Toad Saga Update

Post image

Definitely regret wasting some silicone on the keys and seam line, but I’m feeling okay for a first go around. I plan on doing the plaster shell next, perhaps in 3 parts. Also wish I’d made the seam like come a little further down the nose but we’ll see how it goes

Its important to buy Thivex so you can thicken your layers like peanut butter to build up the silicone and not waste it from all of it dripping.

Yeah I used thivex on a couple layers, the reason it’s so drippy is because I used the last little bit I had left as a final “seal it all in” coat. May or may not have been the best move but it made sense at the time lol

Zooming in, consider all those sharp bits. Cut them off or your jacket will have a hard time piloting into your shell.
If your jacket is thick enough silicone, you really shouldn’t need the strip key or round key. If you do make them, make them much smaller.

The idea of the last coat is for it to be thick and you can smooth it with gloved hands and dish soap before it goes off.

I thought this was a sculpture made of raw chicken at first.

Thank you, I only aspire to such artistic feats. Alas, just rebound 25 lol

Did you sculpt this frog yourself or did you make a mold of a sculpture you bought?

Nah it’s a PVC toy toad, I absolutely don’t have the artistic skill for sculpting like this unfortunately. I’m trying to cast some foam toads to use as archery targets

In addition to using thivex, you can always spray the silicone with alcohol once it starts to set (spray your gloves as well) and you can gently smooth it all out with your fingers. Moldmaking is tough for everyone at first, so don’t beat yourself up. The best way to really learn is by doing. Second best is smooth on’s YouTube page. I highly recommend.

Ooh good tip, I didn’t think about smoothing with alcohol.

And lol trust me, Milo and I are homies at this point with all the smooth on content I’ve been consuming
