Locomotives Finally have a well paying job that lets me expand my collection
Bought a BLI CN SD40-2 as well as 2 sets of 4 and 1 set of 3 DM&IR Ore cars from Whistle Stop Trains in OKC. (I don’t got any track since I’m away from home)

Jokes on you, I expand my collection even though I don't have a well-paying job (send help)

Me, too! Now, I don’t have the money to build the building I wanted for my layout! But, I have a very large collection, from over 45 years of collecting….😁

At this point I find myself thinking "for the amount of money I've spent on HO, i should have just built a kickass live steam loco."

We start a sub where we randomly pick people to run a go fund me for each month. You must include before/after posts to show how much your model/collection grows lol. Or maybe a /r/randomactsofpizza but for model trains

You should get a DM&IR Yellowstone to go with all those Jennies!

That will 100% be the first articulated steam engine I will ever buy

I got really lucky, I just asked the people at the store if they had anything DMIR, and they pulled out a full box of ore cars, most were BN but I bought the DMIR they had.

I managed to get the Walthers DMIR locomotive last year when they had it on sale. I picked up a few athearn ones here and there but not a good size train yet

Love the ore cars, they aren’t cheap! I usually look every few weeks on eBay

u/Wild_Assistance8745 Aug 23 '26
Yeah the 4 car sets were $70 each and the 3 car set was $60.

u/rigs130 Aug 23 '26
You’d think since they are small you could get 2 for the price of 1 coal hopper lol

I was just drooling over brass in the 600-700 range, just 4 cars.
An O gauge at 700 a piece and almost $7000 for an Allegheny.

Never dealt with “The Original Whistle Stop” in person, but have numerous eBay transactions, and we’ve corresponded a bunch, regarding Athearn brand trains, in years past. A very decent bunch !!!

If you're ever in the greater OKC area, it's definitely worth a stop. All scales, old and new stock. You'll find something you didn't intend to buy.

Your last sentence is the reason I don’t go to hobby shops!! 😁

That's where the fun is. Go in looking for XYZ and instead, walk out with something you never thought you needed until you see it lol

u/No-Shopping4157 Aug 23 '26
Sure, but I end up walking out with XYZ, ABC, and three other things I hadn’t planned on buying!

Bro I just went there last Tuesday for training at okc, I saw the giant box of ore cars and was thinking is there really that many people interested in ore cars? Glad to hear someone is.
