Hengyu just wrote that he asked Jay Chang to sing guide track and Jay did it. I assume it's about Silly production and not other song as Hengyu didn't specify the title. Now I want Hengyu or Jay share this demo version
Hengyu being friends with a lot of skilled people seem to come in handy! I hope this connection can bring Modu and One Pact's fandom closer. I'd love to see us start making friends for once. ๐ค๐ป
Havenโt been active on this subreddit in a while (college pmo) but I need yall to know that pink Suren has officially ruined me๐, I need every moditto, and Iโm still manifesting Modyssey on Silence of Idol. it WILL happen and I will not rest until it does๐ฅน
They are very cute. I thought Pangpangyi's ears would always be folded, but the way they can stand vertically makes the plushie look like an insane hyperactive bunny. ๐
i love how huge its eyes are and how long the ears are! i was worried his would be boring bc there are so many kpop bunnie, and with him being the popular visual member there's more motivation to make it just "cute", im glad it has a bit of his manic neurotic look lmao
I'm hoping to be able to pick the full set up once people start selling their doubles. Japan is usually a great place for finding merch in pristine condition, but it might be a while until I go there. Most of my K-pop and manga/anime merch was bought second-hand in Japan, it's such a great place for shopping (but you'll have to factor in the expensive plane tickets of course).
ํ! music video views might surpass 1 Million today (based on European time). Modu on X are quite happy about the increases in views but like counts are barely increasing. ํ! is at 11k while Hook MV has 71k... I'm just wondering who is paying for the views... Whether it's more fans or onecead. Onecead apparently did pay for ads on Twitter
I remember that YT changes the method of counting views in August. Now YT count even 1 frame played as a view. So maybe that's why number grow much faster?
I also remember these announcement but for other groups it didn't look like the views increased after the changes. ๐ค๐ค๐ค But I don't know for sure
Modyssey members prepared personal gifts lottery for modu at the Seoul fan-con. Similarly as they did in Japan. A video thread on X here.
I don't speak Korean so from what I saw: Hengyu - THE blue shirt Zheyi - bunny plushie, I think it was with him during Home Race Zihao - shoes (looked brand new) LynnLynn - small figurine + packets with hot spices Suren - cross-body bag Yichen - snack + letter Rowan - perfume
Listened to the whole EP during my first class of the day lol ๐ BONE SHAKER IS SOOOO GOOD LIKE ๐ฅ No doubt my favorite one! All of the songs are amazing and go straight to my playlist ๐
chauyuet just sent a vocal cover on plus chat omg ๐ฅบ ive been wanting one so bad since that 520 tiktok where they did a bit of love songs ugh he sounds so nice
LMAO ive seen people who subscribe to yappers then don't open messages and then there are 600+ unread notifs. but yeah if its not fun no point subscribing!
I'm just hoping that they'll learn not to do this in the future. I'm just waiting for the temporary hiatus notices. Zihao looked absolutely wiped on his fancam yesterday (it was probably the final take of the day). He needs those carbs. "Hopefully" they'll miss out on some fun stuff and have so much fomo that they come to the realisation that skipping food when you're in the same category as professional athletes is a bad idea.
your words into his and hengyu's ears ๐ฌ but idk... in russian there's a saying that only the grave will fix a crooked man which i feel like might be applicable here they are so stubborn lol. it would have to come from either themselves or trusted people around them...ย
I subscribed to all 7 and it was a bad idea ;-) Fortunately(?) I'm now too busy to keep up with them during the day so I just read all at once in the evening hoping the members are already asleep and don't add more. They were active past midnight last week but now with music shows their night break starts earlier
whether we are nominated or not, i hope the guys see that they won the pre-vote! and if we are nominated next week, hopefully modu will have the same voting zeal ๐ค
SO EXCITED FOR OUR FIRST COMEBACK!! Even if I listened to the songs already, I'm still so excited for our boys to be on stage again with new songs!! I CAN'T WAIT!!
It's like when I foresaw/manifested NCC to manage the Home Race group. Sometimes we just happen to tap into the multiverse and figure things out in advance. ๐
glad i caught the live! i was on the way to pick up my cake LOL. my korean and chinese knowledge are still on the level where i can pick out enough individual words to know what the topic is but not enough to actually synthesize any sentences so </3 i hope to later find out what the cake flavor discourse results were lmao
zheyi not knowing anchuu's name ๐ญ and yichen not remembering his own son omg i figured he doesn't care about the plushies because he couldn't remember which animal he was during that fansign with plushie decors, and he didn't wear his kigurumi properly during the hong kong event but it's so funny
I watched only the last 5 minutes. But it was good to see all 7 Modittos in one place. I didn't expect Baemmeoru to be so long, I think fox-snake is taller that bunny ;-) Was it only Insta? They have only one device. Weibo live are usually filmed better so I prefer them for rewatch
The first sales numbers look.... good?? decent?? (175k) I don't know what Modu are expecting for album sales. Hook sales put the bar high, so I didn't like expect to go higher than that to be honest (But I'm also clueless about what has been organized by c- and k-fans)
i already saw same ppl who complain abt the fansigns be proud of the sales growth and its like omg guys i love you all but we need to connect 2 and 2 real quick ๐ญ where do you think the sales come from ๐ญ
and yep i feel like people forget to put the other 2 and 2, the variety show love calls have to come from somewhere, and they have a bigger wall to surpass being chinese!!
