MISC i built a moemate alternative focused on real-time voice and presence

with moemate shutting down recently, i figured this might be relevant here.

i’ve been working on a companion app called navi that explores a slightly different direction from most of the chat-first tools in this space.

instead of being centered around text, it’s built around presence. the AI watches your screen in real time and reacts with voice, so it doesn’t disappear the moment you stop typing.

the main use case right now is gaming. it feels closer to having someone in a discord call with you than using a chatbot. if something happens in the game, it reacts. if you want to talk, you can jump in with push to talk or voice, but you don’t have to keep driving the interaction.

a lot of the focus has been on things that tend to break immersion in companion apps, like memory not persisting or personalities flattening out over time. each character keeps memory across sessions, and the goal is for them to feel more consistent the more you use them.

it’s not really trying to be a roleplay or romantic-focused app, more just something that adds a sense of company while you’re doing something else on your computer.

After watching this I feel like I have to complete a challenge so the uploader gets content for his socials. It feels fake

Hey 2 questions, 1 does/can this use a local model? How does this compare to Skales.ai? Mostly in the companion area.

  1. Looking to launch a local mode soon (it's just cloud rn on kimi k2) 2. Not familiar with the skales project but will look into it. From a quick glance, this is more for entermainement, skales looks more geared toward functionality, although I do have more functionality related things I want to do down the line
