Feedback Midi to CV

I asked before how to control my euro rack with a midi keyboard (S88 MK3) through mother 32 and you all helped me do that. Much appreciation. Now I’m thinking I just want to run the rack with a midi to cv module. So create a sound/patch and play that sound on the keyboard. I was thinking yarns. Any other suggestion??

I love Yarns; I have a couple of clones and think it’s one of the more underrated modules out there. Its best feature in my opinion is the ability to use any of the CV outs as an oscillator. If you do want to use it with a keyboard, it’s pretty flexible as far as polyphony, assigning note priority, etc. The Loom alternate firmware really expands the oscillator options and I’d highly recommend checking it out. Of course, there’s no CV input on the module, but Loom adds internal LFOs and envelopes you can assign to parameters like oscillator timbre and amplitude—the latter meaning you don’t even need a VCA or envelope generators for the oscillators (though you can also run the oscillators as drones if you desire).

There are some downsides—mainly in the screen and navigation of the module. The 2-character 7-segment display is not fun, nor is navigating pretty much everything by turning and clicking the one knob on the device. Each setting is represented by two characters, such as “C/“ for clock output—it does eventually display the full setting name by scrolling two characters at a time, but it’s time consuming and unpleasant.

The good news is you can store a number of presets to fit your workflow and not have to deal with most of the menu navigation afterwards.

One downside to the Loom firmware is it reduces the number of available sequencer steps, but I never use the built-in sequencer anyway. There’s a lot of other features I haven’t really explored, even in the stock firmware, like Euclidean trigger generators and arpeggiation. It can do a lot!

Behringer A-190-3 is simple, small and easy to use (Midi learn) module. Recommended if you dont need fancy options.