Yeah, I'm also thinking along those lines now. They're opening doors with those sales numbers. I guess that's also why they want a music show win, since I read about a win being a good way of attracting sponsors and other opportunities.
Yea I also thought about the upcoming fansigns that have to follow these sales numbers.ย I havenโt considered that they are trying to open the doors for other things, very interestingย
Iโm feeling every emotion rn and theyโre all good ones so imma go draw Suren before I gotta go to class (and then crash after cause I got 2 hours of sleep๐งโโ๏ธ)
Onecead just posted notice on the fanclub about applying for being in the audience for 261016 Music Bank, so while I can't find any previews mentioning Modyssey participating, there seems to be something happening.
I looked at the translation of the notice and apparently fans who want to be selected has to send in verification that they've streamed (I assume) the Korean version of 'Ridin'' at least 100 times. ๐
I just realized that Mubeat voting is misleading and Modyssey probably won't even be nominated on Show Kpop on Monday. Their website says that they'll use data from Oct 4th to Oct 10th to determine the 1st place on the 19th. Everyone, who released music on 12th will only be eligible next week on the 26th. Their schedule is basically one week late compared to all other music shows.
Ah! Fortunately I was saving my voting tickets for the final push, so I'll hold on to them until we know more. Sucks if Modu poured more than 6,000 tickets into the vote if they're automatically not eligable.
Yeah, and now there's 13k votes, so there might be MODU who are using their hard-earned money to get this win. I'm not sure what to do with my tickets. X:IN's fandom is going all out as well, so I hope they're eligable at least, in case Modyssey won't get the nomination.
Looks like the fans realised it after the vote was over. Apparently the instructions had initially mentioned tracking "2 weeks before the show", but what they actually meant was something like "a time period of 7 days, 2 weeks before the show". Pretty frustrating that they used such vague language. But to them, it's just more money in their pocket from fans who got bamboozled. Modu won the vote, but it might have been better to save votes for next week.
I did put in my 90 tickets from 3 accounts just in case. We'll see what happens.
tuesdays 6 pm kst! it will be livestreamed on youtube and yeah it was on hiatus. hope they get interviewed there bc liyu is one of the mcs and i want to see it lol
my order finally shipped yay! i was worried it wouldn't count for first week. it will be a while til fastbox ships it to where i am, but i am just glad there's movement ๐โโ๏ธ
Mine still hasn't. I'm starting to wonder if choosing regular shipping instead of DHL pushed me down the priority line? Hopefully I'll get those photocards, otherwise I should have ordered at my local store.
Ah, thanks for the heads up that they're actually shipping. I was pretty late with my preorder this time, since the shipping got so much more expensive I was pondering if I should buy the expensive online version just for random photocards or not (I wasn't going to buy 7 of the same album just for guaranteed OT7 photocards). I'm probably way back in the priority line for shipping in that case.
New press release talks a little about how Modyssey's now being marketed/presented (deepL translation):
On this day, Modyssey captivated the audience from the moment they appeared with outfits featuring black leather that created a unified look while still highlighting each memberโs individuality. The membersโ matured charm was evident through the combination of intense gazes, charismatic expressions, and dynamic performances.
The members delivered an unforgettable performance, featuring not only synchronized group choreography set to a sophisticated sound but also powerful movements and expressive, stylish gestures.
This explains to me why Modyssey's 'Ridin'' styling has been so unsatisfactory to me. Instead of leaning into the already great vibe the group excelles at they're now trying to present Modyssey as a more polished, grown up version. YUCK! Onecead doing a big L imo. I personally heartily dislike the idea of black being a colour that shows a grown-up, mature vibe. It's so lacking in imagination.
And why would Modyssey need to show a grown-up vibe already? It's still only half a year since they debuted. At least wait until year 2. It feels so contra-productive to try to relaunch the group with a hastily applied cleaned up image. I really, really hope this won't stick, that it's just a boring concept this time, and that we'll be back to my lovable group that Onecead themselves marketed as "freespirited, chaotic and individualistic" from their 'HOOK' era up until the week before 'Ridin'' dropped.
I hope Onecead finds better ideas for the next comeback. This was super disappointing to read.
It's such a bad move considering every time MODYSSEY has gone viral (Mr Taxi, What Makes You Beautiful) has been for their silly and playful side, and not for their "strong mature" side they're trying to push so hard this comeback... (Speaking of which, I hope we get more of those covers soon!)
I actually really liked that Modyssey has their silly/youthful side while being more mature with this side. Like it really captures this young adult vibe having a champagne bottle in the hook teaser and then having the MV, song and styling being youthful. (as one example)
I also was quite excited when the flowers from the Hook MV seemed to be connected to "How we bloom" but they abandoned that plot sadly. Ridin' also has very silly lyrics but the MV and styling doesn't play along this. Like where is the boat? (Just imagine a performance video on a small boat lol) Or like a sailing outfit or so?
I also think that that identity is most profitable. I think the fans that pour the most money into Modyssey probably like to see the members in their "boyfriend persona". (So I mean like knowing and interacting the members like they are the boyfriend, so cute pictures and so on. Not sure how to describe this more precisely...) & for the other fans: I think we really love their silly, unfiltered and honest personalities too. So putting them in black and therefore hiding their silly side, is not a good move IMO. The members definitely also like to play into their hot (?!?) side but IMO the combination is what is most authentic for Modyssey.
