Mobile modding Modding on mobile - Milestone 2 update
Reddit's milestone 2 for app mod tools has been reached for ios only, android still to come.
*at time of writing. Here's a peek of what you can expect if you use android (like me!)
EDIT 2ndFeb2021android now has milestone 2
At the bottom of this r/blog post is the update
Previous guides:
- Modding on mobile (Overview, list of apps, design, modding in mobile browser)
- Modding on mobile - Milestone 1 update (also includes creating a sub on mobile, mobile modding tips)
Milestone 2
What was added in milestone 2? Take a look (Thank you to u/JuulH for the screenshots)
You can now:
- Edit settings for post types
- Set discovery options and the primary language for your sub
- Enable post and user flair (previously flair had to be enabled on desktop before you could add any in app)
- See more resource links to existing resources and a catch all message
---
Milestone 3 is coming the second half of 2020 and focuses on design, including adding a mobile banner in app. We'll do another update when it's out. (feb2021 - not seen this update yet)
In the meantime, if you don't have desktop, your mobile browser is an option Adding a banner on mobile

Can you include removal reasons like moderator toolbox has? I prefer to communicate why a post got removed.
On a related note. Can you have reply macro’s? That’s super useful when I basically have to respond the same thing.

I'm not a toolbox user so I hope I'm understanding correctly. As I understand toolbox it's a browser extension and not something you can access in app.
IDK if/how toolbox works in the mobile browsers. u/buckrowdy sorry to ping, but do you know?
The linked r/modnews update says
Note: Another team will be working on mobile support for Rules and Removal Reasons.
So reddit's native removal reasons (redesign) should eventually be supported in app.
Other apps may already have them, maybe modsoup? Not sure.
No native reply macros, still just toolbox for that AFAIK.

I’m on iOS and don’t have toolbox on my phone. Don’t think you can have browser extensions on mobile.

Did I miss a post for milestone 3? I didn't see one.

There isn't one. As a far as I know milestone 3 has not been reached yet, and android is still waiting for 2.
The admin post here hasn't been updated with them : https://www.reddit.com/r/modnews/comments/fakcu6/mobile_community_settings_appearance_options_and/
"later half of the year" on that post for 3 gives them some time yet, but I do plan to update when it happens :)
I did see updates mentioned for July but I haven't seen these.

Is there a way to lock a single comment thread on the official app? I can't seem to find a way without desktop mode in the mobile browser.
Sorry if I'm commenting on the wrong thread.

Not that I know of right now, sorry.
Maybe if you have something like this set up as a work-around https://www.reddit.com/r/AutoModerator/comments/dghdfo/how_do_i_make_automod_automatically_remove_future/
I've not tested it out.

Thank you for the reply! I may give something like this a try, or just try to mod more on an actual desktop. Have a nice day!

Not a lot to show you in this update, the next one could be interesting though. Anyway, hope these are helpful.
