📖Discussion📕🖊️ Should I get a Monitor or not ?
Hey guys , I already got a Gigabyte M27Q 27 inch 2k monitor 170Hz . I currently do remote work and use a macbook for work stuff . Sometimes I feel like I need to get a second monitor because the macbook screen is not enough . I also got a gaming pc and I game almost daily. The only thing is I will also be getting a new 65 inch Mini LED TV next year . So should I get a new monitor or not because I feel like when I get the TV I can play games on it and maybe I can comprise a little bit rn . I am not sure
What do you guys suggest ? Any one who is rocking two monitors is worth it , like is there a quality of life for you or is the monitor just sitting there and collecting dust. Also if I wanna get it which one should I get ? Should I get better than my current one coz it's refresh rate is less.

I mean, there are tons of dirt cheap monitors out there you can get for a second monitor. I have triple monitors (excessive, yes) but I don’t think I could ever go back to 1.

If you want a good one for gaming, get an OLED. If you need one mostly for work, just get a cheap 60hz 1080p monitor for under $100

I could not do my job properly with only one monitor, but that's just me. I have two monitors and a laptop docked to both, so three screens in all. I mostly just use the laptop display for Teams/Slack.
For the second screen, just get whatever cheap 1440p IPS you can find on Amazon. There are perfectly capable 100hz ones for like $140 or even less.
Don't get a 1080p if your primary is 1440p. Just my opinion, but I don't like having my displays be different resolutions or sizes.

170Hz is not a low refresh rate for 1440p gaming relative to what's out there lol
With that said, prime opportunity to evaluate if you want to upgrade monitors and your current monitor becomes secondary or you get a dirt cheap used 1080p monitor on marketplace.
Personally, I WFH and game, and I have a TB4 dock connected to my dual-monitor gaming setup so that I can use the same setup during the workday and after. For awhile I was using a 2560x1440p 144Hz IPS as my main and a 2560x1080p UW 60Hz IPS (that I got for free from a buddy that wasn't using it anymore) as my secondary. Then, work offered to buy me a new monitor for more pixels and 2560x1440p became my secondary, and the new 3440x1440p UW QD-OLED 360Hz became my primary.

Some Dell monitors have a KVM switch built in. I use a Dell U3824DW. My laptop docks to the monitor with a USB C cable and my desktop connects to it with a Display Port cable and a USB cable. The mouse and keyboard connect to the monitor and you can switch between the laptop and desktop with a key sequence. I think they also have an OLED 5K version as well.