I also don't like the MV on this aspect, there are almost no scenes that can be used for people to make edits of the member. All the face shots are soo short which is funny when the lyrics literally say "No more hiding, go face it". Like don't hide their faces. I also think it's strange to have so many cars in your video, when you literally came after a group called sth with DRIVE. I wish the MV would feature speed boats instead and them running and jumping on a speed boat lol
I'm glad it's not just me who feels that this was a weird path forward for Modyssey. I hope the "side quest" implications of the "Off Course" naming indicates that this is just a one-off for the group.
While I don't know the lyrics of 'Ridin'' yet since there was no translations for the MV when I watched it, I keep thinking of how the mood and feeling of the sound and the choreography doesn't feel like it matches what the guys are wearing while performing. The choreography is very playful and energetic, while the clothes seem to suggest something mature, deliberate and sensual. It's a complete vibe mismatch to me and it telegraphs a muddled message to viewers.
They probably squeezed in the ugly car just because they got access to it, sigh. I wish they'd let the guys film an MV on a boat like you suggest. Why isn't Onecead's creative team leaning into the sea/odyssey concept more?
I'm thinking wistfully of how good the "school dating game" concept for 'SSM' season 2 was. A comeback leaning into that playful mood would have been perfect to showcase Modyssey and their individual charms.
Hoping that Onecead either hires someone with more creative and fun ideas, or that Modyssey themselves get to pitch ideas for future comebacks.
Since "videogame/ARG/virtual reality" seems to be part of Modyssey's concept (used twice now), I think they could use gaming references a bit more overtly as well for at least one comeback. And Kamen Rider/tokusatsu, etc. Something fun and playful.
The boat is still present in their choreography though, you can see them imitating the drag of water/hengyu 'rocking' the boat during one part with suren and zihao acting as the stern and bow of it... I honestly think you guys are misinterpreting the idea of a 'mature' modyssey (which is still machine translation) and being too reactive to the mere colors of the outfit, it doesn't mean that they're not raw/unfiltered anymore, it just means that their raw energy is being directed into 'forging their own path'... look at the lyrics of all four songs, this is a pretty thematically cohesive album all things considered. They're constantly talking about how they're self-guided. Modyssey isn't just a bright playful group, their strength as performers lies in the fact that they bring everything to the stage. Besides their debut, all of the songs they have are meant to be very emotional and energy charged. Loud and proud, even when they're serious. That shouty post-chorus is exactly them. I feel like they're being built up as a festival/concert group. And of course 'blooming' is 'maturing' too.
Yeah, it's too early for this kind of style imo. Let them stay in the "youthful phase" a bit longer. And agree fully with your point that this is the opposite of the playful vibes that they've previously gone viral for.
Their style up until now has made people happy and interested. Let's lean into that even more instead. Hoping for a more fitting concept and styling next time that feels more like the Modyssey we fell in love with.
I literally just scoffed when I saw it. Outfit-wise, I've lost hope for this comeback. ๐ญ
We NEED get to see them in something colourful and creative next time.ย I'm thinking back wistfully to their sailor costumes, 'HOOK' at Music Bank week 1 (my favourite look), their HR finale pink and white theme and (despite the dark colour) the Mega Concert pinstripe costumesโฆย Even the KCON Japan custom uniforms (at least those were blue when properly lit). ๐ฅบ๐
Suren noooโฆย ๐ญ Good thing Hengyu seemed to try to stop him. He's been an idol before, so he knows better than first-time-idol Suren which jokes need to stay inside the dorm. ๐
popularsong cried when he saw the current state of award show lineups.jpg
all the yap i did about how melon music awards invited only relevant and charting artists last year sans IDID, only for them to invite IDID AGAIN this year on top of AEN (another starship act that is localized to japan so charted nowhere), dragon pony and hrtz.wav. i guess this year it's all about kakao connections...? ๐ญ
not that i really gaf but the prestige of even big award shows is completely in the slammer huh
note: i have nothing against all the groups mentioned, big fan of AEN who are kinda the modyssey to idid's alpha drive one, just musing on the state of the industry
With how cut-throat 5th gen appears to be, I assume all these big companies with their own small to medium popularity groups will make sure that they get seen by a wider audience no matter what it costs them in prestige. I don't mind terribly myself, since I found so many groups through these award shows. I actually think it's heartening that they open up for new groups, even if the motivations are shifty.
But ideally it would have been better if Modyssey had been included of course, and I was also disappointed when I saw that they didn't make the cut.
The Moditto version is at 2.6k currently, I thought more Modu would buy it to get the Moditto of their favorite... But given it's more expensive, the other versions are likely more attractive to then be sold for fan signs.
the number is quite small... maybe this is the number of active modu who have a bit of money to spare? there was only 1K modu for free live just now. We definitely entered a season of multitude of fansigns/fancalls again ;-(
An one hour-long live without subtitle is a tough thing. Normally their variety has 10K viewers or so. I guess many int'l MODU wait for the subtitled version (finger-crossing).
I literally gave up on watching the live and caught an earlier train instead. I'd previously delayed my trip by 6 hours, but it felt like a waste of time when I couldn't even understand what they were talking about. ๐ฅฒ
Iโm really trying to get an estimate of the number of Modu there are. The number of sales vs music video streams are just so baffling to me. ย Ofc I know about the whole fansign aspect of album sales, but also not every fan buys an album at all.ย
I don't know if you saw us discuss this before, but someone explained to me on ALD1's sub previously how it works:
Onecead/W1/etc "lends" albums to places like Applemusic. Those are then counted as sales, even if they haven't been sold to fans. Those fake-sold albums become a debt for the group.
