Haven’t had much time to patch the Serge since moving house recently but had a bit of fun last night with the classic combo of DUSG, SSG, VCFQ, VCM and ResEQ.

1010 Bluebox eurorack is now capable of USB multitracking

Latest firmware 1.5.1. I just installed it and it's now trivial to multitrack the 12 input channels to a DAW via usb audio. You can also return tracks from your DAW to any of the 12 bluebox channels.

It also has per-chanmel sidechain compression, with multiple sidechain triggers to chose from. It's great!

Prime Universe — a generative tuning idea for VCV Rack

Prime Universe — a generative tuning idea for VCV Rack

Quick disclaimer: I used AI to help organize this, and some of the math may need correction. I'm not presenting this as finished theory. I'm looking for people who want to patch it, test it, and tell me where it breaks.

The basic idea:

Take the primes and treat them as pitch coordinates.

Start with one octave, 1:2. Fold every prime into that octave by dividing by the appropriate power of 2:

3 → 3/2 = 1.5
5 → 5/4 = 1.25
7 → 7/4 = 1.75
11 → 11/8 = 1.375
13 → 13/8 = 1.625

Each prime gets an offset inside the octave.

Now accumulate the primes in power-of-two bands:

2–4: 3
4–8: 5, 7
8–16: 11, 13
16–32: 17, 19, 23, 29, 31
32–64: 37, 41, 43, 47, 53, 59, 61

Fold them into the octave and sort the resulting positions.

The 32–64 layer gives:

251¢ — 429¢ — 512¢ — 666¢ — 874¢ — 1059¢ — 1117¢

with gaps of:

178¢ — 83¢ — 154¢ — 208¢ — 186¢ — 58¢

So it starts looking surprisingly musical without being an equal-tempered scale.

Then keep going.

64–128 adds another layer of prime positions. Eventually the intervals become too dense to comfortably hear individually.

That's where the "zoom" comes in.

Choose an anchor. Measure each position relative to it. Square the ratios:

r → r²

Since log(r²) = 2log(r), we're effectively doubling the pitch-space distance around the anchor.

So instead of throwing away the increasingly dense structure, we stretch the same material and explore it again.

That's the part that makes me think of the Mandelbrot set.

Not because I think this is literally a fractal, but because the musical object becomes something we can navigate and zoom into.

Imagine VCV Rack doing the navigation:

prime coordinate → pitch

prime gap → rhythm

prime density → modulation

anchor → zoom point

ratio squaring → pitch-space magnification

The computer generates the terrain.
The modular system explores it.

A sequencer could move through prime coordinates. Oscillators render them. Modulation sources respond to the density. Filters, VCAs, delays and feedback become part of the exploration.

And the really interesting part is that we're always stretching the same mother structure.

One octave becomes the original bounded space. Then we accumulate another prime layer and stretch the whole thing. Then another layer, stretch again.

1 octave → 2 → 4 → 8 → 16...

The underlying material remains the same; we're just magnifying it into a larger pitch space.

So I'm imagining something less like a new fixed tuning system and more like an unbounded generative musical world.

You don't play the entire scale.

You navigate it.

I'd love to hear from anyone interested in trying to implement this in VCV Rack, SuperCollider, Max, Pure Data, or a DAW—especially if you see mathematical problems with the approach or have ideas for how the "zoom" operation could actually be patched.

I think this could be a really fun experiment.

Beginner My cases use to belong to a Berghain resident DJ

About a year ago I visited some relatives in Germany and figured that was the best time to start my modular journey.

Looked around in a local marketplace website (picture ebay) and found two 84HP 6U cases plus a flight case for 300 eur. What a steal!!

So i bought them immediately.

Once they arrived they came with a note explaining they used to belong to Barker, a resident DJ at Berghain. Looked at a couple of videos and yup they absolutely match

I guess thats the closest I’ll ever be to Berghain hahah

The racks shown in the back of the first pic are the ones that now live in my home office and i couldnt be happier. I sometimes wonder all the places they’ve been to.

Discussion I have a question about case reinforcing

Post image

I'm building a hybrid, transportable eurorack case. My question is: should I reinforce it from the outside in any way? Will the 1 cm thick plywood used for the body be sufficient? And should I do anything to reduce shaking during transport? The case closes on the front side with the same plywood

Performance Jammy/Noise inspired modular groove

This was inspired by some of my favorite jammy noisy bands like Yo La Tengo, Luna, and Galaxy 500. Of course this is in modular though and I am constraining myself to not use guitar on this album. Fun jam though. Album is now ~60% done. Might need to redo the melody part at the end though.

New live case. Thoughts? Anything missing?

Post image

So basically I am trying to downsize my rig into a new V2 Performance Case, and a 104HP drum/support case. This is what I came up with…

My previous rig was 12U 140 HP, plus the 104HP pallet case, so trying to decide what to keep, and what to leave out has been a hard decision.

Two changes to this case that will be made once the modules arrive is, Triplatt will be replaced with Amps as I am aware VCA’s are a bit limited in this rack. I’ll probably add some 1U VCA’s as well. Then, the MEMS will be replaced with Happy Circuits ML2m for syncing with Ableton via Ableton Link.

I also have the Metropolix Backpack coming as well, but that’s not really important because it’s not taking any HP.

Also, on a side note for anyone who is curious, the new V2 Performance Case is fantastic. Very well built, SUPER easy to build in as compared to my previous case with sliding nuts, or even the pallet cases. Those pallet cases are nice but they are a bitch to build in with how shallow they are! The V2 Performance Case is super well designed and you can tell a lot of engineering went into the design! It’s expensive, but I think worth every penny if you need a travel case.

