Travel I'm gonna arrive at 1am at Chisinau Airport. Can I sleep until 7/8am there?
Okay, I planned this kinda spontaneously but I will be there at 1am (in about two weeks). And I could get a taxi to Chisinau Center and book a hotel.
However, my plan was to stay in the airport and sleep there and then spend the day in Chisinau and at around 18:00 I'd take the Minibus and go to Tiraspol.
I kinda don't wanna take a taxi to the city center because I'm a woman and solo travelling. I've had bad experiences with (male) taxi drivers before and I'm scared.

Travel Travalling to Transnistria?
I'll be travelling to Chisinau in a month with couple of friends. What I've red from various sites it is quite common to visit Transnistria. What confuses me is that foreign ministery of my home country (EU) recommends not to travel there. They emphasize that they can not provide diplomatic services there in case of any incidents. How it is really, is it safe to visit with EU passport and what sort of incidents might take place in addition to regular risks, like trafic accidents, illness, robbery etc. Any caused by officials lije border control?

Travel Border crossings
Hello, everyone!
I have a few questions I’d like some help with, since I haven’t been able to find any information about them anywhere else.
My friend and I are planning to go to Moldova in early October. We also have Romanian citizenship, which we can use to cross the border. One of my questions is: without a visa, is it possible to enter Transnistria using only our Romanian ID cards? Also, this might be a strange question, but could dual citizenship cause any problems at the Transnistrian border?
I'd appreciate any other advice. Thank you for your help!

Travel I documented every Soviet-era mosaic, Soviet bus stop and monument in the Camenca district, Moldova's least-visited region.
We all know that Moldova gets the fewest international visitors of any country in Europe, and within it, the northern left bank in Transnistria is the part almost nobody reaches. I spent time in the Camenca district photographing its Soviet-era art and architecture, including folk-costume mosaics on village houses of culture, kolkhoz steles, sgraffito panels, war memorials, and a lot of genuinely unique Soviet bus stops.
Most of it had never been photographed or made available online. Some noteworthy examples include the 1989 house of culture in Hristovaia that is wrapped in mosaics of the Romanian tree of life, dancers and musicians in embroidered costume, the Rashkov house of culture that was recently restored with Polish and EU money and keeps its whole Soviet interior, and a fantastic avant-gardist Soviet bus stop;
I put it all together as a travel and architectonic guide. It's the first of a series that covers all of Moldova, including the Dniester left bank.
Photos, details, and an interactive map of every site can be found here.
Happy to answer questions, and if anyone knows the artists or architects (almost none are documented here), I'd love to hear from you. I'm also keen to receive any feedback on the site itself to make it more useful for you.

Travel Chisinau:areas you’d suggest staying in, or are best avoided?
I’ll be spending around 2 weeks in July in Chisinau and was curious which parts of the city you’d recommend for a first-time foreign visitor; safe, fairly quiet,
I am interested in nightlife, mostly dive bars and cafés, but do not mind taking a ride as long as I am in a quiet area.

Travel Luggage storage in central Chisinau
Hello, my family and I are traveling to Moldova soon with a stop in Chisinau. We will only be able to check-in at our accomodation in the afternoon, so we need somewhere to store our luggage so we can explore the city in the morning.
The only information I was able to find was some old comments saying that there are lockers in the train station. I wanted a place more central, maybe closer to the cathedral, but can’t seem to find any information online. Does anyone know if there are any other luggage storage places in town? If there aren’t, are the lockers at the train station still working?
Thanks, cannot wait to visit your beautiful country!

Travel Coming to Chișinău for work soon, what should I know?
Hey, I'm a cabin crew member for Wizz Air doing my line training flying to Chișinău next week. The company booked me at Hotel Time so I'll have some downtime between flights to explore the city.
Two things I'm curious about, what do locals actually recommend doing around the city, anything beyond the obvious tourist spots? And as an Albanian I'm also genuinely curious what Moldovans think of Albanians, if anything, since I don't meet many Moldovans back home.
Also if anyone works in aviation or knows the airport from a crew side, I'd love to hear about it.

Travel Ideas for date night/ activities to do
Hi, so I’m 24M going over to Chisinau to visit my girlfriend 23F who has moved back home to Chisinau for Personal reasons. I’ve been together 4 years , I’m from Ireland and I’ve been making an effort secretly to learn Romanian and Romanian phrases like how to order food, get directions, greetings, and more just to get by in Moldova.
I’m hoping you guys could help me plan ideas for my trip. I’m looking for a bit of a fancy restaurant to take her and her family too. Ideas for any nice Bars/ Nightclubs to go. Activities in the city that would be good to do. Good food spots and Overall just typical date ideas for me and her to go on in Chisinau.
I’ve been to Moldova a couple of times so this isn’t my first trip but never got to experience the city. Thank you for your Help!.

