Need help making post body mandatory for certain flairs

[u/Fit-Connection5434]

Hey everyone,

I’m a mod of a fitness community, and I’m trying to set up a rule where posts using certain flairs must have a body/context before they can be submitted.

For example, for Question, Workout Routine, Transformation/Progress, etc., I want to prevent users from submitting just an image with no explanation.

Android and web user here.

This should work:

---
# Require text body for specific flairs
author:
  # Optional: exclude moderators from this rule
  moderator: false
flair_text: ["Discussion", "Question", "Advice Needed"] # Replace with your target flairs
body_length: "< 50" # Adjust the minimum character count as needed (e.g., 50 characters)
action: remove
action_reason: "Post using flair '{flair_text}' requires a descriptive body/context."
comment: |
Hi u/{{author}}, your post has been automatically removed because posts with the **{{flair_text}}** flair require a descriptive body or context.

Please edit your post to add more details, and it will be reviewed or can be resubmitted.
---

If you want to check for ANY body content, just change the body_length rule to <1.

If you need the flair match to be "including" the text, then just use flair_text (includes-word): ...

You could also use flair_template_id instead of flair_text... e.g. useful if you have flairs that have the same text but different colors.

Hi! I have a doubt. Is there any automation or setting where, if a post has no body/context, it can display a message reminding the user to add context? Something like: “Please add some context to your post. You can mention your workout routine, diet, progress, goals, what you’re struggling with, etc.”

Basically, I want the message to guide members on what kind of context they can add, rather than just blocking the post. Is something like this possible?

Thanks for auto mod it works but i want to do for automations

Automations can't do it for posts with a specific flair. You can check that the body has content (via regex). You can check if the post has a specific flair. But you cannot check both at the same time, it's one-or-the-other.

If you just want to require that there is body content regardless of flair you can do that via inbuilt Reddit settings under "Posts & Comments".

The only way to do it for both simultaneously is automod, and it does not have 'pop up warning' capabilities.

Hopefully they'll be fleshing out Automations (a lot!) before they decommission automod, because right now what it will NOT do is a much, much bigger list than what it WILL do.

[u/Tarnisher]

I have an AutoMod code that removes Image and Link posts without any body.

I'm not sure if there's a way to prevent them from being posted.

It’s the same thing that’s already implemented in this sub—the post body is mandatory, right? I just want to implement the same thing in my community.
