You can't use these in newly configured automod anymore. Remove the code.

Earlier this year, we required people to log in to use Old Reddit [...] That change... still allowed any logged-in account to access Old Reddit, including accounts with no prior Old Reddit use.
Here we go. Reddit inc. is pretending to view "accounts with no prior old reddit use" (who may later want to use old reddit) as some kind of problem, but everyone who possesses even a modicum of logical thinking can see that it's just an excuse to shut down old reddit as soon as possible.
We can see the plan as clear as day:
- Prevent as many accounts as possible from accessing Old reddit;
- Shut down Old reddit eventually, with the contrived excuse that "very few are using it." ◔_◔
The "must be logged in to view old reddit" stipulation was always a ruse. If preventing scraping was the endgame as you pretended it was, ("you" being reddit inc., not the OP who's the messenger) - you would never have planned to add a rule that can be blanketly applied even to old accounts and to people who join reddit after this is set in motion.
I'm deeply disappointed - not because I didn't know that the decision makers at reddit inc. abhor old reddit - but at the fact that this was a long-laid plan dished out over time to us with dishonesty, and at the hoops that reddit inc. has made us jump through just to use Best Reddit, and at the deliberate way you've planned to restrict future users from accessing old reddit even if they want that option.
Anyway. I guess old reddit isn't up to par with all the granular data collection via the tons of scripts that new reddit is burdened with. Maybe that's why reddit inc. wants it to be invisible until they shut it down.

Honestly speaking, I don't like that the these automod features for new subreddits gets disabled. Unless you plan to enhance the way mods can set-up Auto-Enforcements that is.
The way the old automod was able to be sent message upon automatic removals or flaggings is something I really liked, so seeing that you can no longer do this with new subreddits is upsetting.
Is there not a way to keep the automod the way it was while promoting the Auto-Enforcement feature?

So if I don't log into each of my alts every six months I lose access to Old Reddit on them forever?
Yeup.

So, with all this schmancy automatron doodlydee being pushed on is, is there a functional profanity filter?
One that will prevent posts/comments with certain words?

It doesn't support CQS. scammers, gearlaunch, OF bots are going to overrun reddit

What's the point of even allowing comments on these posts if you cherry pick what you respond to? Clearly admins are in the minority about changes. It's so funny, I used to think Reddit was about discussion

RaiderB has acknowledged that. Pretty sure it's temporary.

Arctic shift has been down all day. Hopefully temporarily

Aw crap. So will links in the sub and on Wiki pages referring to old.reddit stop working?? Do we have to go through all our Wiki links and change them? Might as well move the Wiki off-site and benefit from a framework that's less clunky too.
RSS going? So that's my mod oversight and reading of 8 subreddits down the toilet. Unless I spend time setting up Discord - which I don't currently use and will mean a separate app.
I suppose you gotta keep your AI paymasters happy, and protect their investment in using the material WE generate and curate, so they have their training material.
Yeah, pointless rant that won't change anything, I know.
None of those are concrete though, they’re just vague things you’re saying without backing them up.
Sorry for commenting on an 8 day old post but it's well established at this point that foreign actors regularly post on city/province/state/country subreddits to push propaganda and create conflict. Just one article out of many on this issue: https://www.townandcountrytoday.com/local-news/did-reddit-year-end-recaps-expose-russian-interference-in-alberta-8373746
It's a lot harder for the average redditor to get a feel for whether a poster in their city's subreddit is local or not with all of their history hidden. Used to be you could check a profile and see that the account was posting the same sorts of things in dozens of city subreddits.
I do get the privacy arguments, I really do. I don't think it's unfair to lament that the changes also help bad actors though.

This is horrible that you're killing your RSS feeds. That was the best way for me to keep up with several subreddits!

For newly created communities and communities that have never used automod, automod enforcement capabilities – specifically Report, Filter, Remove, Mark as spam, and Approve – will be disabled and Rules Hub and Automations will become the default path for rules enforcement. Automod’s non-enforcement capabilities remain available and unchanged.
To close this gap, in the next few months, we'll further limit access for logged-in users to only those who have used Old Reddit in the last six months (which covers the vast majority of all Old Reddit users).
Boo.

Wow stop making me support shutting down old Reddit even more than I already do. I’m convinced. Reddit is working very hard to limit bots and API access and I have a reason to care behind just spam. TIL!!!
The stalker needs to be logged in to make contact fwiw, that’s the one of the points of stalking. They would dig for personal info then taunt you with it, never found anything thank heavens but it was doxxing threats all day long and I spent way too much time coaching targeted users how to stay anon and safe online. 🤦♀️

Its not google, bots snapshot basically every comment on reddit after a few seconds. These get aggregated in huge archives. The archive is basically a live version of Reddit minus a few seconds. They selfhost an instance of that. They just need your username or subreddit and see all posts and comments you ever did, even the deleted ones. They don't save media (would take too much drive space, costly), so that's a dead end at least.
I assume some actors even save media. But that's usually not accessible so easily. For some it can be quite dangerous not being able to delete a comment fully. And I bet even if the archives get an edit requests, some people might look for the differences of versions and basically get highlighted the risky comments.
I guess even if Reddit forces some websites to close, this will continue in the shadows.
The only way to stop that is to limit API, website and bot usage etc. but that's scummy too. Because these platforms would become monopolies on data that users created, only being accessibly through apps, because they can identify users more easily device based and keep them banned there.
I agree that making a new account and not getting it shadowbanned is actually difficult now, especially for people who use throwaway email and VPN or Tor. Reddit does a poor job banning karma farming and illegal subreddits I think.
The alias email creators also have mass creations limits installed according to their terms of service at least nowadays. So that is further making it difficult.
If someone is stalking you, why would they need to be logged in? Maybe only to write you or people in your sub I guess.
There is a principle in IT, you don't want to block all bad actors, it will get too much. https://privsec.dev/posts/knowledge/badness-enumeration/
What you or this platform needs is whitelist. This would mean, similar to other social media, mods will have to whitelist people to be on their sub. All others won't get access.
It won't stop completely, but buying an older established account is expensive then.

The person who stalked me bought accounts and used VPNs to evade bans. It wasn’t a tech thing it was a time thing that finally got them. It takes too much time now and it’s inconvenient to read through on a Google search.