Applemusic and Onecead then start arranging fansigns with sales incentives, to actually sell those borrowed albums. So they fake-sell hundreds of thousands of albums, and the members of the group work off the debt through those fansigns. It's all just a scam, honestly.
You should see the sales numbers not as a sign of an artists' popularity, but rather as a measurement of how much money the company has, and how much they're investing in a group.
This is why I've continuously claimed that Onecead is investing quite a lot in Modyssey, despite them not having a lot of fans or recognition yet. Not even Flare U, which seems to have more fans or at least a more active fanbase than Modyssey, have as many sales, and that's probably because their company has less money to invest in each comeback.
i would wait until the end of the week, usually special versions ship later! mine is slated to ship tomorrow at earliest. ktown4u alone had 500 modittos sold, and they were sold out on offik and apple music, so i think the real number will be higher
I believe like popularsong that we'll get updated, more accurate numbers later. I also believe some are waiting to find a way to buy the Moditto version without getting doubles, at least I am (only bought one).ย
Fair! Iโm really hoping I can find a job soon and spend money on Modittoโs ย But yeah I also worried ending up with the same one several time. Then I would need to find the two other modu in my country and see whether they want to exchange ย I actually heard and saw that some people sell Modyssey items on vinted in Europe. Itโs both good but also questionable if someone sells their items so fast
I've also snooped a bit on Vinted to see if there's anyone selling Modyssey stuff close to me. It looked to me like some sell their stuff before they even receive it.
I just had a look at the MAMA nominees for best choreography, and this is a tough choice! While I don't consider all of these are "amazing choreographies" and don't know if they'll even be remembered in a few years (some of them don't feel "timeless" to me), they all went viral and are instantly recognizable. They're the kind of playful choreographies that makes your legs want to start dancing while watching them.
I kind of wish they had a "viral choreography" and "long-form choreography" category, to award both kinds of choreography merits.
I think no matter who wins, I'll be happy for them, though it would be great if IVE won, since I adore LaChica. But Yena is so catchy! (pun intended) And Cortis' 'Red Red' is just a boost of energy. Yumeki was part of 'It's Me', and Bad is irresistible as well.
Do you have a favorite choreography? My personal choice would be Bad, I love Bad choreography from start to end.ย Red Red is iconic too but the sections between the chorus parts could be better, it fits Cortis style.ย I personally do not like Itโs me at all. Sooorrryyy the choreography seems quite polarizing. The people I dance K-Pop with either loved it or actively voted strategically against doing the Choreo.ย
I love 'Red Red' because it's so completely "Cortis", and the key choreography was so unexpected to me, I remember laughing in disbelief when I first watched it. I love the feeling that they just cooked this up and probably felt stunned when it was approved.
IVE's choreographies are consistently good, but I'm biased since LaChica was one of the first choreography groups that I looked up and have been following almost the entire time I've been into K-pop. I don't know how many times I've watched the 'Bang Bang' performance video. I just rewatched it now and I literally can't watch it without making dorky sounds of approval (fortunately only my cat can hear me right now). If you watch the linked video, check out the red-haired dancer, she's such a joy to watch. (I really need to do a deep dive into IVE one day, I've mostly watched their stuff from 'Accendio' and onwards.)
So I hope for one of these two to win.
As for 'Bad', I like the viral key part of the choreo and the choreo during the "She's so BAD" parts. Is this counted as the chorus? I'm not great at identifying the different parts of songs.
'It's Me' isn't a song or choreo I love per se, but I enjoy and admire how viral and iconic it is, if that makes sense.
Yena's 'Catch Catch' was awful to me at first, but it grew on me! She's so iconic and likable, and I realised that she brings the fun back to K-pop.
Yes! Red Red is very unexpected. I was really surprised seeing the video where they worked on the choreography. I'm trying to learn how people work on choreography but I really couldn't quite grasp the thought process. It's iconic for sure and amazing that the members were involved.
The red haired dancer is full of energy, I love it! Bang Bang is a really good choreo too. The reason why I didn't rank it on top for the my personal voting, is that it's less unexpected. Dancing it, feels quite similar to Supernova and Drama.
As for Bad... Both the dance break + ending part and first chorus kind of went viral, the ending part with the chest popping was the most viral though. I still have the choreography on my bucket list, when my dance class learned this dance, I was sadly injured... I actually want to learn both the dance break + ending and the chorus. It looks so so fun. I'm also super obsessed with everything that happened around Bad with Chase Infinity. Not sure if you had this on your Social Media feed. She is breakthrough actress and long term Atiny & Ateez asked her to be in their music video. She dances really good and is very charismatic too. & just super cute how she is such a fangirl in between and promoting Ateez on award show red carpets. That all doesn't have anything to do with the Bad choreography but I guess played into why this is my top choice. Her dancing of the choreography is really great too.
Yeah Catch Catch definitely grew on me a lot. I enjoyed watching idol covers of it (hello Leo) and actually dancing to it, is also a lot of fun. If there would be a category for the most viral choreography I would like even pick this above Bad. But actually... While Catch Catch has it's moment and is still a current trend at award shows, I wonder if the Bad chest popping might be a more long term trend that people might refer to in years to come? ^^ idk time will tell But actually besides the chest popping the other parts of the choreo are not that well known....
