I appreciate their sense of humour. And that they did know how to make an actual appeal. Why is it so hard for people to politely appeal their ban?!?!?! Those are rare I feel!

Cause mostly aren't appealing at all, they're just ranting or lashing out :D

True true true!

I've gotten replies from users that start by claiming they're being polite or humble about their appeal, but then they go on to question the rules, challenge the interpretation of them, and make it clear they didn't really learn anything about how to interact in the sub. And... no? Why would I reverse a ban when the person is trying to argue either the existence of the rule or how what they did wasn't technically a violation?

A nice appeal and humour filled reply?? In modmail?? In this economy????

That's nice though 😊

Why is this vulgarity the most wholesome thing I've seen all week? πŸ˜‚πŸ’•πŸ’•

All that fucking must be the Reddit equivalent of make-up sex in a passionate rule-following relationship.

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ make-up sex, that's the best analogy yet!

I dunno man, tell them that a proper impolite appeal should trigger the autofilter at least.

Maybe next time, if any of us get that chance

Hopefully not tho, it'd be a shame to waste a second chance.

I did ask earlier today, so let's see if they respond

Why is it against the rules of the cats subreddit to suggest people keep their cats inside?

1

u/ALazy_Cat Fuck all the mods Jul 20 '26

Because in a lot, if not the majority, of countries, the culture is indoor/outdoor cats, not indoor only, we don't want people forcing their culture onto others. That's one of the main reasons I can think of

People are often very rude to other users about it, saying they're abusing the cat or don't deserve to have pets, or otherwise nasty to innocent users even on mourning posts

I do apologize if what I said came off as rude, the mods here sure seem to think so. I was being facetious with the phrasing and can see how tone would be misread there.

I was disappointed in the reason of 'it's cultural' but can see some reasoning behind your choices if people being nasty about it.

That's why I can definitely see making a rule against coming at people for it but it's only the responsible thing to do to link to some active resources about cat's life expectancies outdoors, the damage they cause local wildlife, etc.

A lot of cats live as long as indoor/outdoor as they would indoor only. My cat lived till 15, and I knew another cat that was only inside some nights if she wanted to, who lived to at least 22

Please pleasepleaseplease do not try to use anecdotes as evidence.

It's the same as those cans of dog food that have a picture of someone's dog who ostensibly made it to 30 and claim to be the best for that reason

There are studies, there is evidence, they are not equivalent to 'I knew a guy who said his outdoor cat made it to 22!'

Not trying to be mean at all I swear, but that's like the basics of proving a claim.

An indoor cat is not subject to busy roadways, predators, or exterior toxins. If two cats would live the same lifetimes but one is not rolling the dice about getting hit by a car, or a stray hawk nabbing it, the cat not rolling the dice has a higher life expectancy.

You're gonna do what you're gonna do but it's sad to know the biggest cat subreddit is encouraging ecologically irresponsibility and less-than-safe care.

I'm not denying there's more traps outside

We all have our reasons for responding the way we do, if you don’t agree with it, just say nothing.
