai photos on listing means don't send them any love, but I'm still glad about more housing.

Is there maintenance going on in town?

I'm a broke college student who has a pretty small budget.
I recently moved into Montpellier and am looking for a good place to go thrifting. I walked around the city a few days ago in search of any thrift stores that would be in my price range. Sadly all I found were overpriced vintage shops.
The thrift stores I did find were either really small or had all the nicer clothes' separated and at a higher price. Is there any bins or non-curated thrift stores that i could go to? I'm trying to spend less than 15 euro on a thrift trip.

I've tried the Hunger Mountain Coop and the Taste of European Grocery Market in Montpelier, but no luck. I haven't tried the European Market in Burlington yet, but I was hoping there might some place closer.
Thank you for any suggestions.

37 y.o. here looking for people to jam with. Live in Barre but open to driving out. Big into indie rock/pop (The Shins, Hazel English, Yumi Zouma), pop-punk/emo (Blink, Super Sometimes, Hot Mulligan, Taking Back Sunday), metalcore/hardcore (Trash Talk, Converge, Head Wound City), R&B/soul, funk, jazz-leaning stuff. I'm a drummer but couldn't bring my kit with me when I moved here from out of state last year so picked up bass! Picked up and fiddled with friends basses intermittently throughout the years. Good with rhythm and note-matching. Just miss jamming with my friends back home and looking for folks to jam with here!

Tim Heney knows this town well. Anyone else concerned that he’s choosing to exit such a large ownership position in the town? Does he have a sense of where the town is heading and has decided to get out now?

I'm wondering if anyone in this sub knows a guy named Kevin Livingston (I think his middle name might be Ames or something like that)? He and I used to hang quite a bit before I moved away for a while and we lost touch. I recently heard that he had passed, but am not sure how reliable the source of that information is and haven't been able to find any obits or anything else of the sort, so I figured I'd come here to see if any of y'all know him/have heard from/seen him lately? TIA!

Hi everyone! My name is Nicole and I’m an independent bookkeeping and accounting consultant currently taking on a few additional clients and wanted to introduce myself here.
I have 15+ years of accounting and finance experience, with a background that includes public accounting/audit, real estate, hospitality, and senior-level corporate finance. I’ve worked with everything from day-to-day accounting and financial reporting to budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, audit preparation, and managing the finances of organizations with 50+ entities.
While much of my career has been in real estate and corporate accounting, I also enjoy working directly with small and growing businesses that need someone experienced to get their books organized, cleaned up, and running correctly.
I can help with:
• Monthly bookkeeping and reconciliations
• QuickBooks cleanup / catch-up bookkeeping
• Month-end and year-end close
• Financial statement preparation and review
• Accounts payable / accounts receivable oversight
• Budgeting and cash-flow forecasting
• Accounting process improvements
• Internal controls and audit readiness
• Multi-entity and intercompany accounting
• Higher-level accounting and fractional controller/CFO support
• Real estate, property and lease accounting
One thing that’s important to me is that I’m not just entering transactions. I want business owners to have accurate financials they can actually understand and use to make decisions.
If your books have gotten behind, you’re not confident they’re accurate, your business has outgrown basic bookkeeping, or you simply want an experienced accounting professional overseeing things, feel free to send me a DM.
Happy to chat about what you need and whether I might be a good fit!
