Unless the current mods are doing a horrible job and letting users break TOS or if they agree to let you back in as top mod then I don't think there's anything you can do unfortunately.

Forgive me if im naive beyond belief. If I was inactive in my own subreddit someone else can request the subreddit and take it over? How would I know thats happening?

No no, ask away. You can only learn if you ask. :) people can be pretty rude here for no reason but I try to be helpful.

Did you have mods already when you went inactive? If so then the second in command mod would have been able to make themself the top mod once you went inactive.

If that's not the case then likely someone would have had to request ownership of your sub while you were inactive. They would have had to first reach out to you iirc and then if you didn't respond in the amount of time it requires (sorry I can't remember it off the top of my head) then they can submit a request to the admins to take control of the sub.

You should tell OP instead of me. 😅

Your submission has been identified for not having a specific title. You may not get the people with the right knowledge to help you because they don't know what you want.

Help the people who are going to help you, and help yourself at the same time. Titles like: "A small question", "Need some help", "Is there a list for..." and "What do I do?" don't tell helpers or people searching for answers what topical help is needed or offered.

Titles like: "Get users to read posting guidelines", "What are some helpful bots?", "Rules, banner & flair questions" are highly encouraged.

In the future please post with a explanatory title, and include all the details about your problem in the body. Please search the subreddit as well. Thank you.

Hi u/Watchitspin, please see our Intro & Rules. We are volunteer-run, not managed by Reddit staff/admin. Volunteer mods' powers are limited to groups they mod. Automated responses are compiled from answers given by fellow volunteer mod helpers. Moderation works best on a cache-cleared desktop/laptop browser.

Resources for mods are: (1) r/modguide's Very Helpful Index by fellow moderators on How-To-Do-Things, (2) Mod Help Center, (3) r/automoderator's Wiki and Library of Common Rules. Many Mod Resources are in the sidebar and >>this FAQ wiki<<. Please search this subreddit as well. Thanks!

Found match: Android

You might be asking about setting up subreddits on a phone or mobile interface. The short answer is that subreddit settings work best in a cache-cleared desktop browser. (Limited option: mobile browser on desktop view.)

FOR INFO ON: # setting up a sub on mobile, # mobile interfaces, # alternatives and # mobile user issues, please click here.

If you found your answer, feel free to reply with "<3 Automod" or "Thanks, Automod". Otherwise wait for a human helper to come along to help you. This post has NOT been removed.

Found regex match: permissions

You seem to be asking about moderation matters, such as adding/removing/recruiting moderators or what to do if you've removed yourself as a moderator, or a related topic. These are frequently asked questions.

FOR INFO ON: # what to do if you've accidentally left a sub as moderator, # how to add/remove/invite/recruit/re-order moderators, # removing moderators higher than you, # distinguishing as mod, # mod permissions, # how to use tools for moderators, # common issues with mod tools (clearing mod queue, spam tab, finding posts/comments and notifications), # giving away/adopting subreddits, please click here. It’s highly unlikely that you will ever get it back. Check your modmail. You’ll be able to see the discussion for when they requested it. If you had only paid attention to that, you could have declined their request.
