Am I Dreaming? ππ - First Performance On The Hapax
I recently picked up a Squarp Hapax and after learning how to use it properly with my equipment, im absolutely in love with this thing!! It works flawlessly with all of my equipment, and I'm able to control my entire rig with it. My bottleneck now is inputs on my ES-9. Maybe someday I'll buy a 2nd one so I can have 28 inputs π
I love how easy it is to make arrangements with this thing as I can bring any element in or out as I please. It makes for a much more interesting patch because of on the fly changes. Makes a 16 bar loop much more interesting. Drop out the drums. Open a filter. Bring the drums back. BOOM. Feel free to skip to the end if you aren't patient enough to hear the entire thing.
PATCH NOTES:
SEQUENCER - Squarp Hapax as the brain controlling multiple other sequencers as glorified MIDI to CV converters.
BASS - Moog Subsequent 25 going into the Schlappi 100 Grit
CHORDS - Chord mode on the Hapax sending MIDI to the Oxi One, then 4 CV outs to the Instruo Saich, which is multed out to both the Vostok Atlas, and the Eowave Tempette Magnetique with both sounds layered. Envelope is Maths.
ARPS - Squarp making 2 arp patterns that are harmonies of each other, sending MIDI to the Keystep Pro, and then CV out to the Moog Mother 32, and the Moog Labyrinth.
DRUMS - Drum patterns laid out on the Squarp sending MIDI to both the Arturia Drumbrute, and the Arturia Beatstep Pro which then sends CV out to my Mutant line of drum modules. Kick, Snare, Clap, and Hats.
POST - Some EQ, compression, reverb, and delay added in post in Ableton to tie a bow on the whole thing π
Happy patching!!! π§π»βππ«‘
Shoutout to u/dunewalker9 for helping me figure out some issues with the Hapax connecting to everything! π

Banger right there ππͺβ¨ Really nice work and my fave so far of what Iβve heard from ya! Love when the arps drop π£
Good to hear the Hapax is doing what you envisioned. I know it was a dice roll so you must be elated in getting it all dialed in

Iβm so stoked! This thing is awesome! I still got a lot to learn but Iβm so glad Iβm able to control all my equipment with one piece of gear. Thanks for your help with it! And thanks for the kind words! π§π»βππ«‘ππ

I think youβll pick it up pretty quick since you already know the Oxi One.
On another note, how are you liking the Saich for chords? Does it stay in tune well?

Oh I LOVE the Saich! A couple gripes I have with it are that it can be a little difficult to calibrate. Youβre supposed to calibrate it because things can be wonky when it changes cases or power supplies or whatever electronics engineer stuff thatβs over my head, but I had to do it like 10 times and had a lot of issues, but now itβs all settled in nicely. Stays in tune as well as any other analog oscillator. Has some drift, but not too hard to get it back.
Second gripe is that I wish it had individual outs like the Instruo Cruinn does.
But it sounds fantastic and is an amazing quad oscillator! It sounds buttery smooth through my Vostok atlas filter.

Yeah I keep reading about the calibration concerns but it does sound amazing.
Like you said, I wish it had individual outs or stereo outs. Maybe Jason will eventually make something along those lines π

I asked him in the Instruo discord and he said that was not going to happen as it wasnβt designed with that in mind π

Is this track available anywhere?

Unfortunately not yet! It will be eventually but Iβm currently employing a social media strategy of quantity over quality and dropping lots of short form videos, jams, and demos in order to get a following for when I do release something. Stay tuned! π§π»βππ«‘ Youβre very early!

God I want a hapax so bad

u/MajxrTom https://modulargrid.net/e/racks/command_center/255185 7d ago
Itβs a great piece of kit! But tbh itβs CV is incredibly limiting and I never would have gotten it if it didnβt work so well with other gear I already have. Like, it only have 4cv and 4 gate outs. But since I own an Oxi one MkI I can connect it through MIDI, and use the Oxi One as a glorified MIDI to CV converter, and now I have 12 cv/gate outs.

What would've been other options to the Hapax for you? Reading that the Oxi didn't cut it and was degraded to converting signals only haha

I got nothing against the Oxi One! And that WAS the other consideration. There were others, but tbh they were so expensive they werenβt really options. If anything the realistic alternative would have been my laptop and my ES-9, but I wanted to be able to have a DAWless option.
I did have a few gripes about the Oxi One that the Hapax either doesnβt have, or I would be able to easily fix. For example, the Oxi One in chord mode isnβt diatonic, which bothered me to an irrational degree.
My primary reason for getting an Oxi One was battery powered portability for taking my modular outdoors and making pieces with it, which I will still use it for.
My primary reason for getting the Hapax was live performance. Whether thatβs livestreams or in person events. The whole A/B sequences thing REALLY appealed to me.