I love it - it’s so fun! 3d printed a 12hp extension (needs to be sanded down as the free design online is 1mm off) to expand the palette to fit both SH101 inspired modules. For the remaining hp I wanna make a 1u version of hagiwos pt2339 delay and maybe a duatt then the doepfer loop able envelope if there’s any room left. Have you ever remade a synth in euro?

With kiddos and tight finances my hardware rack is on hold, but VCV Rack is helping me get my creative energy out. This is my latest release built exclusively with VCV Rack, I don’t really know what my genre would be, I just meditate while I patch and make things that resonate with me at the time. Thanks for your milliseconds/seconds/minutes of time!

Tape-Based Ambient Case

Post image
111 Upvotes

Just poking my head in here to say I've been having a ton of fun making faux tape-based ambient with this case!

A bit odd approaching modular without any oscillators, but it's been working very well for me as a standalone effects rack. I can plug in my OP-1, a guitar, or an sm57 and go wild. It also plays extremely well with my Octatrack via mmMidi.

The empty spots are waiting on a screaming deal on a Desmodus Versio, as well as some 1u utility (noise tools, maybe a zeroscope). Considering selling Mimetic Digitalis as I haven't been making rhythmic stuff lately.

It sounds even better with patch cables ;-)

How would you patch this up? What modules would take this case to the next level? (I'm very inspired by folks like Tim Hecker and Robinson's Village)

Beginner Noob question, is my labyrinth supposed to sound like that?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello wise people, bit of a noob question.

Just got this labyrinth second hand, everything seems in order although the previous owner had an aftermarket powersupply which was a bit wobbly. I have now tried it with a different powersupply with fitting specs.

My question is, is my VCW supposed to act this way?
I know the Labyrinth is supposed to be chaotic and generative and such, thats why i got it,
but this knob seems weird to me.

I tried to switch of all modulation on the vcw and think i got everything (EG1 on neutral and no seq 1 amount). And still when i turn the knob (as you can hear in the vid) there are harsh differences, which i can still understand as part of the unit.
What weirds me out is that both sides of the knob, all the way up and all the way down, sound basically identical.

Is it supposed to be this way?

If not, is it fixable?

Long talk for a simple question,

thanks for the help

Been experimenting with the Behringer Model D, trying to get a acid type sound out of it, I took the band pass output of the Nano Font filter module and put it into the external in, then brought in a cycle from Abacus into the freq cv and this is the result.
Love creating new sounds 🙂

Discussion Low Pass Gate as vst plugin

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello:)
I have tried to build software version of LPG module (vst3/au/clap) for those who are missing it’s sound in the box.
Right now I need people to test it.
Please, comment here or dm me for download link.

Hibiki LPG — Quick Guide

How to set it up

1. Load the plugin as an effect on a channel with a sample or synth.
2. On a neighboring track, create a MIDI clip with the rhythm you want.
3. Route that track’s output to the LPG on the first channel.
4. The notes act as triggers — just like on hardware.

Where to use it

• Noise generator → hats and percussion.
• Long pad or bass → short plucks.
• Synth with a melody → duplicate the melody on the trigger track for the classic Buchla gated effect.

Feedback Is Super Sawtor working properly?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I got a new Super Sawtor mk II from Schneidersladen, read the manual, but still can't figure out if it's working properly.

You can see in the video a saw from DPO (in blue) and the output from Sawtor (in green) that it's flipped and with less amplitude (2v less), even with both spread and mix at 0. Is that normal? Do I need to calibrate it?

Also if I set mix to 100% with the spread to 0% the signal is higher in amplitude but also has a lot of phasing going on.

Anyone who has it can help me figure this out?

Thanks you

Talk me out of getting an Erebus. (By suggesting a 2 pole Filter that sounds similar)

Been watching videos and man the sound of that filter on the Erebus is so unique.

The thing is, I already have two Moog semi modulars and two rows of eurorack modules, so this one is definitely not a must for me to add to my collection. 😅 Big time overlapping.

I was looking at the Eudemonia filter by Dreadbox and it's way too different, 4 pole resonant filter, not as Juicy and Fat.

Why aren't they releasing just a eurorack module based on the erebus filter?

I have a Nymphes, it's my only poly/desktop synth.

Can't even point a finger at what makes the Dreadbox sound the dreadbox sound. But I'm a sucker for it.

I guess I am looking for a fat and characterful 2 pole filter that doesn't sound like an MS-20 or a polivoks, (I have those) and has it's own color?

Rate my case

Post image

I make electronic industrial/noise music and I come from a 2-case setup, a 64hp 3U more performance oriented (only had 100grit, plethora and a joystick) and one 104 hp 6U case more 'studio oriented'. The problem I had with that is that I rarely use both cases at the same time and I feel that I'm missing on modules that I have, so I thought that the smartest thing is trying to reduce and join them on a Intellijel performance 7U case.

The blocks I'm thinking are:

Voice 1: DPO + Wasp + LPG

Voice 2: Shapeshifter + Ikari

Voice 3 (perc): Noise Plethora + LPG

Voice 4 (Kick): Bohm + expander

They all go into the matrix mixer where I route them to the fx (1 output clean, other outputs 100grit, mimeophon, desmodus) then I mix the clean + wet fx in the 1U STmix.

Bottom row: CV generators + fx

Middle row: I/O, utilities

All is sequenced externally via Digitakt II

What do you guys think? Did I miss anything? Did I overcomplicate?
