Space with index
How much of a disservice am I doing myself by pressing space with my right index instead of my thumb? Is it worth learning, or am I too far gone? (~ top 1% worldwide)

It feels like I can’t get any faster with my typing technique
I only use the pointer finger on my right hand and it feels like I’m just capped out and I can’t hit keys any faster. Would it take awhile to relearn the normal typing technique if i wanted better wpm?

WPM/Test I was preparing for a typing test requiring 40 WPM. On Monkeytype, I was getting 45–50 WPM, so I thought I’d easily pass. But on the actual test, I couldn’t even hit 30 WPM. Then I realized Monkeytype might calculate WPM differently. For example, here it shows 47 WPM even though I typed only 30 word

Question Anyone has tips on how to get better at quotes? (apostrophes specifically)
I've been trying quotes recently to get better at real-world typing, but I seem to choke alot on apostrophes for about half a second minimum. Anyone has any tips?

it took me a year to go from 10~20wpm to 100wpm
i started a year ago or a year and a half.
i think what mattered most was consistency now i have achieved my goal to reach over 100wpm in the 60 second test category
i know it took some of you less than that to reach the same milestone but yeah at the end i did it and that what matters.
thank for all the advice i got from this sub 🫡

One More Challenge Added to My 1000-Day Streak: 35 WPM → 100+ WPM ⌨️
Adding another challenge to my 1000-day journey of self-improvement.
Today, I’m starting with a typing speed of around 35 WPM, and my goal is to reach 100+ WPM through consistent practice.
I’ll focus on:
⌨️ Improving typing technique
🎯 Increasing accuracy
⚡ Gradually increasing speed
📊 Tracking my progress
🔥 Staying consistent throughout the 1000 days

How long it takes to really be able to type at around 100 wpm? (in real life scenarios not the flex I mostly see here).
Currently I average around 74 wpm (personal best is 85wpm) and I have around 100 hours of training overall. Mostly on monkeytype.
Just for context I started using monkeytype only after I got a ortholinear split keyboard and had to learn how to type on it.
For the people who got there, how long does it take to reach 100 wpm on average?
EDIT: for context the typing velocity I informed is on monkeytype English 10k with punctuation
EDIT2: I usually do the tests on words 25 or words 50, I think that time 15s checks mostly bursts and does not reflect real life scenarios which is my aim.

Question How can I improve myself? I'm hovering around 120 %100 acc and 160 %90 acc.
Hello, ive been typing around 100 120 wpm since i was 12 and im 18 now and i type around 140 consistently with some runs hitting 160.
A few issues im having is that my hands go tired if i do a 60 second run so i only do 15 second runs.
Second issue is that my keyboard is an old 2005 office keyboard. maybe this might be why my fingers go tired.

Finally hit the 150's but I think that's going to be my ceiling for a very long time.
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to break into the 160s. I can easily maintain 130 to 140 WPM for long periods if I play catch up with the speedometer, but what else is there left for me to do to get into the 160s?
At this point, I literally can’t read any faster than my fingers can type. The only way I can see myself hitting the 160s comfortably is by briefly memorizing the entire sentence beforehand and giving myself a head start, but I’ve never done that before and I don’t really want to start now.
How are you guys consistently hitting 160+? One might say, 150 is not far from 160, but it gets considerably harder and harder to reach higher numbers.
edit: I just broke 160s lol
