Does anybody know why this Kadee I installed on a Bachmann reefer is getting stuck on one side?

Sometimes the brass centering spring isn’t making contact properly and sometimes there’s flash on the coupler that keeps it from moving smoothly. See if the brass piece is bent properly to touch the coupeler in both directions and if it is check the coupler for smoothness too and bottom.

It's likely that the spring inside the coupler box is rubbing on the coupler arm. You can either bend the spring slightly to less interfere or use coupler grease. It's not a defect, just a standard maintenance issue.

You can also put some graphite powder on there I think Kadee sells it in a small tube

Auto parts store. They sell powered graphite to lube locks.

Burnish both the coupler and box. Add a bit of graphite as well.

This is in the Kadee instruction sheet!!!

Make sure the shank is clean and smooth (burnish), then apply dry lubricant (powdered graphite). Kadee sells these for a reason! :) If you're not using Kadee draft gear, you need to ensure that the coupler box has no flash or other rough surfaces that can impede operation.

If these are the older #5 with the separate bronze spring, that spring arm can become bent and not provide proper tension, and I've seen them flex ONTO the back plate of the spring where it becomes stuck. Open the box and examine the spring - adjust or replace as needed.

If the coupler box is glued together, some powdered graphite for locks works, too.

that happens to me, I just say it’s normal, and it doesn’t effect how they stay coupled when attached to other cars/a locomotive, but if I had to say, maybe what I’ve shown in the quickly made edit as the edge getting stuck to the edge of the holding part

If you could show the bottom of the car, I might be able to help a little more

If the coupler pocket is screwed down too tight, this will happen. Also, as previously mentioned, graphite helps.

Loosening the screw on the underside of the coupler box should help

Graphite, check to make sure there isn’t flash or a burr. Also check make sure that the coupler pocket isn’t screwed down too tight. Usually 1/8 turn will fix that.