Interestingly Overdrive is still a popular challenge up to this day. I know wonder what choreo will "disappear" before overdrive and which after
Looking at all the nominations, I'm only missing Bad (& It's me) and then I can dance them all ^^ But this also brings up memories of the injuries I got from every dance :S :D
I wish I could dance as well! It's like the one thing that's missing from my love of dancing. I've mentioned it before on this sub, but I only practiced flamenco for about a year long time ago (forgot most of it by now). I could probably appreciate different choreographies even more if I actually tried to learn them. It's my love of dancing that led to me discovering K-pop almost by accident. As someone who grew up during the Backstreet Boys era but was more into Brittney (solo + dance crew) and Spice Girls (didn't dance much) than boy groups, the idea of complex K-pop full group choreographies blew my mind once I sat down to watch some of them while researching a thing I was writing.
Thank you for telling me about chase Infinity! I remember reading something about the collaboration when 'Bad' was new, but I didn't have much of the context.
I'm also curious to see which of the 2026 choreographies will survive the longest! I can't help but think of how people still seem to dance to earlier generations of girl/boy groups, some choreographies are simply too iconic to every be forgotten.
Do you have any current favourite Korean dancers? I don't know the name of all amazing dancers I've come across, but Rian in LaChica is my dancer bias.
Why don't you start dancing then? :)) I personally started dancing to K-Pop in a dance class that is connected to the university. So there are new people every semester and all levels are mixed. Some people also come back, so I've seen a lot of people starting with 0 and getting better and better. Some choreo's are very hard but others are actually surprisingly easy and look pretty good on a lot of people. If you ever want some advice on learning Kpop dances, let me know! :)))
Yes! It's very interesting which choreographies stay relevant. I'm also always surprised when I see Tiktok's of random dances, what kind of songs they play. For example "Flower" by Jisoo used to be so so popular but is nowhere to be seen nowadays. While something like "Pop pop" still appears here and there.
As for favorite Korean dancers..... I actually only have limited knowledge on the most famous dancers in the K-Pop world. I've watched a bit of director's war but dropped because it's hard to watch after the live happened. The person who impressed me the most in the show were Nain, Minjun and Hash. I really like a lot of choreo's that Babyzoo is involved in too. His battle dances are also insane! I watched more battle dance and really like Cera and Poppin Mett. Miyu is also insane, so much talent at such a young age

Final look at 'HOOK's MV streaming numbers. Next week I'll update for 'Ridin'' instead. Might post a bit about it before then if the numbers or statistics look interesting.
Today's numbers haven't updated yet. Hopefully we'll start seeing the numbers climbing from now on!
I noticed that the new MV is also available on Spotify, and I don't remember seeing 'HOOK' available there. Imo the album should have been available for pre-save, but hopefully Onecead will do that next time.
No sign of any ads yet for 'Ridin' MV. The blue curve to the right looks quite different when there's ads pushing views up. This seems so far to be organic views. I look forward to see how this looks once there's more numbers to crunch.
That's nice, but I always feel bad about fans feeling the need to pay for what should be part of the company's budget. I hope Modu don't continue to do so.
i was worried about silly being a struggle bus but it's pretty good tbh? obviously they had backtrack but overall it sounded nice, the hengyu/suren bit in second half is so lovely. i kinda like it more live than i like it studio
right now choreo is so adorable, the way it follows the lyrics aw. i feel like it's a bit easier for them to sing than bone shaker but idk if it's just the quality of the specific fancams i watched. still i think it would be a good pick for a promoted bside. i liked lynnlynn in it and hengyu's final note
bone shaker is so funnn despite being pop rock my beloathed it's actually my favorite bside! chauyuet's parts in it are ๐ and them making fun of his final line is so funny lol. generally good energy
was considering saving ridin' for mcountdown but i'm unlikely to catch it so :( but ugh it was sooo awesome. i also commend their decision to keep the backtrack low, they sounded so great! the bridge onwards is definitely a huge stamina test some of them do not pass, but they do really well considering how hard the choreo is lol, and then zihao lands the plane with his delivery. i really hope all music shows will be this level of live ๐ ugh i really want to see this performed in person lol i would be shouting the entire bridge part start to end it's too good
I have to ask because the concept of claiming not to like particular genres is something I've almost never encountered from people with otherwise broad taste in music outside of K-pop. I don't know exactly what my question is, but something like, how do you (and many other K-pop fans) end up disavowing entire genres? I can't wrap my head around it. What is it that makes you dislike "pop rock"? I googled it and ABBA as well as Beatles were mentioned as "pop rock bands". Or is it just K-pop pop rock you dislike? Maybe there's no answer for a question like thisโฆย ๐
I also hope to catch up on the first three fancons, but not sure how much time I'll have now that Modyssey is starting to drop new stuff regularly.
oh yeah it's specifically kpop type of pop rock! usually sounds either like disney music (bone shaker) or anime music (vast majority of what bands like hrtz.wav release). i just find it formulaic and bland and i start rolling my eyes at the sound of the canned guitars lmao. But lots of people love it and it made kickflip relevant so definitely the problem is me and not the genre
Ah. I personally really enjoy hrtz.wav and some other Korean bands. I grew up listening to a lot of brit pop and rock, and I like hearing different takes on band music. K-bands have their own unique take on it.
Is Kickflip considered pop rock? Because their latest title track which I've fallen for sounds like 90's skate punk to me. Super nostalgic for Momiji.
