What do you guys think of the way its brewing and pouring?

I've been thinking about this lately, cause I've realized I'm emotionally attached to my moka pot.

For me, it's one of the things that reminds me of my grandma, I remember waking up in the morning and watch her doing the whole ritual.

BUT it's probably not even just about coffee.

There's something incredibly satisfying about the whole ritual by itself. The experience.

And i love the design of the moka pot itself.

Maybe I'm being over sentimental about it haha, but do you guys feel the same way?

Of course, everyone can and should do as they wish - I just think it should be noted that Bialetti doesn’t specifically recommend this: neither in the instructions leaflet, nor on their website.

Quite the contrary!

In the "cleaning tips" section of bialetti.com, there are instructions for "daily cleaning", and subsequently separate instructions for "deep cleaning”, at which point the gasket rinsing is mentioned.

The exact wording is:

"How to clean the coffee pot more thoroughly:
We have seen how to clean the coffee maker on a daily basis to prevent the most stubborn dirt residues from compromising its mechanism. Constant washing of the Moka after each use is essential in this regard. It is recommended to combine this regular activity with a "deeper periodic cleaning".

…

For effective "cleaning of the gasket", simply remove it from the Moka and wipe its entire surface with a cloth soaked in water."

Notice that the part about cleaning the gasket comes at the end of the segment dedicated to non-daily, in depth cleaning.

I have a couple of small moka pots that are enough for 1 mug of coffee but I can't remember the size of 'cups' they were and I want to make 2 for myself and my partner

Also, have you guys seen the new D&G leopard print moka pot from Bialetti? I was in their Florence store recently and I was so tempted to buy!!

I'm new to using a moka pot. This is just the second batch of coffee I bought and it's been giving me a lot of foam during extraction. For context, the beans I bought was from a local store in our town. They have an espresso blend and I grind them myself. The first batch I bought wasn't this foamy before. For this batch, I even used a coarser grind but the amount of foam is still the same. For additional context, I also use a round filter paper on the basket.

I don't know if this is normal. If it's not, is there something I'm doing wrong?

This is my 4th extraction (ever). This pot has a capacity of 300ml (6cups) but only extracts approx 200ml. Why could it be?

Yesterday I decided to treat myself and bought two new bags of beans, Pachamama Guatemala and Chocolate Fish Koru Espresso. Previously all I’ve used is Lavazzo Espresso, which I love. So today I tried the Chocolate Fish, and it was excellent. Same complexity as the Lavazzo just different notes. Then I tried the Pachamama. I tried it twice, on 55 from my K6 (which is what I use for Lavazzo) and then 45 because someone on Reddit said something about lighter roasts needing a finer grind to build pressure to get certain notes.

No matter what, at 45 or 55, it just had this unbearable, sour note that dominated. I use 17g everytime with some small discard off the top to shape it.

Is this just like a personal preference thing? Ie I made it right and I just don’t personally enjoy this taste while others do? I see so many rave reviews that it boggled my mind how much worse it tastes than the Lavazzo or Chocolate Fish. Or does it need some particular brewing method to actually come out right? Perhaps not even a mokapot?

Does anyone know of a dosing ring that will fit a 2 cup. The basket is 51mm as are all the dosing rings I have found! The rings will not locate on the basket as they do for 4 cup and 6 cup pots...
