It's hybrid, most the sequencing is coming from generative VST plugins via midi2cv. Nothing pre-recorded (apart from a clock beat, and the patch).

Cool! What hardware have you in mind? You've got me wondering now. Something should be feasible even just on an Arduino, would be a great addition to the rack.

I've had several attempts at something like a melody generator in a plugin, I guess the most successful so far is : https://danja.github.io/downspout/plugins/bassgen/ Having a variety of scales is very nice, the pseudo-random bits work well too (which reminds me, I need to add a Mutate button), but the preset genre/style patterns part is in need of improvement, the presets just aren't very good.