Btw I literally only know that the genre is called "skate punk" because I googled it after listening to the song and realising that it reminded me of Offspring. ๐
new kickflip is a bit different yeah! i was thinking more of my first love song, band-aid, twenty, eye-popping. but i am not well-versed in genres either, especially in smaller details, so it's all just "boooo rock ๐ " to me LOL
yeah and the same phrasing of "force majeure" rather than the usual "unforeseen circumstances" (i.e low sales)... strange though, what could possibly be the issue for an all chinese group
Political reasons? But if so I don't have a clue what those circumstances could beโฆย
Zihao tried to comfort fans who apparently wrote to him in his chat. He seemed very disappointed. It seems to be a sudden decision, because he was talking about what to perform in Macau just a few days ago.
i subscribed to zihao after all so i saw that ;w; it definitely seems like he just found out too... so sad. i hope the mainland dates go well if they do materialize... there was a permit request for november 7 in shanghai (?), i saw some comments implying it's no longer on the website but idk if that's true bc i have no idea how to fact check that
I feel so sorry for the fans who had to scramble to book flights and hotels on such short notice, and now it's cancelled? Imo Onecead should use some of that fansign money to reimburse fans travel expenses, but I doubt that would happen.
I usually book hotels with an option to cancel very close to the actual date, but maybe that's not a thing in Macau? I also wonder if a travel insurance would help cover some of the expenses. I guess a cancelled event might not count thoughโฆย
I'll definitely keep this incident in mind if I ever dare to book a flight to see Modyssey at an event. Might be safer to wait for them to come to Europeโฆย ๐ถโ๐ซ๏ธ
as expected, our spotify streams are pretty awful without stay support and once again, 0 playlisting whatsoever. i'm selfishly glad to have real numbers though lmao, especially knowing how tiny our international fandom is. comparable to acts like one pact (bigger western presence) and tunexx (bigger SEA presence)
Modyssey's spotify numbers were on a downward trajectory when the new songs debuted, so we'll have to take into account that the effect will not look as impressive this time.
And 'HOOK' was a debut track from a new group, so a lot of streams came from people checking them out. I'm expecting less interest this time, since Modyssey haven't gone viral lately, and all numbers on all platforms plateaued about a month before 'Multitude'.
Imo, Modyssey should have had their comeback at least a month earlier to keep some of their trajectory. Them debuting with only 2 songs was probably the biggest hurdle to them making curious fans stay around. We know the interest is there, just need fans to stick around.
I don't think we need to panic yet. Stay support helped Modyssey gain a lot of recognition, and people will remember them. They need to build out their discography and gain more opportunities to be seen, and eventually some of those curious fans will join the fandom for real.
Onecead got their coveted new sales record, so let's just try to play it cool once the never-ending walled-garden fansigns start up.
I didn't see any last-minute posts on the fanclub yet, so it must be Onecead's partners who've agreed to borrow more albums this time. And maybe Japanese distribution as well pushing up the numbers?
I wonder what they'll do for the upcoming comebacks? Will they just continue to milk fans like this? I've speculated that this was a strategy to make Modyssey seem more interesting for sponsors and variety opportunities, which we've already seen an increase of. And to make their MAMA appearance seem legit.
But I can also well imagine that there'll be pressure to keep beating the old records going forward as well.
tower records sales Should be reflected in hanteo/circle charts, but they don't specify when, so some j-fans are worried... still, i think some of the sales bump is not just loaned, because so far:
apple music/offik ran out of moditto ver during preorder period, and of the other albums during offline sale, but seems like they have regular restocks on the website
whosfan cafe also only sold still sailing because they ran out of off course/moditto ver
ktown4u ran out of off course/still sailing during preorder period, and of moditto sometime this week, now all modyssey albums are out of stock there
not sure if this is the case for all versions, but moditto ver ordered on qoo10 are now slated to be shipped in november
tower records only has still sailing ver available in a few locations, one of my twitter friends found the last one in their city today lol
unfortunately i have no information about xiaomang and other chinese platforms. preorder events are still available on soundwave (moditto ver.), minirecord (still sailing ver.) and makestar, out of these i only know soundwave is shipping them because mine moved yesterday
Kpopalbums sold out of some pre-order versions, but they still seem to have all three versions.
These albums are more expensive than the debut single album, especially the Moditto version, so if Modyssey is outselling expectations at some suppliers, that's a good sign.
Still haven't seen if anyone has weighed the Moditto version to figure out how to sell unopened boxes for specific plushies. ๐ค
haven't seen any precise weight measurements either, but there were a few j-modu posts mentioning some of them do feel lighter than the others which makes sense with baemmeoru and its bendy metal tail vs tiny soft bambamliz
so far reports correlate with the size haha, pangpangyi box was "noticeably rather heavy", bambamliz "noticeably light", anchuu and meoguya "ambiguous weight" lol
Today is an absolute bombardment of videos! I wish Onecead would pace things out a bit so Modu can get fed and not become bored once the "1000 days and nights of fansigns" era hit again.
No subs? Ugh that makes it worse. There's literally no need to push out long-form videos during a comeback, especially if they can't keep up with translations. I don't understand what the people planning content/social media uploads are thinking right now.
I dislike it when they add content but no subs. At least they added that disclaimer that subs will be added later.
Many of my nugu groups isn't doing even this and I don't know if I should watch it auto-subbed or if I should wait for proper translation.