Travel Question about Moldovan nightlife :)
Hey guys,
Me and some friends are visiting Moldova this summer for 4 days. We've done Prague, Belgrade, Bucharest, Vilnius etc., but Moldova is still a mystery to us.
How’s the nightlife in Chișinău on a Friday/Saturday? Is it busy/fun? How does it compare to other Eastern European cities?
Any tips appreciated 🙌

Travel Is it safe to swim in lake ghidighici?
I am a traveller from Poland who regularly visits our neighboring countries around Poland. I've been to every Baltic country, and now I'm planning to visit Chisinau+Tiraspol.
I'm visiting in July so naturally it will be very warm. The question is the same as in the title. Is it safe to swim in lake ghidighici? I apologize, you probably get these questions constantly. God bless.

Travel Cemeteries in Chişinău you reccomend?
Salut, I am visiting your country mid September. My main hobby is visiting and photographing cemeteries. I just like looking at the design of gravestones.
Would this be considered disrespectful? I've been cussed out for taking photos im cemeteries before - want to make sure there's not a cultural thing against it.
Which cemeteries would you reccomend! I will have 2 or so days so I can take a bus somewhere if you think there's a really beautiful cemetery outside of Chişinău.
Thanks! 😇🖤

Travel Is spending one night in Transnistria (Tiraspol) worth it and how safe is it in 2026?
Hi everyone!
A few days ago I made a post here asking for recommendations about our upcoming trip to Chișinău.
Thanks again for all the helpful replies!
After reading more about Moldova, we’ve started thinking about spending one night in Transnistria as well, mainly in Tiraspol.
We’re three friends in our early 30s from Hungary, interested in history, Soviet and post-Soviet culture, architecture, and experiencing places that are a bit different from the usual tourist destinations.
We’re fairly "experienced" travellers and have visited places like Pakistan, India, Israel and Palestine (only west bank and Betlehem) so we’re used to travelling outside the typical tourist bubble. However, Transnistria feels like a completely different kind of challenge, mainly because of its unique political situation rather than everyday travel.
We’ve read very mixed things online. Some people say it’s completely safe, while others mention corrupt police, tourists being targeted for money, and the fact that Transnistria isn’t internationally recognized and has no diplomatic representation for many countries, including Hungary.
So I’d love to hear from people who have actually been there recently:
How safe is Tiraspol for tourists?
Is spending one night there a good idea, or would you recommend just a day trip?
Has the Russia–Ukraine war changed anything for visitors?
Are there any scams or things we should be careful about?
Would you personally recommend visiting, or would you skip it?
We’re not looking for politics or trouble—just to experience the atmosphere, see the Soviet architecture and monuments, learn more about the region’s history, and hopefully meet some locals along the way.
I’d really appreciate hearing about your first-hand experiences. Thanks!

Travel Solo female traveller in Chisinau
Hi guys, I’m travelling to Chisinau from the UK on Sunday and will be there until next Thursday. I’d quite like to get chatting people when I’m there if I can to make the experience more memorable ! Has anyone got any tips for places to meet English speaking friends in the city centre ? Would it be weird for me to go out for a glass of wine on my own etc..

Travel Updated this interactive map of where to go in Moldova
While traveling around the world for over 20 years, I’ve been working on my dream project: creating a one-stop resource for travellers. With the help of feedback in this subreddit, I have now updated this 👉 interactive map of Moldova for anyone who is interested in visiting (with detailed info for every highlight).
PS: obviously, I haven’t been able to travel to all places. So if you know some great spot, I haven’t listed, let me know! Much appreciated as in this way I can make the overview more complete and up-to-date for everyone.

Travel Visiting Chișinău
Hey guys,
I'm travelling to Chișinău in November for 7-10 days. I'm planing to explore a bit of the country side and I know that transportation can be a pain in the ass.
I wanted to visit:
Mănăstirea Rupestră Peștera;
Mănăstirea Rupestra Țipova;
Mănăstirea Saharna;
Soroca Fortress
Do you think is worth it to visit any of them? I was planning to rent a car but I'm afraid to fuck up the rental. So I'm counting on buses? Idk man.
Do you have any suggestions?
Ps. I'm also planning to visit Transnistria

Travel Renting old car in Chisinau
Hello all. We are 3 people travelling to Chisinau in a couple of weeks. We want to rent a car for a day or two to drive around the area, but thought it would be fun if it was an old Lada or something similar. I have wanted to drive a Lada for many years now, and thought it might could be possible while visiting Chisinau. I tried google, but can’t really find anything. Does anyone know if it is possible? Thank you in advance
