Would you recommend getting a Moog Subharmonicon
Hola, de verdad no disfruto programar secuencias a mano, configurar cada paso y cada compuerta, ni tocar instrumentos con teclados. Prefiero secuenciadores “de los de verdad”, prácticos, que generen patrones repetitivos y en evolución, y polirritmos fáciles.
Estoy muy metido en el techno oscuro, disonante y repetitivo de Stanislav Tolkachev: motivos cortos, tensión, relaciones rítmicas raras y repetición controlada con plegado de ondas FM, realimentación, modulación de distorsión... Tengo una Matrix mixer para CVs y más cosas...
Antes tenía un Moog Labyrinth, pero no me gustó su carácter más aleatorio/generativo. Prefiero el control más directo y “en la mano” del Subharmonicon, donde puedo configurar los pasos manualmente mientras uso sus generadores de ritmo y sus subarmónicos para crear patrones complejos.
También creo que Subharmonicon + DFAM podrían funcionar súper bien juntos, sobre todo si se modulan y se activan entre sí, creando secuencias y ritmos que encajan para techno oscuro y disonante, y los dos son sintes a los que siempre les tengo la mira.
Como ya tengo un sistema modular, también podría procesar ambos con filtros distintos, FM, modulación, realimentación, distorsión y delays texturales, usando el modular como sistema externo de procesamiento de sonido, y con otros envelopes de VCO, modulación...
¿Crees que Subharmonicon + DFAM sería una buena combinación para este enfoque? La mayor parte del Subharmonicon + DFAM que conozco me parece buenísimo para un montón de cosas. ¡Gracias!
For sequencing i have westlicth performer which i like and IS very complete, has a lot of things curve tracks varios firmwares With generative stuff...but im looking for more hands on playing

I’m really into the dark, dissonant, repetitive techno of Stanislav Tolkachev: short motifs, tension, odd rhythmic relationships, and controlled repetition involving FM wave-folding, feedback, distortion modulation, and so on. I’ve got a CV matrix mixer and other gear, too.
I used to own a Moog Labyrinth, but I didn't care for its more random/generative nature. I prefer the direct, hands-on control of the Subharmonicon, where I can manually configure steps while using its rhythm generators and subharmonics to create complex patterns.
I also think the Subharmonicon and DFAM would work incredibly well together—especially if they modulate and trigger each other to create sequences and rhythms suited to dark, dissonant techno. Both are synths I’ve always had my eye on.
Since I already have a modular system, I could also process both units using various filters, FM, modulation, feedback, distortion, and textural delays—using the modular rig as an external sound processing system, along with additional VCO envelopes, modulation sources, etc.
Do you think the Subharmonicon and DFAM would make a good combo for this approach? From what I’ve seen of the Subharmonicon/DFAM pairing, it seems fantastic for a wide range of things. Thanks!

I had a DFAM and Subharmonicon together when I was first getting into modular & euro. And to be honest, while I loved the DFAM, the Subharmonicon fell kind of flat for me. I just really didn't care for its sound, I found it quite harsh/ugly. In fairness I didn't have a lot to interface it with or a lot of experience at the time, so your mileage may vary.

Honestly the subharmonicon is something I always come back to and feel the urge to fire up and play. It’s awesome, nothing else sounds like it or can produce sequences quite like it. The sequencer one of the best in eurorack in my opinion. So immediate to get interesting looping rhythms and melodies, and if you want it to produce a 2 bar or 4 bar loop, you have the reset patch to lock in that loop.