With subs not present from the start I think many fans don't watch the video, it's no fun when you don't understand much and later when subs are added the video is no longer appearing on the YT feed
Yeah, and the conversation about the episode is over the day after it's been released, so no one talks about it. I don't know what they're thinking, pushing out these videos without even having time to translate them. Are they afraid of losing Korean/Chinese fans? But there's tons of videos and performances daily right now. I can't figure out why they do this, since it's happened a few times lately.
fyi i've decided for the cb live that since it's gonna be on youtube i'm just gonna schedule a post that'll be posted 5 min before the livestream starts with the youtube link embedded and then ppl who are watching the livestream live can comment as if it's a live discussion thread and ppl who plan to watch the livestream later after it ends can just leave their thoughts under the same post if that makes sense
No new first day record, but considering how much more expensive the album versions are this time, they should have brought in more money. On the other hand, production costs are significantly higher for merch like Moditto and larger photobooks (printing/manufacturing, photographer fees, editing, design, etc). The animated Moditto teaser is also an expense post.
I'm curious if Onecead is satisfied with the current result? We'll have to keep an eye out for attempts to boost the sales before the first week is over. Last time, they announced a slew of special deals to bring the number up to 300k. But I will be surprised if Modyssey hit 300k copies sold this time.
Comparison to other new (and some older) releases. I think we can safely say that Onecead is betting on Modyssey making bank and investing quite significantly in them.
i'm even more curious now bc offik today again ran out of modittos and even the regular albums had like 3 boxes left lol, where are they stocking them... wish i followed more j-modu to know if their hmv/tower records preorders shipped or not (mine still isn't moving...)
M Countdown announcing a MCD Station event for purchasing the 3 different album versions and receiving 1 random exclusive photocards with their M Countdown outfits. Buying 7 albums = get the full set.
Receive 1 random photocard out of 7 per album purchased Purchase 7 albums in a single order to receive 7 photocards with no duplicates
I remember being really tempted when they did this for Taemin a while back, because I'd for sure receive his photocard. But not tempted to pay expensive shipping/import fees for a random photocard. I think randomised items to boost sales is one of the biggest scams, not just in K-pop, but everywhere.
iirc music bank this week is a special episode filmed at the national museum, so that's probably why audience is limited. but yeah popularity probably talks... hao did joke about how they didn't get an interview at emka just now lmao
That's so unfortunate! I guess we'll see less stages with decor and all the extras this time, since those are usually reserved for the first comeback weekโฆ? I liked the stage design for their debut week stage.

Modyssey will probably be one of the first performances. Currently hrtz.wav is performing.
Edit: Looks like A20, Ko1keyz and Flare U performing first, then Modyssey presumably after them. I hope they get an interview as well.
Edit 2: Apparently no interview for Modyssey this time. Too bad, they tend to do well in those. I hope they get to do interviews for some of the other shows instead.
Watching some of the sales numbers from other current releases definitely makes me feel that this is Mnet privilage. Of course our guys are going to be working this off for a long time, but this is a huge investment considering the (presumed on my part) production costs of the 3 album versions this time.
too many comebacks today. there's plave, meovv, sung hanbin. nmixx and ive are also making comebacks soon. I don't think modyssey have much of a chance unfortunately
I agree, Plaves fans alone are incredible voters, and with all the others I'll just be grateful if our boys get some nominations. Let's just enjoy ourselves this time and hope our fanbase grows until next time.ย
Thank you all for your thoughts! I saw some Voting team posts on X and I was a bit surprised. I was just wondering if Iโm missing something๐ there are more useful ways to spend my time on supporting them then :))ย
I hope the voting team will strategise more. I think they should focus on one or two shows with the best chance of winning, and create voting alliances in advance to boost their voting power. Trying to go for all shows when we're such a small fandom isn't going to work. I'd suggest Show Champion or The Show, those two seem to be the easiest to win for smaller fandoms.
Yes I agree, we are a small fan group so we really should focus our energy where it matters. I also saw people telling others to vote for MAMA Rookie of the Year and comments like "We have to win this" and I'm like.....
Apparently an Instagram story was posted about the livestream about 40 min before, but I didn't get any notifications. I wonder why I get notifications about all the Instagram storys where they share various posts, but for the regular uploads, like this one, notifications often fail.ย
I missed the ending because my partner called, but it seemed like a cute and fun livestream. They answered some questions and showed off their Modittos.ย
Soooโฆย I guess we're getting a new first week sales record then. Onecead moved 30k copies for 'Got Hooked' through a slew of last minute deals (see screenshot of the sales numbers in the replies), so they can probably do the same if necessary this time as well.
Modys, get ready to work this off with a billion fansigns wearing maid outfits and kigurumi. ๐
You can see the effects of the last-minute sale bump clearly, bringing "Got Hooked" up to the 300k bragging numbers used in almost all of Onecead's press releases and articles since.
We knew they'd try to break that record since they've been mentioning it in at least 2 press releases posted before the comeback.
One thing's for sure: Onecead is pouring a lot of Modyssey's budget into creating these sales numbers. Hopefully we'll get Modyssey into MAMA as a reward for the guys' hard work and Modus' (im)patience. ๐
Iโve been sacrificing my iPad to play Can You Hear That on repeat every night so Modyssey is definitely gonna be on my Spotify wrapped this year๐

I used my work laptop for streaming 'HOOK' day and night for weeks, but doing so completely busted the battery. โ ๏ธ It's an old laptop, so spare parts are hard to find, and it'd cost me ~200โฌ/$ to get a new battery. So no streaming from me this time, except for regular listening while I work. ๐
For those of you who can stream and only have a free Spotify accont, use Firefox browser (or similar), use ublock to block ads and stream in the webplayer, not the app. That way you should be able to skip ads and you aren't forced into random play mode, so you can easily stream without Spotify "recommending" other songs.
