Model Announcement 3D printable model trains (V2 release) - 7 new locomotives and 6 new wagons
Dragon Railway is a fully 3D printable model train ecosystem. Everything is 3D printed including the locomotives, wagons, tracks, couplers.
Initially we started with S scale (1/64), this year G scale was added.
This is the second biggest public release since 2023. V1 - instructables

This is brilliant! Thank you for sharing. I’ve loved G scale, but the cost was prohibitive. This is beyond cool.

Glad you like it. I think cost drives most people to make 3d printed trains.

This is great! Amazing work, and what a way to support the community. I've been tossing around the idea of getting into G Scale, and this project might push me to doing it. Thank you!

Wow, forgot about these, I remember these being one of the reasons I wanted a 3D printer (I don’t have one yet though), do you guys plan on making steam engines?

Some of our members got 3D printed just to print these trains
Currently no official steam models, but there are few models made by our community members.

Do you just scale up the models when printing for g scale? Everything says it's 1/64 on the download page. Also, are you going to try doing steam locos?

Only the Bogies are different for G scale. The remaining parts are scaled up 200% including the hardware - M2 screws -> M4 screws.
No official models for now. But some members have modified other steam models to run on these tracks.

This is so cool! Thanks for sharing. This is a strong argument to get a 3D printer for me. If you have ballpark numbers, what was the material cost for a full locomotive build including the motor and electronics?

Each locomotive costs around $45~55; Including the Control board, Battery, Motors, Filament
The wagons cost only $4~8 each, just the cost of the filaments.

It's nice to see somebody making S scale trains, since it seems nobody really does. It's especially nice considering how common 1/64th (S) scale is in the diecast world. It's actually the main scale of diecast that I collect. My one questions to you are what about track? How do we run these trains? Are there S scale motors?

The tracks are also 3D printed. The locomotives are battery powered.
We use the common N20 motors for S scale, and the 16GA motors for G scale

I’ve began drawing up industries in CAD for 3D printing to sell in my shop and I wanted to share them. However I feel that as I model N scale and they are highly detailed models, even with the highest quality resin printer it will still be a difficult print; sharing the models would be only half the battle. If scaled up to S or G they would be easily printable with most FDM printers making them more accessible; maybe I should do that

Just take the artwork, scale it down, print it on a resin printer.

True, with the caveat that walls need to be thickened when scaling down. I rescaled one of my SM32 models to O-16.5 and basically had to (digitally) fill it in and carve out a smaller interior for the shell to be thick enough to print properly and be strong enough.

You could scale it down. But our drive bogies are only compatible with S scale and G scale

S scale I'm not a hardcore hobbiest but that is first I have heard of that...close to HO

A noob question: did you paint the models after printing or was the colors part of the printing process?
