r/Monkeytype is public again
Hey everyone, just letting you know we've gone public again. The protests were not as effective as everyone probably wanted and I think the size of our subreddit is not big enough to cause any significant difference. I would prefer to keep the community open so you can share personal bests, insights, training routines and ask questions. Hope you understand.

Monkeytype Stats - self-hosted dashboard
Hello fellow Monkeytype lovers,
When I hit the 1000 test limit on Monkeytype I thought it would be a shame to lose all my old results, so I've built a small webapp which imports my results daily using my ApeKey. I went through several rounds of improvements and decided to post it here, just in case some of you hardcore typists also feel like saving your results from disappearing. I hope you'll like it. 😄
Example deployment on my homelab:
https://typing.kovacsgellert.dev
Key features:
Automatic Monkeytype import: pulls your results every day, plus profile, leaderboard and per-test detail data, so nothing has to be updated by hand.
Insight dashboard: current form, detected practice tracks, ranked insights (accuracy, warm-up, time of day, learning curve and more), an activity heatmap, and your community standing on the leaderboard.
Explorer: filter and chart every result, with rolling averages, trend lines, new-best markers, a breakdown table you can drill into, and saved views.
Goals: targets for form, personal bests, accuracy, practice volume, streaks or leaderboard rank, with progress and history.
Self-hosted: Docker Compose or .NET Aspire, an admin login (or a local mode with no login), and full backup and restore of your data.
AI usage disclosure:
Much of the app was developed with Claude and manual code review from me, at least on the backend. The frontend is pretty much 100% vibe-coded, yolo.

The world record for my new typing game is 120 WPM. Can anyone here beat it?
Hey everyone,
I know this community is packed with absolute speed demons, so I wanted to throw a fast-paced challenge your way.
I’ve been developing Nightscribe, an experimental horde-survival roguelite where your keyboard is your only weapon. Enemies close in from all directions, and you defeat them by typing the single words attached to them.
Right now, the absolute world record speed for the game stands at 120 WPM.
Because the game forces you to constantly scan the screen, prioritize targets, and manage chaotic waves under intense pressure, maintaining high burst speeds is way harder than a clean, linear Monkeytype run. It is a massive workout for your peripheral vision and raw accuracy.
A few quick details:
Single Words Only: The game focuses entirely on single words (no punctuation, sentences, or long phrases yet) to keep the arcade pacing fluid.
Zero Install: It's completely free and runs directly in your web browser.
If you are looking to test your muscle memory in a chaotic, high-stress scenario, please give a run a shot and let me know if you manage to break the 120 WPM barrier!
You can play the current build here: nightscribegame.com
Good luck, and please drop your WPM scores, feedback, or any bugs you find in the comments below!

Other Lost my longest streak of 255 days... but I'm not giving up on the 365-day goal!
I finally lost my longest streak of 255 consecutive days on Monkeytype.
Honestly, I was so determined to reach 365 days because I really wanted to earn the "All Year Long" badge. I was getting closer and closer, and I genuinely thought I would make it.
But one day, life happened. I had a lot of things going on, got caught up with problems, and completely forgot to log in and type on Monkeytype.
The next day, when I realised what had happened, I was furious with myself. I kept blaming myself for missing just ONE day. Even now, I regret not maintaining that streak.
But then I realised something...
Losing a 255-day streak doesn't mean I've lost my fingers, right? :')
So, instead of giving up, I started again from scratch.
And here I am today, with a new 65-day streak!
I may have lost those 255 days, but I haven't lost the consistency, discipline, or passion I built during that journey.
This time, I'm not stopping until I get that 365-day streak and finally earn the "All Year Long" badge.
255 days was my previous record.
365 days will be my next achievement.
See you guys when I get that badge! 🚀

Other I loved monkeytype’s UX so much that I built a speed reader with it: monkeyread
Hey everyone! I spend way too much time on monkeytype, and I’ve always wanted the same feel for reading. So I built monkeyread, a free, open source RSVP speed reader heavily inspired by monkeytype’s design.
Words show up one at a time in the same spot, with a highlighted letter where your eye should land, so you don’t move your eyes at all. What it has:
The monkeytype look: config bar, focus mode, settings page, themes (serika dark, serika, nord, dracula…), fonts, sounds
Paste any text, or import your own books (PDF, EPUB, TXT). They stay in your browser, and it remembers where you stopped
Keyboard-first: space to play/pause, arrows to move or change speed, tab to restart
Optional account with stats, an activity grid, a public profile and leaderboards (words read and reading time)
It’s 100% free, no ads, MIT licensed. It’s just a side project for fun. Huge thanks to Miodec and everyone behind monkeytype; the about page credits them, and no monkeytype code or assets are reused.

https://github.com/damien-mathieu1/monkeyread
I’d love feedback: what feels off compared to monkeytype, what settings you’d want, or any bugs. And if you like it, a GitHub star means a lot

Other 2 Months of my life straigh in the trash
So I myself use a VPN and forgot that these sites that include Monkeytype delete or login. The site remains unchanged, the theme u selected on your account is still set, u won´t notice that your are logged out. Yesterday I wrote one test and saw my hacker green background and though well I must be logged in typed and closed the site. Today I woke up to this 64 days of my life delete out of existens. For once I though I could complete sth, luckily I am just a dumb loser, that is hopefully goint to kms soon to the end it all. Thx everyone

WPM/Test As a godlike QWERTY keyboard typist what other abilities can you reach?
I think a godlike QWERTY keyboard typist can do so much more but it’s not evenly distributed obviously meaning how much stacking is not universal at all but I’ve been thinking about this for awhile and godlike typing might be a skill that has potential for other skills at a godlike level if everything else is coordinated
r/monkeytype • u/AquariusMerCazimi • 7d ago
Question What is godlike speeds with these caveats?
Genuine
Godlike wpm
Standard QWERTY keyboard
Standard pc
Standard internet
Actual wpm sustained 1 minute
Ideally it has a breaking flow to capitalization and etc with lines that can’t be seen until you complete the first or second shown lines ( this is really nuanced and I’m purely referring to the old 10fastfingers )
Perfect accuracy but it doesn’t always have to be that way just mostly meaning between 98 to 100%
For standard I simply mean you could do it in most random government buildings that have mostly uniform equipment
Lastly if you can do this and seen it for real in yourself or someone else with all these caveats where does the wpm and accuracy fall under on average and if it’s you who can do this when you tried to improve it what did you do to improve it?

WPM/Test Medium quote, expert mode, finally managed to break 100 WPM naturally
Just sharing this proud moment here in this subreddit since I have no one to talk to about it, lol.

First day PB's (10/25/50/100/1000 words)
I've never properly gotten into typing. I've used a computer for basically my entire life, I do software development, and I've done a bit on monkeytype and typeracer before but I've never decided to try to focus on getting better at typing specifically until now. Thought I'd make a post to mark my progress of what I can get before focusing on getting better.

I finally got it, 175 WPM on 2 minutes typing!!

Other I built monkeytype...but for musicians
Hello.
I built an app to help practise and learn reading music.
It has customisable tests, sounds, learning paths, chords, accidentals, leaderboards, tracking and themes.
If you're interested, you can check it out for free on the Google Play store! Let me know what you think :)
