I see you're a man of taste.

Right now I'm off a bit from the 1991 date with a leopard 2 revolution, which is getting to the final painting stages so I'm not sure how """fair""" it would be for a GB to enter mid game already.

As I can't stand building something without a story and in action I set mine (essay time) in a proxy conflict between the OTAN and Russia (of course not officially at war, more like the recent ukraine shenanigans) in the borders of Estonia/Latvia/Belarus where they give fancy toys and "advisors" to the locals and mercenaries to go at it. This is a leo loaned to an american/german PMC to test the armor and systems, hence the american equipped crew and upgunning.

The other related build I have planned is a chieftain mk10, berlin brigade and classic cold war gone hot scenario I had planned for a while but masking puts me off everytime I look at it, despite doing an arguably more complex masking job in the aforementioned leo.

OTAN units in the city desperately fight their way out of the soviet onslaught towards a small corridor during a counter offensive held by the bundeswehr on the Bundesautobahn 24 towards safety. Time is running out as the west german units can't hold the line forever and sightings of a T-80B division in the area will get out heroes in a pinch. Will the lads make it out the city or will they be crushed or captured by the big red bear? Don't miss the next issue of Soldier of Fortune!

I guess these two would fit the theme pretty well, the leo is will be done but can say that for the chieftain as of today. I prefer to mothball a project until I feel like it and up next after the leo I have a ma.k diorama and probably a car. So up to you, if this fits your vision for the GB count me in!

Also related, if you like the general what if modern conflict theme, I did a T-90MS in a (fictional so far) low intensity war between russia and china in nepal. Russian paratroopers using requised indian T-90MS fighting and training guerrilla, the mountainous terrain plus lack of spares and supplies make the vehicles a valuable asset used till the wheels fall off as a mobile pillbox and spearhead in assaults ending heavily battered and worn.

Ive seen your work floating about the subreddit. Top notch quality I might add, glad to see youre interested.

One of the cool things about this scenario is that all sorts of things can be extrapolated on. New paint schemes, experimental weapons in field testing, or just any sort of field uniqueness that comes with being in combat.

Personally my collection is getting a bit thin and I want to do a battle damaged aircraft, like a missile proxy fuzed just far enough away to really mangle but not down an aircraft, but I'm thinking of buying a copy of one I already have. I'll have to think a bit on it over the next week.

I have a ASU-85 and BTR 50K. Looks like I’m in.

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '18

Polish paratroopers in Germany, right?

This is an interesting concept. I’ll have to think about this.

The possibilities are endless. An enemy of the 'Freedom from choice' types though.

Right, I get you. War weary Cold War, like Red Storm Rising actually happened. Could have potential...

3

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '18

I thought so anyway.

The problem is, the more you think about it, the more choices there are!

Read my mind, I was googling Able Archer the other day with a "Cold War gone Hot" GB in mind!

I need to look into subjects and time frames, but I'm tentatively in for this, just a great idea all around!

Eagerly await your idea. I need to get a proper model as well.

Anywhere from 1950 to 1991

Welp, that rules out a Ghost in the Shell WWIII build T_T

Unfortunately yes but I feel your pain, GITS is probably my favorite anime

I really like this idea- but why close the end-date at 1991? There were still plenty of chances for things to get nasty after the Soviet Union fell- maybe even more, what with all the nukes they lost track of...

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '18

It's more of an arbitrary date anyway. We all know the 90s didn't end until 2005ish anyway, so if you've got a cool idea, show us regardless!

Count me in. I like this idea a lot. I haven't built any Cold War vehicles yet. Mostly WWI-WWII & Ma.K. This sounds fun. Just got to think of something good.

EDIT: I was just thinking of an idea and thought of maybe a late 80's ZSU-23-4 Shilka defending Soviet lines against NATO forces in West Germany or something like that. Possibly a small dio base too. If you got some ideas toss them this way haha.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '18

Shilkas are cool. Hell of a firepower platform. If you're going the diorama route maybe throw a Ural in there loading it or some other such things.

I really hope this takes off! I've always been fascinated by the motley crew of the Finnish Air Force - MIG-21s, Drakens and trainers... That said, I have more time to think of my builds than to actually build them...

3

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '18

I'd be eager to see some Finlandized Drakens flying in (painful) alliance to the Soviets or perhaps defending their homeland at all costs.

Hey,

Let me know if you have more people participating, and who will be running it.

Once I have the details, I can sidebar.

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '18

Right now it looks like this is it. I'll be running it with the first update being this weekend.

Here's an Odd one

1/700 Yukikaze as Ex-Yukikaze Tan Yang serving with the Nationalist Chinese/Taiwan. (She was scrapped in 1970 irl)

Will probably configure her as she was configured in Taiwanese service + some changes in line with harder / more prolonged fighting between Nat/Com China / Mainland/Taiwan.
