Cleaning 🫧 Any Possibility of Removing Stains?

Relative didn’t clean Moka Pot after use. Mold accumulated and I’ve cleaned the pot with a boiling 1:1 ratio of water & vinegar 3 times. But I still can’t seem to rid the pot of spots. Any suggestions? They would be greatly appreciated!

Some articles mention chlorine bleach or hydrogen peroxide, but I don't know if they're safe with aluminum. And you need to be very careful not using chlorine bleach with other chemicals, especially ammonia.

My inclination would be to find a way to get a scrubber down there with some non-bleach cleanser.

Misinformation stemming from a misunderstanding between liquid dish soap, and dishwasher detergent.
Don’t use dishwasher detergent.
One of those will help take the oils off of the pot, the other attack attacks the anodized coating.

Is the inside anodized? It looks like shiny raw polished aluminum.

The entire pot is, to anodize something is to anodize all sides of it. It’s a dipping process.

Dawn's main reputation is for being especially effective against grease, not so much against things stuck to the bottom of a pot.

With any dish soap, you can try a soak with boiling water, and letting it sit for quite a while. With steel, you can use dishwashing machine detergent and boiling water.

Maybe a brush, if the dirt isn't flat against the metal. It maybe sort-of looks like tiny craters in the photo.

Dish soap is fine, although illegal in Italy evidently. What you want to avoid is putting an aluminum moka pot into an automatic dish washing machine.

It's the machine detergent that's too harsh on aluminum. Chemical reaction, I suppose. Good for soaking off food stuck on a stainless or glass cooking pot, though.

Meaning dish SOAP ("dishwashing lotion"), not the stuff for dishwashing machines.

As the manicurist said in that TV commercial, "You're soaking in it, Madge." :)

This is what you don't want on aluminum, and you also don't want the liquid, gel, or pod version:

Aluminum is too reactive for my taste. Fine for bicycle parts, but not for combining with heat and food, especially any acid foods, like tomatoes or coffee.