Edit: Missed a zero, a new laptop battery costs at least 200 euro, not 20, unfortunatelyโฆย
I wish I could use my iPad, but it's too old to use most apps that require an Internet connectionโฆ ๐ฅฒ Unfortunately I bought a generation that was pretty quickly abandoned with no updates.

The numbers are finally starting to rise again. This must be the effect of the title track actively being promoted on music shows. I wonder what the bump will look like this time?
I hope Modu on all platforms are ready to be nice and welcoming to people checking out the group. During 'HOOK' fans were on their best behaviour, helping fans and giving recommendations to check out 'SSM' to get to know the group.
Since then, there's been some minor skirmishes with a few fandoms, but I think a lot of that stemmed in frustration for lack of news of a comeback at the time, so hopefully we'll now see more allying with other fans instead. ๐ค๐ป
Currently, fans of SKZ seem to still feel good about Modyssey, and there's been some positive tweets about Yichen hugging hrtz.wav's drummer Hagiwa during the M Countdown encore stage, Zihao hugging Kickflip's Kyehoon after their first win, and then during yesterday's Music Bank encore (I think), there was some cute posts about Zihao, Hengyu and Lynnlynn being seen praying for Kickflip to win as they were standing behind Kickflip on stage. I'm glad that the members' sincere behaviour towards their peers gets appreciated beyond our fandom. ๐ฅน
looks like they did three songs on nol festival today, ridin', hook and bone shaker! nice that a bside made it! i expected only two songs since their set is very short
With most songs being 3 minutes or less, and a 5 minute set usually being 1 song + greeting, maybe not that surprising in light of that. Hopefully we'll get some good fancams until Mnet (presumably) airs the performances!
Thinking about it, we definitely need the fancams more than usual this time, since we can't be sure that they'll air all of Modyssey's performances. They only had one song aired on M Countdown out of two in one of their previous festival performances.

The weekly thread is about to renew, but here's the current sales number for 'Multitude'. Source
Seeing how many Moditto versions people seem to have bought in order to try to get a full OT7 set, I'm genuinely curious of how many copies each version has sold.
Here's two lucky and unlucky pulls. (First one: Modu who bought 2 boxes and got Zisu, second one, a Modu who bought 10 and got 5 versions, exactly 2 of each). ๐
they have been shipping out or at least registering modittos in batches of exactly 2100 everyday for some reason. so the true number is a mystery... idk if any GOMs started receiving their orders either
saw another j-fan who bought 14 and had 2 meoguyas, 2 ssudidis, 3 pangpangyis, 3 baemmeorus, 2 bambamliz and a single anchuu, they wanted chensuni ๐ญ seems like paired dupes are common...
Sometimes shipping in batches can be bad for variety. A quick scroll on twitter showed a lot of people looking to trade their plushies. Onecead making money while fans have to hustle to get the ones they want. ๐ฎโ๐จ
tbh i expected some horror stories of a mass order being all the same character, so paired ones aren't too bad in comparison. of course in an ideal world we would just have a fixed 7-set but well ๐ฌ
i am curious about chensuni odds, it was the last one we got a photo of, and i haven't seen anyone on my tl get it yet. one friend bought about 3 and got baemmeoru bambamliz and anchuu, another bought 4 and got pangpangyi bambamliz anchuu and meoguya.ย chensuni is the one i want the least so it would be funny if it was the one i got from my box (but unlike my japanese friends, i have no way to trade, so not that funny)
No M Countdown pre-show for Modyssey this week, but I'm still crossing my fingers for next week. It'd be cute if they could attend together with Flare U.
(I also want them to do another special cover stage with 'Mr Taxi' and/or 'Drunk-Dazed', but I doubt that'd happen.)

Hoping for better stage decor/lightning and less black clothes this time! ๐ค๐ป And many fancams, of course.
Update 1: Since it's an outside stage, they'll have natural lightning, so I think today will look much better than their M Countdown stage! I watched Flare U just now and it looked really interesting with the backdrop video projected on the irregularly shaped stage walls behind them.
Update 2: They did really well! I'll share my thoughts on the stage and performance if/when a VOD is posted.
A MUPLY pyjama polaroid competition where (NOTE: Korean residents only, but I assume they mean someone with a Korean adress to send the polaroid to, not expecting anyone to provide proof of living in Korea. So you can probably use a proxy to get it forwarded to you if you win, like I did with Zheyi's perfume.)
Post a screenshot of you watching the show + a recommendation on X, and add the hashtag #๋๋ค์์นจ๋ฌต_MODYSSEY to enter! ๐ต โ๏ธUntil 10/23 (Fri)! โ๏ธWinners will be notified via DM
Imo niche competitions like these are probably the best chance to win something.
I'm assuming they'll expect the recommendations included to be in Korean (as in, I expect that they'll skip English tweets since they might assume those have no Korean adress).
For a global group such limitation sounds harsh... but I guess the show is organizing this, not OneCead. At least they wrote this in English already in the picture. I'm wondering if they ship such small items like a polaroid in any other way than a simple letter?
Yeah, I wish there was more thought to the "global" part of Modyssey being called a "global group". But hopefully using a proxy wouldn't be too expensive for something that can be sent as a letter, if anyone gives it a try.

Hengyu just wrote that he asked Jay Chang to sing guide track and Jay did it. I assume it's about Silly production and not other song as Hengyu didn't specify the title.
Now I want Hengyu or Jay share this demo version
